 Shocked

(sorry for repetition)

No reason for it though, most are saying that its probably sock puppet accounts.

Now what will Russia say? I wonder...
Nevertheless, it's a great thing, and 5000 places to buy isn't a small deal.

No but the Ukraine average annual salary is about $5000, so don't expect huge things

And the average Chinese salary was $2,100 in 2012. Average salary is such a vague measure to use to come to a conclusion that a new market won't have a net positive effect.

Get some facts right - the average Chinese Salary at the start of 2012 was CNY 42,452 - at the time USD 6,738
source
http://www.tradingeconomics.com/china/wages

and the population of the Ukraine is 1/30th that of China, 45million vs 1.35bn.

Fair enough I can't remember my source for the figure I had, regardless it doesn't tell you anything. If 80% of the Ukranian population bought bitcoins with 10% of their wages and 0.005% of Chinas polpulation bought coins with 1% what did what do you think would be the net outcome? My point about average wages being a completely vague figure to base any analysis on still stands.

I wonder if anyone bet on that last night. Would've been an amazing experience. Cheesy

I bet Germany to win by more than 4 goals so that was a nice little earner Smiley

Im surprised that more people didn't see it coming, don't get me wrong I wasn't sure they were going to win by such a margin but I was almost certain that Brazil were going to lose. Still don't think Argentina have enough to make the Final so I think we could be seeing a European team taking it on South American soil.

Anyway, gotta say I'm still just waiting for blastoff. Maybe the whole ISIS thing is the catalyst where terrorist organizations across the world start to BUY BUY BUY as to not be left behind by the other terrorist organizations. I'm curious whether the terrorist organizations NSA, CIA and MI5 will buy along with the rest of them Wink

One and the same aren't they, perhaps it will be the governments of the world who will do the fiat to BTC transaction as isis etc would probably find it harder to get significant funds to exchanges. In fact, maybe thats why the French stole the customer funds from the exchange that got shut down yesterday... Wink

A new business venture such as the one he alludes to needs liquidity on both sides of the book. He has plenty of dollars to provide $ liquidity, all he needed was some BTC

I remember someone saying something that is worthwhile to note :

What if you paid your dentist in bitcoin the first time you had an appointment , the next time you go he would know your balance and charge accordingly

Eh?

You have all your BTC in one address and thats the one you carry around with you?

That is not what we are saying at all, what we are saying is that it's possible to map the bitcoin blockchain and build up very reasonable assumptions about someone's wealth and their movements.

If I receive a payment to a fresh address and then spend that balance on items (including my dentist), what connects that address to any of my other addresses? Thats obfuscation. Yeah if I use the same address to keep receiving payments and then also keep topping that up with my main address it is traceable fairly easily, but even so, theres no proof that I own any of the addresses until the POS when my real name is connected to a single address. GMaxwell explained some of this very well when the whole gox fiasco was in full flow, people were jumping to all sorts of conclusions based on one hop away from certain addresses etc and he was saying that you can't just make presumptions like that, another example is the people who thought they were chasing the sheep market place thief through the blockchain.

I'm not saying its not an issue at all but I'd be more worried about the IP revealing stuff than my dentist running advanced blockchain forensics.  I'd imagine by the time the everyday Joe can run forensics like that there will be easy solutions to the problem.

That is actually very true. since bitcoin is so transparent, everyone will see your balance and I'm sure as hell, that most bit coin users don't have multiple wallets to try and hide their true balance...for the regular bit coin user, they most likely keep their funds in one wallet...which would increase the likelihood of things happening similar to the post I quoted.

Even minuscule things like that is why privacy for crypto coins is needed, anyone who can't see that is beyond ignorant and can't be helped, just like those people who were skeptical of bit coin in 2010 and 2011

And one wallet is made up of many addresses...

Is very easy to obfuscate yourself, your dentist isn't going to go into deep blockchain forensics to attempt to work out which addresses are yours.

I came across this site that shows in real time who is buying btc with fiat, and the amount going into china really surprised me.
http://fiatleak.com/

You do realise that for someone to buy someone has to sell, all that really shows you is volume...

If someone in China is buying lots of Bitcoins someone else is selling lots.

Hi,

Put me on the list to be sent the invite codes, I play anyway and would happily join a few more leagues.

Really like the weekly payment Idea as it gives people a chance to play who don't necessarily keep on top of their teams all season.

My XMR wallet is create by previous version, and I can't open it with latest version
Can somebody help me?
I was backup the keys, address and other file

Hi,

Could you be a little clearer. What do you mean you cant open it? Do you get any error messages? What version are you referring to, a different bit version or a different release version?

So much unnecessary pool spam, If your pool is in the OP why do you need to keep posting it. Let people make their own minds up and leave the thread for actually discussing the coin.
1094  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 08, 2014, 10:48:23 AM
Maybe newbish logic here, but to me it seems that bulls are not selling because they expect a price rise, so it drives the bubble, while bears expect the price go south, so they sell, drowning the potential bubble.

Why are you saying bears are needed to get the bubble inflate?

Well everyone can't be a bull otherwise we'd be at a million already Wink

there will be no bubble this summer. in september (or whenever etf gets approved) a steady bull run will start. it may lead into another bubble in q4. july and august will stay boring...

Pretty decisive statement, a couple of months is an age in Bitcoin land. Im actually thinking the murmurs of the next bull run are being heard and in retrospect we could be looking back with hindsight and saying the general 2014 bubble started at the end of May.
1095  Other / Off-topic / Re: FIFA World Cup 2014!!! on: July 08, 2014, 09:33:17 AM
Brasil without Neymar aren't anything special. Brasil have a few key players who carry the rest of the team.

Agree, I think its a real shame as all teams deserve to have their best players playing but shit happens of course. Im very interested to see how Brazil will play this one without their star man. Its surprising the effect certain players have on the team just by being there and Neymar is one of those players.

1097  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 08, 2014, 09:11:42 AM
Guys and girls - this situation is going to resolve itself just like the situation in the 400s. We bounced around high to low and mid to low 400s for many weeks. Finally, there just were no more sellers. None. And once that happened, the bulls ran wild.

Well, that is what we are seeing again. No buying, but less and less selling. So unless sellers start selling more soon, then the selling will eventually slow to a crawl again. At that time, our only way forward will be up.

Now this could take another week or so or more - who knows - its all just "speculation" that we love.

But, me, I'm watching the sellers, not the buyers, for clues on how low this goes and where the local bottom really is.

Yeah I think there are just too many bulls expecting a bubble, can't go up when everyone is a bull unless there is a huge influx of new people getting into bitcoin. That's going to happen eventually but not as fast as people are thinking. Some impatient buyers have already sold and I see the number of bears increase again which is positive because we need them as fuel for the price to go up. Cheesy I don't expect a bubble any time soon but I do see 800-850 in the cards.

Do you really think everyone is bullish? Still feels like bear central around here compared to in a real bull market, when every thread is rockets and trains and people tell you they've maxed out credit cards and re mortgaged their house then I'd agree everyone is bullish. Im still not super bullish (leveraged long) but I've been all in (non leveraged) since around $450 my finger is far away from the sell button and like windjc Im waiting for the sellers to dry up again and my finger will be firmly pressing that long button (absent bad "news").
1098  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: July 08, 2014, 09:00:50 AM
Any number of events may serve as a catalyst to drive people into a privacy-protected currency.  I have no convictions as to which will occur in what order, but I do think that the number of them is large so several will occur in time, and motivated investors will be highly motivated when their personal trigger gets pulled.  XMR > LTC seems like a no-brainer.  (Hopefully that will involve XMR appreciation as well as LTC depreciation.)

I rather hope that no influx of neophytes occurs before the db is out, so that 32 bit works, and an easily used gui with qr code ex/im/xn support is available.

I will be flying discount fares, drinking immature liquor, foregoing car service, deferring donations, as long as XMR is this cheap, accumulating.

Exponentially declining emission, people.  Get them while you can.

Its posts like these that make me sure I'm doing the correct thing by continuing to accumulate, genuine fundamental reasons why a coin is a good one to have. Instead of the normal Marketcap comparisons which justify a rise in price as inevitable just because the current cap is lower than competitors  or "It hasn't been pumped yet" conversations as well.

The whole reasoning behind the emission curve being what it is was to provide everyone with the chance they are getting now, to get in at a decent price that is relatively stable before the reward decreases and the HR/Difficulty increases as well. People always moan about instamine/ninjamine and then when they are presented with a high inflationary coin that tackles those points in the early days of its inception everyone is too afraid to accumulate, you cant win. Well that is unless you understand this and are one of the smarter people buying them up. Increasing network and decreasing block reward, the writing is one the wall.

But the signs all point up from here.   And there's lots of them...

Do tell.

Seriously, do tell.

Perhaps you could tell us the signs that are pointing down from here then as your so sure they aren't pointing up ??
1100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [CryptoNote] A complete forking guide to create your own CryptoNote currency on: July 07, 2014, 04:05:09 PM

I would say that this is the essence of CryptoNote's philosophy: to create a level playing field where any coin is given the potential to become a leader - an environment where anyone will be able to compete for the lead position.

The playing field is level, the code is all open source. Anyone who has the skills can currently fork a CN coin as has been done. The issue is with 100's on uninnovative implementations which is possible with "noob forking guides" and devs with no skill at all. Im sorry but if you think that 10's or 100's of slightly tweaked reference implementations is good for anyone then you mistaken. Yes competition is good and anybody who has the ideas and the skills to implement them will be able to do so already without the cryptonote team babying people to do it. This is why the motive question has been thrown out there and most of what drawinginthesun aludes to makes perfect sense.

Perhaps if you countered the actual arguments you might have more listeners.

Drawinginthesun gives many reasons why lots of the same coin isn't good, arguments such as this "Only coins that offer a massive advantage over the other market participants should be able to take value from a market leader" and "However if Monero were to fall due to clones that offer very small incremental changes to the code, then I would be a fool to invest my time, money and energy into that competitor because I know the precedent has been set, another coin will be along shortly to ruin that coin, with small incremental changes." need more response than they're just trying to create a level playing field.
