1401  Economy / Economics / Re: Federal Reserve launches FedNow instant payment service on: July 31, 2023, 02:07:11 PM
Well, even if this is centralized and government controlled... I still think misinformed people will follow like sheep and use this service.

Why do you think those are stupid misinformed sheep?
Are people who use banking payments all over Europe through SEPA imbecile sheep?
Do you actually know what this service is about or you're just shitting on it out of habit?

Your arguments are not baseless because they explain the current condition of the global financial system. According to research, only 4.2% of the population of the world uses cryptocurrencies.

4.2% of the population means 354 million!
With 600k over BTC and 1 million over ETH, it will take 221 days for each of those "users" to make a tx.
So one tx every 7 months would qualify somebody as a user if we think nobody is making two tx in this interval!
4.2% usage is pure bullcrap, maybe 0.42%

With this new service by the Federal Reserve,  the major difference or defining feature should come in how much fees each transaction will attract , but don't see this getting any cheaper than what cryptocurrencies offer today!!

$0.045 vs $0.41 and it doesn't matter how many inputs you have? What's cheaper?

May I ask what the two Legendary members above are replying to, exactly?  I don't understand whatever it is OP is trying to get across, and if I were just a tad more motivated I'd check that post for plagiarism (Not accusing you, OP.  Just my suspicious mind being suspicious).

I kind of doubt that crap is plagiarism, if it is then...oh my god!

That story OP unspooled has a lot of....oddities in it.  So I'd also like to ask him what his point is--and that's if he's even monitoring this thread, which I've got my doubts about.

It's some crappy story probably made out of bits of proverbs and jokes, so really no point of it.

I advise other members who want to read something that really is worth reading about money and trying to amass fortunes while not spending a dime, true personifications of avarice to just go for either
The Miser, in french the title is more at point, L'avare written by Molière
Gobseck by Honoré de Balzac

This...well, it's just low effort low quality... everything goes!
1403  Other / Meta / Re: An Error Has Occurred! Error #1713576446 on: July 31, 2023, 10:19:45 AM
AFAIK, It is an internal error, so the number provided does not reflect the nature of the error, but rather the location of the error. Has your session time expired, meaning that you did not click on the link for a long time? Was the problem resolved after several refreshes of the link?

Since no one else reported this error, it is related to your browser, so deleting cookies and checking the session time will solve the problem.

I was way too lazy in describing the error

Since I was on a tablet I found it far easier to just open all tabs to send merit then type 1 and send, after 7 or 8 merits sent this error appeared, I closed it down and continued to the next and all went ok. Of course, I opened the page that got the error again and it all went smoothly.
Now that I look at the time, I am quite surprised I was doing it that fast on a 10" touchscreen with 3 seconds between actions, I was quite sure I had way more than 5 seconds between taps so that's probably the cause.

I've seen "An Error Has Occurred" many times while Meriting many posts. I don't remember any error number, but just click back, and it works again.

I kind of guessed people who merit far more often than me would have encountered it a few times but I was curious why I never saw the issue discussed, maybe I just missed the topic.

--

Anyhow, it has something to do with merits and it just fixes itself, I don't think I've found a vulnerability to exploit the merit system  Roll Eyes so unless proven wrong I guess I'll lock the topic in 12 hours or so.

1) There is no dubay
2) There are no diryhams
3) There might be some dirty hams in your fridge
4) There is no such thing as Dubay dirhams
5) The United Arab Emirates dirham has been pegged to the US dollar for 3 decades

In a note to clients earlier this month, Fundstrat's head of digital asset strategy, Sean Farrell, explained that a multiplier effect in the range of 4.0x to 5.0x is reasonable to assume for the bitcoin network.
"This means that $1 of demand can result in a $4 to $5 increase in market cap," Farrell said.

Market research firm Fsinsight, a Fundstrat company has predicted a bull run for Bitcoin and Ethereum in 2022. Fsinsight predicts that Bitcoin will spike up to $200,000 and Ethereum will skyrocket to $12,000. The research company claims the bull run will start after the second half of 2022.
~
“This is much different from 2018 where tech stocks were still doing well. But Bitcoin sold off along with the rest of the crypto market cap,” said Farrell to Fortune. Last year, venture capitalists invested $30 billion into the market, which eventually boosted the prices significantly. He predicted a similar feat will be repeated again this year triggering off a phenomenal bull run.

These analysts are really trying to prove that a broken clock is never right!

1407  Economy / Economics / Re: Food security in the world has been shaken by Russia's actions on: July 30, 2023, 03:30:17 PM
Yes, everything is fine in Russia without SWIFT, and with spare parts for agricultural machinery - and this is clearly seen in the sharp increase in wheat exports from Russia this year. The very concept of a deal means that it is mutually beneficial for all the parties involved, while the grain deal lasted almost a year and Russia did not receive any benefits from it. Therefore, the deal was not extended. If the UN manages to really interest Russia in resuming the deal, it will resume. Russia listed specifically what it could be interested in. That's exactly how it works.

Can you please explain why, if sanctions are beneficial for Russia and bad for the EU, for god's sake, why would Russia ask to have them lifted at all? Since obviously it won't be mutual to all!

The EU won't starve as it has done last winter eating frozen hamsters in their frozen Como villa while Russia will just import things it can produce itself thus damaging their economy(.............oh, rolf, I need like 5000 breaths after laughing my ass out typing this), so again, why in all gods in the universe would they want that?
1408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you use Bitcoin to pay everything online? on: July 30, 2023, 03:23:14 PM
Examples, you want to buy banana on the way while driving from a hawker, will you use bitcoin to pay the bananas? Because the way I am looking at it, it is possible but the delay in transfer is the concern here. Bitcoin transfer is not like the bank transfer in which we received instant allert within 2-3 minutes time.

I don't know your definition of a hawker but I  haven't seen that many in intersections carrying a PoS either, so why do we compare banks and credit cards in this situation with Bitcoin?

The point Bitcoin’s trying to make by existing isn’t that it’s gonna be better than the banks.

Bun him!!!  Roll Eyes Cheesy

It is true that paying with bitcoin is often not the most convenient thing to do, at least not for now. Keep in mind that Bitcoin was created only 14 years ago which is a very short amount of time in the grand scheme of things so it will take some time to properly implement low cast and fast bitcoin transfers.

It's no longer the 20 century anymore, Uber is just as old as Bitcoin, Nokia was selling the 5320 in the hundreds of millions,  Stripe didn't exist, and neither was Instagram which I really don't think was that much of a pace forward at all. Things change fast these days, how many were using mobile banking in 2009? We're at 3 billion now!

Besides, we will never be able to "implement" fast bitcoin transaction, and it will take a decade before everyone moves to LN, not because they don't want but because it would be technically impossible to!

You can set a fee that will most likely ensure that your transaction will be in the next block, but that can still take up to 10 minutes to get confirmed,

Block 800805 yesterday evening was late 48 minutes, enough for my next block tx fee to next 6 blocks, and we're talking about weekend!

1409  Economy / Economics / Re: Food security in the world has been shaken by Russia's actions on: July 30, 2023, 02:16:38 PM
PS You still didn't indicate which ARRANGEMENTS were violated, which is generally expected by 150% Smiley
Connecting Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT, unblocking foreign assets and accounts of Russian companies associated with the production and transportation of food and fertilizers, resuming supplies of agricultural machinery and spare parts, as well as restoring the operation of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline..

But, but, but, I was told by eggxperts like you and pooya87 that

- The rest of the world doesn't need SWIFT as it's just garbage
- You already get paid in rubles so what would change as you obviously have accepted payments in rubles for gas
- Russia can produce everything for itself so it doesn't need Western machines, spare parts, planes, cars,

It might be possible that all were lies and you even need to import sarcasm cause I have like extra two tons around here ready to be shipped

Now unrelated to the above delusional case, there won't be any problem with food, well, at least not in Europe!
I've just landed home, opened a few hours ago the local forums , whatapp communities, to do a little research for my parents and...scheisse

6.9 tons/ha , HLM 81 (this is the maximum we get in our region), and the price on-site is 150-175 euros (harvested and dumped in the silo!)
We're looking at simply record crop, not sore about corn but wheat, sunflower, rapeseed and beets are through the roof, pretty sure next year we're going to have way lower production as every farmer thinks of moving to some other crops, wheat and corn and barley simply are not helping.

With meat let's see if the exports keep going, China is gobbling pork meat as crazy there is almost nobody in the whole region with the capacity to spare, the 5 million mt will be broken without a sweat, 57carcass is now 2.50E from 1.95 before covid broke in 2019, so around 25%.
But if they stop their imports it's going to go below 2 euros again!

For Africa? Well, that's a different story! One about picking the wrong side!

The title describes the problem pretty much!

I've never encountered it or any other number like this, I wasn't clicking like mad as I'm still using a tablet right now so I probably have way more time between actions than my normal usage but still while giving away merit this thing appeared.

Made a screenshot of it, although...wow, much extra information,

Can't find the code searching with ninjastic, not finding anything related, so out of pure curiosity, what happened?

Attention, guys, OP will never reply to you as OP is already banned from the forum.
~
So, You can continue the discussion without having a response from the OP.

You haven't realized he has already posted with his alt two times on this topic?  Grin

You are very wrong if you think the OP will no longer respond in this thread and in other threads he has created. This user has a bunch of alts from which he has already started posting on the forum. You can check it out for yourself. Here is a list of his alts.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5195644.msg62622116#msg62622116

Nice catch on the plagiarism and the alts, I'll have to merit Ratimov also for the hunt.
Since I don't like to go to another language sub with the autotranslation, any idea who this nutcase is?
For sure he is no newbie to the forum but I really can't make a connection to any of them, this whole religion drama sounds familiar but I can't just figure him out.

I'm pretty sure that if I use miles, feet, yards, furlongs, chi, li, verts, sazhen,  centimeters, on all the distances between, differences in height and footprint on all 118 pyramids in Egypt I will manage to find every number that appears in Bitcoin, but again, that won't mean Satoshi is the reincarnation or Narmer.
1412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could invested assets be nullified by progressive gas fee after halving? on: July 30, 2023, 12:55:43 PM
The OP is confusing two things, because the fees he is talking about in relation to CEX are not only fees for miners, but something that can be called a service fee.
Yes, that is exactly true! But nevertheless such screaming header could cause your attention.

Quote
When you withdraw coins from CEX, the usage service is charged, and that's why people always think that the fees are too expensive.
That's what I did recently and the transaction fee for transferring 20$ cost me 4,5$ to finish it. However next transaction way too bigger than first one have cost me twice less!

What do you mean by way bigger?
The size of the tx in which you received your funds?
Unfortunately with CEX that doesn't matter, they will always charge you a flat fee even if they save a ton while batching, it would be far more interesting if you could tell us the fee in sat/b they've paid for each tx to get confirmed!

Also, since I'm revisiting this topic, there is another thing some do tend to overlook, not the fees from the exchanges.

Let's assume you do your daily DCA for small sums from a good exchange that doesn't really fleece you on withdraws so you pay in the cents range, but you end up with a ton of inputs each worth $10-20, you really need to consolidate all those because if a pump happens and the price goes 3x and you want to take advantage of it you're going to look at a flooded mempool in which you're going to have to spend 100$ to move 30 inputs worth $300. Change 30 inputs with a year for daily DCA so 300+ and it gets way worse!

USA record heat is helping hash rates drop.

Quote
https://www.bitrawr.com/difficulty-estimator

Latest Block:   800551  (10 minutes ago)

Current Pace:   90.4356%  (200 / 221.15 expected, 21.15 behind)

Obviously, it was just a fluke, sorry but I don't believe a 10% to be possible because of a heatwave unless the grid goes down completely in all of US

Quote
Current Pace:   95.4291%  (347 / 363.62 expected, 16.62 behind)

147 blocks later and we're 5 blocks over the speed in this interval.
Blockchair shows 148 blocks in the last 24h

Btw, the funny thing, the weather in Europe is getting colder, you should see London or Rotterdam forecast, all under 20C for a week,  but since we don't have cheap energy I guess it doesn't matter. Cry
My temperature monitor says that even with 9kw output they haven't managed to raise the temperature yesterday to pass 22 degrees in the basement, that concrete bunker is just sucking heat. And it's July!

Scenario 4: difficulty goes down while price goes up > you win (only if difficulty drops more than 4.25% for the average of the 180 days)
1/4 you could win, but only if difficulty drops more than 4.25%, is that impossible? nop, is it very unlikely? indeed?

Ok, I know how my record list looks like, and how my predictions have ended, but on this one let me be blunt:
It's NOT going to happen!

The price staying at least the same and the difficulty dropping on average for 180 days 4.5% ? Why would it?
Second, the package was sold out for 2023-09-30 ~ 2024-03-27, so, you're locking your coins now to start mining two months from now?

Deleted my first reply since I don't want to fill the topic with my posts so I'm going to put them all in one:

alcohol just becomes a headache to manage and a toilet flush 6 hours later.. its a waste

I've mentioned it's not just about alcohol, you can have it in sips of black tea.
As for investing, some like to have fun in their life more than look at the ROI after the doc has to prescribe blue pills.

~

I've put both options in the table, and yeah, just drop everything so you can hoard coins and end up in your sixty with no friends no social life poor health but with a few money it's kind of sad, so enjoy your life people, because it might be over before you know it.

anyways, i prefer the bread loaf measure. or the min wage measure.

The minimum wage is my other topic and although I agree on the bread the moment I start that one I will find out half of the forum doesn't eat bread at all and the others only pita or tortillas so it will turn just like this

But, I have a certain amount of my paycheck that is dedicated to both weed and btc purchases per month.  Keep it as simple as that.  I don't go outside that much.

You do realize your is one of the most interesting post here, so how many (how do we even measure this), let's say joints for 1 BTC?

Ever since I was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes I gave up all sort of processed drinks like soft drinks, juices, energy drinks etc.

Sorry to hear that, hope you can get to the point where it becomes manageable.

However, considering the current price of Bitcoin, I would need to forgo approximately 2400 bottles of beer to afford one Bitcoin.

Hmm, what kind of beer do you drink at more than $12 a bottle?

Not really a deal breaker - but we should start asking the question - What else can I sacrifice
in order to buy Bitcoin?

Hmm, and a question back to you, does one really have to "sacrifice" things in order to invest=buy btc?
Rhetorical of course!

Btw guys I'm still on holiday and still enjoying a beer now and then  Shocked I'm going to update the table into a better format and give some more merit to the contributors once I'm all set in the next hotel and I'm done with planes and airports for a week.
Keep it coming as it has proven quite interesting, far more than I was expecting, especially on the habits and take on this, more than the prices themselves!  Cool

It's funny how you come across an interesting topic on a forum by accident... By the way, I can't find Switzerland anywhere? I bet it should be in the top five.

Switzerland doesn't have a minimum wage, neither did Germany till 2015.

It's not the UK that's questionable; there are other unexpected rankings that might be more surprising. Who would have expected Slovenia to be ranked higher than the USA?

I'm more curious why nobody mentioned Gabon ranking higher than China...

Stompix,
That chart a good one.. but it'll way better if you solely made observations yourself...

What do you want me to do, work for a year on minimum wage in each country?   Grin

Buh, ion even know why Turkmenistanians are living in such an adverse condition yet, Ashgabat looks like heaven on earth..

looks like.....
You can Google hundreds of pictures from the 80s in eastern countries which show heaven on earth but in real life you could only see bread lines.
Besides the capital 1/6 of the country.

As I mentioned in my other topic
Days you need to work your ass at minimum wage for a BTC, by country

I simply got tired of standard figures and numbers, maybe it's funnier and more interesting to see the price in other forms, stuff like the bigmac index although I personally hate PPP as much as one can hate stats. Adding the fact that there is no way in hell I could find reliable up-to-date info for every country and its living standard and current prices, I got a funny idea inspired by LoyceV topic and combining it with one of those spammy low-quality therapy session topics in which newbies tell us for a few merits what chatgpt told them on how to live a fulfilling life, here it is>

So, to drink (alcohol, or cola or tea or whatever  Roll Eyes ) or to buy Bitcoin???

Since it will be expressed in prices and tastes all over the world probably a more interesting image on PPP and DCA (drinking costs averages)

In short, your favorite usual drink, no it doesn't really have to be an alcoholic beverage!!!, its price, and how many of them you have to forget and leave in the shop before check-out till you save for one BTC.

Note:
Use the drink you're used to buying daily or something, not some fancy thing you buy once a year because that would really screw things up.
Second note, If it's something more exotic please drop an image or a link.
Third note:
If you're not afraid of getting doxxed, mention the continent at least.

Me:
Kozel Premium Pißwasser, 1.30E/ bottle, so I need to give up 20,472 beers!,

1418  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will be the impact of this news on Bitcoin adoption ? on: July 28, 2023, 05:24:19 PM
Zero, why?
Because Satimoto doesn't own a single charging station!
Because those charging stations don't accept Bitcoin directly but through their app which converts bitcoin with cash.

So it's like saying Walmart accepts Bitcoin because you can pay with a Binance Visa card funded with bitcoin.
This is serious. Which means the impact can even be less than zero. They make people that have bitcoin to pay with bitcoin, but the app which makes it possible is converting the bitcoin to fiat. If there is more bitcoin sales, the price would be reducing. Or would this not lead to what that I am thinking?

Of course, it can go that way but then it would mean that even sig campaign here on the forum has a negative impact right?
If everybody is selling their earned coins and not stashing them then there is a negative on the price.

Anyhow, cold shower time guys, stop looking at those 60 000 and more at this:

1419  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: USB Mining on: July 28, 2023, 05:17:44 PM
2 cents profit per day on a USB asic for 299 euros as an example of the worst investment in mining.

Why are these USB ASICs so expensive?

Somebody was selling the first batch for 800 on eBay back when it was launched, it's not a price that is set in stone.
Bitcoinmerch is selling it for $199 that's 50% cheaper and it's selling a 6x pack with hub and fans for $999, that's $166 a piece.

It's a 2021 design made in small batches that is now treated as a cool piece of history, that's why prices are so high.

Why are prices so high? I don't know, but it's easy to think that those who produce these USB miners don't benefit from the same rates as those who produce tens of thousands of ASICs for their components? Economy of scale is something to consider IMO

The s9, (although if I remember correctly the Compac F uses S17 chips) had 189 chips, the rest of the miner is cheap compared to chip prices nowadays so there goes the additional cost distribution for the manufacturer while with the USB is a ton of work on small batches, then there is the thing that Bitmain doesn't sell the chips directly at their production cost so far costlier. You can't build something with more work, and more customization while buying all the components from the guy who mass-produces and charges you extra for them and then compete with him.

1420  Economy / Economics / Re: The gloomy light called subsidy. on: July 28, 2023, 04:47:00 PM
Imagine how this sounds for a European who pays double the petrol and diesel cost since half of the price is just taxes!
You can't compare only the prices of petrol without looking at other factors.

You just did in the other half of your response  Roll Eyes

Factors like cost of living, standard of living, minimum wage, employment rate, inflation rate, per Capita income, availability of basic amenities and many more. All these factors should be considered when comparing the prices of petrol of two different countries.

Which is better, to pay the subsidies and make things less expensive for it's citizens (who most of them are middle and lower class) or don't pay the subsidies and then the poor can no more afford that particular product, in this case petrol.

It's not about what's better but what's sustainable and affordable by the government!
Yeah, everything is great if it's subsidized, let's have cheap energy cheap petrol, free health care, free everything, what can go wrong?

Well, I've lived in a country that had these, the pinnacle of communism where we had all these but with rations and we couldn't even afford them as we were dirt poor. Cause somebody has to pay for those subsidies and if the subsidies cost more than the returns you end up in the garbage bin just like the USRR and its satellite states.

I know it, it's great for poor people to have cheap lodging, to enjoy some affordable cheap food but if this is done in the form of subsidies somebody else is paying for it, and if the returns are not the same someone will have to continuously pay more and more for it till you have the entire population going poor and you have to subsidies them all from funds that are no longer there.

Been there, lived through that and I have seen it a hundred times, there is no way it is sustainable long term.
