1241  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Report: Prices of Mining One Bitcoin Worldwide on: September 02, 2023, 09:32:29 PM
... and after taking a closer look at some of the outrageously incorrect numbers stated ...
...
And the most unprofitable countries to mine 1 BTC are:
1. Italy - $208,560.33
2. Austria - $184,352.44
3. Belgium - $172,381.50
4. Denmark - $166,795.06
...
#2 is Australia, not Austria - say sorry to everyone in that country for mistyping the name ...
and somehow, magically it costs 3.68 times more in Australia than in New Zealand right next to Australia Smiley

The one painting the map was the one that made the mistake, the prices in their math, as stated in the methodology are influenced by this: https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/electricity_prices/
And the most expensive places are, in reverse order Germany,Denmark,Belgium,Austria,Italy.
The weird thing is that he has mistaken Austria for Australia but was able to put New Zealand on a map, usually, lazy people simply forget about it. Looking at Australia at 0.231 it should be like 20% more expensive than New Zealand at 0.183 and 3 times cheaper than Italy.

One more thing would be why is Poland green and Romania magenta when Romania has cheaper electricity according to the same source, but like who really cares about those details when the whole thing is just stupid.

1242  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why is horse racing so unpopular here and a bit of extra feedback on: September 02, 2023, 09:13:02 PM
Where I live betting on horse racing is probably the most widely accepted form of gambling.

Oh finally someone!!!!!  Grin 1:20, not bad not terrible!

My point also is that it looks like horse racing is dying out and most casinos also don't usually include it on their games, they prefer card and table games like roulette, slots, blackjack. Moreover, majority of gamblers like the soccer game, I guess that is where the attention is and that is where casinos chase the gambling population to.
Absolutely, horse racing is already faded away even though few casino have that game option on their site, it does not really get the traffic they expect compared to other sports.

Fading away?
USA - Breeders' Cup, $50 million bet on 5 races, $200 million over the two days, 50k spectators each day,
Australia - Everest, $15 million, 45 000 attendance
British Champions Day ,  £30 million in bets, £5million prize money, 25 000 spectators
Saudi Cup $30 million pool prize, Dubai World Cup $12 million  pool prize
Japan World Cup, 100 thousand attendance, 6 million for the winner

Somebody paid for the Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus $70 million and horse racing is dying?

- Would let's say 1-2 mbtc (per event, about one or two per month) be enough for people here to at least open a few links and take a look at what hoses are running and what their timeform is?
Another yes. Clicking a few links and reading a few lines of text about the game will be enough of an incentive for those who are looking to get the prize money. It may not be a 100% certainty that people will be winning though, but taking chances is what gamblers do anyway. Plus, the requirements are pretty easy.

Yup, I need to plan it nicely, make it easy to enter, and at the same time force the participants to at least know how many legs a horse has!
And, yeah, somebody will be winning definitely, even if nobody manages to get any race winner I will still hand the prize to the guy that got closest to something, like one that managed to choose a horse that got at least second or third. I need to think about this!
1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we support Bitcoin if Satoshi demands life sentencing for non-violence on: September 02, 2023, 07:52:00 PM
Did you provide these in court?   A judge ruled in his favor that he is Satoshi Nakamoto.   Evidently the judge needed to see these signed messages you have.

And where is that court decision you're talking about?
The only case is that of Craig vs Kleiman and even if Craig won as by not having to pay half of 1.1 million BTC to Kleiman no judge would be able to claim in that case that he is Satoshi,  they just ruled that he has to pay Kleiman $100 million in damages and not 500 000 BTC that's all, the rest is speculation.

Am an OG Bitcoiner slowly coming around to the fact that Craig is Satoshi.

If I were I would sue your doctor in case he prescribed you anything weird lately.
You might win more in damages than trading or holding Bitcoin as it obviously caused you something pretty serious!

He is clearly a passionate & talented individual with all of the credentials & experience needed to have created the original Bitcoin.

Told ya, this is something weird, next you're going to hear colors and smell sounds.

Now ignoring all the BS, it doesn't matter who invented what and what his views would be,Tor was developed by the US military, the NRL branch, does that stop you from using it?  And let's not even talk about who and why invented Fanta!

1245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: imagining what he will be like the last halving on: September 02, 2023, 04:07:42 PM
For miners, it's safe to assume that transaction fees will go through the roof.

No, it's not!
Miners don't dictate the fees as a bank does, clients choose how much they are willing to pay for it.
That's why with the same block reward we had days of fees of 1sat/b and of 200sat/b.
Nobody is going to pay $1000 worth of BTC for a tx when buying a $40 pizza.

They might start looking into greener, more sustainable energy sources to cut costs and invest in better mining hardware to maximize their returns.

Of all the fillings I've read coming from mining companies that are forced to release data, nothing was able to beat Marathon Group Beowulf coal powerplant costs at 2.10 cents/kwh. Sustainable energy doesn't mean cheap energy!

Quote
On the other hand, for folks like us, the incentive to spend our bitcoins may decrease. With rewards diminishing and fees on the rise, there's a stronger argument for holding onto our digital treasure unless it's absolutely necessary.

Lighting Network!

1246  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why is horse racing so unpopular here and a bit of extra feedback on: September 02, 2023, 02:55:10 PM
I never understood horse racing. It always felt very risky to me although by any chance if you hit the winning horse then you win a lot.

Isn't that what pure gambling is about? I like it when there are so many variables there is sometimes like littery nothing to do and just go with your guts!

Unless you try, you will never know. Good idea trying from your own funds if that works then you can look for sponsors.

Not planing on doing that, I will just run out of my own funds as it's just for my own entertainment, just as I still pay for a diablo server despite not playing there for almost two years, I just like that chaat and the guys meeting there.

The current generation of gamblers seek for more immediate and fast paced experiences, I guess;  h

I don't know what's faster than a 5 or 6 furlong race like the upcoming sprint cup  Grin
You know the time, you place the bet, and in 1 minute it's game over, Your horse blew the start and you can close the website already. Plus talking about a thrilling experience, one 2 miles 4f long jumping race with 16 fences that your horse can blow any time is more thrilling than the 11-meter penalties, It's one jump and all over not like you have the chance to recover. Probably it's just me but horse racing looks like chucking down monster energy cans one after other while roulette is sipping Aperol.

Oh, I'm not trying to convince you to strat betting, just lol, just pointing out things!

I once bet on horse racing but have a hard time finding a live stream to watch the match online especially those horse racing from Japanese. I believe this sports will be popular if the streaming for the live match is accessible including the horse stats.

Not going to promote any website but almost every one of the established ones offers live coverage, I watch all UK and Irish festivals directly on the betting platform. For Japan and Australia, different time zone that's a pain in the ass and ruins everything! Same with stuff from US like the Kentucky Derby which I never, neverrrr! managed to see it live in the last 10 years!

Horse racing is very popular on oldies because my uncle is still into it u til now. I think most of the forum member hanging out on gambling board are Genz or Millennials which is why they preferred the popular sports over this animal sports that is not widely available globally.

Thanks for making me feel like a grandpa! jk! Grin

Horse racing is very hard to win since its betting option consists of multiple choices that are more than the typical 2 options.

You can just go with a winning horse, or a 2-place insurance, there is no need to focus on things like a trifecta!
But, in my short-lived thread, I did manage to hit a perfect 1,2,3 place on the second day.

1247  Economy / Gambling discussion / Why is horse racing so unpopular here and a bit of extra feedback on: September 02, 2023, 02:15:26 PM
Let's keep this as simple as possible and let's not shitpost!

I see thousands of posts about football, a few hundred about other sports, and the rest are just almost non-existent. I'm a gambler myself but I stopped a while ago betting on soccer, all the Nxx in American sports and I'm just betting now and then on horse racing, from one penny at a time to some larger sums in case of a grade 1 event or festival.
But here it seems like there is little interest in this, is that because horse racing is just unpopular or is it because, well,.... the casinos that sponsor most signatures here are not promoting it? So no post quota to make?  Grin My old local gambling forum that covered this is also near death, I'm sitting in the sun 8 hours a day boring myself to death, so here comes feedback next part :

- Do you honestly think running a prediction game (run with my own funds) would attract genuine interest in this and not just shitposting quota?
- Would let's say 1-2 mbtc (per event, about one or two per month) be enough for people here to at least open a few links and take a look at what hoses are running and what their timeform is?
- Is anyone here actually gambling on horse racing?

Because it's sitting in their account and they don't care.

THAT is PayPal's target audience. Fees in, fees out, terrible exchange rate. But, it's a painless process.
I have a few clients who STILL use PayPal just for credit card processing. They could save a bunch my moving to another vendor. But over the years they have integrated PayPal with so many things. Even saving 2% on the $300000 (so $6000 net) they move through them every year will cost them more in redoing their back end then a few years of fees.

-Dave

A long time ago I swore I was going to stop even trying to understand how the payments happen in the US but every single time I stumble upon this kind of gem and I kept wondering why in the name of god, why???
I have both my personal account and I do accounting for my family business now and then and take care of payments all we need is a bank account, we have an app with direct debiting, I just set up times, and maximum amounts so a mistake won't overcharge us millions, I can pay every single bill by just scanning a code and that's it, why, again why would I ever need a 3rd party service besides my bank? Do you know how much these costs? 1-5 euros a month depending on the package and if you want better deals with your debit/credit card.

Running a paypoint? If you have a small business it's 0.3% fee on sales, money goes instantly to your bank account, and you automatically get a credit line with zero interest for 3 months for 25% of your revenue in that period!

So, why would anyone still need paypal?
10 years ago? Yeah for sure, it was like star wars compared to the rest but nowadays? Meh!!!

And this is another point for our crypto enthusiasts in this industry, which cannot really stop its rise over time.
~
I don't like the system like that, it's just for me.

Nice contradiction in just 4 lines of text.

1249  Economy / Economics / Re: CB Consumer Confidence delivers another blow on the US and USD on: September 02, 2023, 11:36:57 AM
Personally, I took my profit on that day before the close of the market, which means that I enjoyed it as it lasted. There is conflicting news released for the US after the OP, so what do you expect? The last important one was the Unemployment Claims which favoured the US. Did you expect Bitcoin to continue climbing after such news? I guess not.

Correlation does not imply causation and you know that all too well, the first one was just a coincidence, and the second one regarding unemployment is simply a no-go since the drop happened well before the numbers were released. I will not deny that major indexes do trigger shock waves in Bitcoin price, but I also don't think any of the small ones actually have even the tiniest effect, a rate rise or inflation going beyond prediction both ways will for sure do, I stated that myself numerous times arguing with guys that thought Bitcoin is immune to those, but for things like consumer indexes, no that really doesn't matter.

The pump was triggered by the court ruling, denying this when every single graph details this to the minute, sorry, it's just denial!

Just to make sure, I do believe that market news about indexes influences the market because they paint the picture of the economy which is basically the only thing that matters when it comes to money, but a consumer index triggering a nearly 15% while not even rate rise or inflation data being able to move it by more than 5% lately in the last few months is just a no.

ITS good ITS time to get rich

One year later:

You pay monthly Fee 77$

Lol!! One year wasted and instead of leading the world you beg for 77$.

Contract set up fee is 77$ and monthly Fee 77$. So 77+77= 154$ joining Fee. Disscount for those who pay for: 6 months Fee 300$ one year Membership Fee 777$
You can earn money by invite others in you get 25% from new members instantly If they pay joining Fee 77$+77$ monthly Fee.

This is a Ponzi scheme so it's tag worthy I guess.
But seeing you already have another 2 accounts still active and 100 already tagged I wonder if it makes any sense to do so!

1251  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Miner for heating water on: September 02, 2023, 11:10:50 AM
I don't know why we bring up the aspect of money here, we're talking about 1kw at max generation hours so if we go by the most efficient things out there it will be 2$ a day as mikey said, but, that was assuming 24/7, and you're on extra PV, that would be 8 hours a day depending on where you live ? 60 cents? I think what we need to clear up first is how is your electricity system setup-up, do you have batteries or are you grid-tied or other, if you don't have storage capacity for the extra electricity then there is an avalanche of problems including the gear not working at all during one cloudy day because your already strained system can't generate enough extra power.

The other thing as heaters were mentioned, those were heaters that run on the grid, you have here a boiler that runs when you have extra energy, so for the comfort it's a big no. I understand the hobby part but it's going to be a pain in the ass to make it actually usable,  and if at any moment you're bringing the $ in the discussion it's already a futile attempt, with 150-200 you can get a water boiler, it draws around 2-3 kwh a day to keep the water warm if you don't use so you don't need to power up a gear again to reheat it (if you can ) and you don't need to release water if you reach boiling point either.

My gut feeling tells me it's not going to be worth it, but it's always fun to see the numbers.

In $ it will never be worth it, if it's a hobby and he's doing it only for fun, yes it might be!

1252  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [WARNING] Whirlwind.money - withdrawals are not being processed ⚠️ on: September 01, 2023, 02:33:26 PM
I am tagging everyone who is still supporting old decodx flag.

And you are?Huh

You'll risk turning the Flag system into the feedback systeem, where negative feedback is easily handed out. I think that's the reason theymos set strict rules for the Flag system.

I think we're turning the flag system into a debate at Athenes's Lyceum trying to figure out if water will still get you wet if you're taking a bath in a pool full of cola.

Since OP (and the others) got refund not from whirlwind directly but thanks to the fact that they left some escrowed money, I am not removing support for the flag.

Me neither, the support stays!

Btw, I still got around $12 left on my whirlwind note but didn’t want to waste anyone’s time for such low amount, so the victims weren’t all made whole. Tongue
I almost left similar amount there as well, thinking that it's not worth the other people's time but then I thought fuck it, $10 in BTC now might be much more in the future so I got it out. Afterall, every satoshi counts.  Wink

If the site is still up (can't check over tor) then I assume the intenal note transfer is still up also.
So two or three users could combine the dust and ask for a withdrawal, if that doesn't happen then.. flagggggg!

1253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FBI stops Qakbot and seizes crypto in the process on: September 01, 2023, 01:01:35 PM
I'm somehow convinced that much more damage was done through fiat than through cryptocurrencies, because at the time when the bot network was supposedly created, Bitcoin didn't even exist, and it wasn't until 2017 that BTC made its way into the mainstream and became popular with hackers. Even today, the number of people who own cryptocurrencies is below 5% of the total population, but there is no doubt that hackers exploit them much more than one might expect.

Not even close!
The first real wave of ransomware happened in 2013 and just by the name "crypto locker" you can guess what the payment method was.
There was no major ransomware wave before that.

Also, Qakbot is not the ransomware, that is the payload, Qakbot is the backdoor gateway to send it, just because it was launched around 2008 doesn't mean it has been used for the same thing since then, it has been used to spread malware, viruses. Let's be honest with ourselves here, have you heard of a ransomware attack displaying an IBAN lately?  Grin

The fact FBI is continuously and rigorously working on seizing as much Crypto as possible is scary and funny at the same time as I am not able to understand either they are against it or they just want some of that to be owned by the USA Government? I mean they can just simply buy more Crypto or Bitcoin instead of spending that much budget on Military's.

Do you actually believe this?
Then how do you explain the FBI seizing 80 million in cash the other month, they could have just printed it, right?  Cheesy
1254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hundreds of thousands trafficked to work as online scammers in SE Asia, says UN on: September 01, 2023, 12:38:35 PM
Bro!!!  Grin

Only after the economies of all those countries improve like China will people's average wages go up and make this kind of work gradually become infesable and peter out into the darkness.
as well as mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, South Asia, and even further afield from Africa and Latin America.

If you think an average wage that is still lower than all of Europe's minimum would put a dent in scamming businesses that thrive in millions you're living in a fantasy, There will be always victims, migrant workers from Bulgaria and Romania are sometimes abused in western Europe and we talk about economies with a nearly median of 1000 euros a month, girls from all over eastern Europe are trafficked and you think 200 a month would stop it?

What would stop it is people not falling for this shit!
The war on drugs can be won without one shot if people would simply stop taking drugs!

Anyway, many of these scams are crypto-related. There must be a number of such operations here. I'm afraid the operators aren't locals. Most of them are Chinese. Even their employees, many are not locals. Many of them are Chinese strictly housed in guarded apartments. They can't easily be stopped because they have protectors from law enforcement agencies. In poor countries like mine, illegal business operations just have to be generous in giving bribes for the government to leave them alone.

Every time I read about a Chinese scam happening in India I always see there is a small line that despite all the rest of the hate and fury against the mastermind paints the reality behind it. So just like here:
https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/india/how-scamsters-in-india-are-sending-thousands-of-crores-back-to-china/articleshow/99839197.cms
First the denial:
Quote
The Chinese scammers use forged documents of Indians to start new companies or make them dummy directors in their firms, thus escaping the regulatory mechanism.
The the admission:
Quote
the Chinese scammers often work in tandem with Indian accomplices which act as a front for the Chinese-owned firms.

Common, you can't just blame China for this when India hosts like one thousand scammer call centers.
As for the Philipines itself, it's not even about being local, they are exporting it:

1255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Colorado DMV now accepts cryptocurrency for online services. on: September 01, 2023, 11:56:23 AM
Those customers who will be paying I'm cryptocurrency will have to do so through PayPal with a service fee of $1  plus 1.83% of  DMV total, asides PayPal fee that may apply for each transaction.

So, why would anyone choose to pay with crypto from their papal account when I can use a normal card and pay none of the fees?

This is starting to become infuriating, for real!
Bitcoin started as a "A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash".

And now, every single adoption from someone goes through an intermediary platform, and guess what, even if we exclude that major inconvenience that goes against the main principle behind it, it's also becoming more f* expensive to use crypto! I swear, sometimes I feel like I need to make a set of tinfoil hats because this looks like someone wanting to piss off Bitcoiners and intentionally making services available but with intermediaries and higher fees, just to make it look as Bitcoin payments are not the best alternatives.  No surprise that usage is losing steam and nearly everyone thinks of "investments" rather than daily payments.
/rant over!
1256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Countries where Bitcoin is “banned” on: September 01, 2023, 11:43:24 AM
The information is so misleading in many ways. Most of these countries still have active users and as stated by few users the countries that you have mentioned like Egypt, India, Russia, Kosovo and turkey are highly active in the crypto currency trading. You really need to verify the source and also verify information from at least different sources or local sources of those countries. The best way to do this is ask the local boards to participate in this voting and ask the actual situation about bitcoin in their countries.

So we should trust people on a forum rather than an official decision?

I don't understand why everyone is angry at OP, it is what it is!
Just because you and one hundred other people drive in a city at 70kmh and nobody gets a fine it doesn't mean that that limit is not 50kmph!
Porn is banned in some, alcohol is banned in some, and some countries have banned books and movies, just because people can get their land on it it doesn't mean there is no ban!

The first thing that catches eye in this list is that there is not a single developed European country there, and this forces us to draw certain conclusions. It turns out that bitcoin is banned for the most part in third world countries, with a weak economy, weak technologically, or where there are totalitarian tendencies that try to control citizens as much as possible. T

Isn't it ironic?
People cheer for BRICS and de-dollarization and there you have the list, no G7 or EU country while you have 3 out of 5 members from Brics there and the leading one has banned everything over and over. It would be interesting to see their ranking when it comes to freedom and press, seeing Russia and Iran in that list probably the bottom 20 in the world.

1257  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No Electric Supply to Bitcoin Mining Operations in Laos on: September 01, 2023, 11:32:53 AM
Miners pay more than neighbor countries, and less electricity is wasted in transmission lines. This is clearly rejecting wealth in exchange of some political favor.

How would that even work in practice?
If miners would pay more than the other countries then what stops miners from going to Thailand now and paying there more than in Laos as Thailand will still get electricity cheaper than what miners pay in Laos?

Second, there si real data with clear numbers and this is for 2021 before electricity hit sky-high prices, so 2021 Laos exported:
24,399 GWh and received $1.96B, which goes to a relative price of 8.2 cents/kwh. Do you honestly think miners would pay more than that?
And those are 2021 numbers, not 2022 when everything went everywhere at least 20%-30%  more expensive!
Wealth...common!
1258  Economy / Economics / Re: CB Consumer Confidence delivers another blow on the US and USD on: September 01, 2023, 10:01:43 AM
However, the news effect clearly shows that the market interpreted it as a need for a more cautious approach to the USD and that people need alternatives to the USD during this time of financial instability.

One day later how does this "alternative" look?  Grin
As we're back at 26k it's clear what it was, a pump triggered by some good news and then the cold reality that Graysacale is just in line for 2024 events, so basically nothing really changed, there was no influx of money, there was no real volume behind it, there was no constant demand even for a day!

As for the consumer index while the drop is indeed serious it also comes on a massive jump that again nobody was expecting.
As adaseb said, look at the numbers for May: Forecast 99.0 Actual 102.5
Or look at a larger interval, 2006-2016 for example, the index never went above current levels!
From the 1970 till 2000 it was more below 100 points than above them!
China's index is below 100, the EU is the same, lack of consumer optimism doesn't mean people rushing to invest in risky assets, quite the opposite.

1259  Economy / Economics / Re: People keep talking how weak dollar and how bad usa economy getting on: September 01, 2023, 09:48:13 AM
People who love the US, and like an authoritarian world always say that a weakening dollar is impossible and there is no new world order. They are just trying to deny the truth, they don't want to accept what is happening. Indeed, de-dollarization is no longer a theory but is becoming stronger than ever. I am really waiting for a new world order, a fairer world for all countries.

A new world order is being formed and we should accept what is happening.

Yeah, yeah, let's invent a new metric to tell poor people they are not actually poor.
But since we're on Bitcointalk shouldn't we talk about wealth in Bitcoin" So let's look at those GDP numbers in BTC
Already done math:

Brics GDP:
China   589,171,528 BTC
India   105,428,505 BTC
Russia   66,057,674 BTC
Brazil   53,454,518 BTC
South Africa   13,951,694 BTC
Total 828,063,919 BTC

G7 GDP:
United States   763,990,033 BTC
Japan   164,033,953 BTC
Germany   140,302,857 BTC
United Kingdom   105,875,747 BTC
France   97,590,465 BTC
Canada   66,057,674 BTC
Italy   70,023,355 BTC
Total 1,407,874,086 BTC

So in BTC , BRICS is actually half of G7!
Now BRICS has added penniless Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, and a few others that barely matter.
G7 has allies and trading partners like South Korea, Australia, Spain and the Netherlands who just by themselves have a bigger GDP than Russia and India combined!

To see the harsh reality beyond those numbers just take a look at my topic:
Quote

Let's look at Brics:

So, how much does it matter that you have a 3 billion people when everyone just wants to flee those countries?
If the G7 is in such bad shape why is BRICS losing 4 million citizens that emigrate to G7 countries each year?

The top six countries of birth for new LPRs in FY 2021 were Mexico (14 percent), India (13 percent), mainland China (7 percent), the Philippines (4 percent), and the Dominican Republic and Cuba (3 percent apiece). Together, these countries represented about 44 percent of all new green-card recipients in FY 2021.

There is propaganda and there is reality! But don't worry, you can't miss it no matter how much you try to avoid it, it will hit you like a brick wall!

Oh btw, I see you're in a campaign that pays in...what? Rubles? Yuan? Rials?
If you hate the dollar that much how do you feel getting paying in $ equivalent and keeping the petrodollar alive?

With FBI having to find some data, I don’t really get it. Could you relate with a link to verify on that. Yet again, how do you hope to identify between legit and illegal transactions with the goal to make tracing impossible.

It was all over the news:

The authorities took down the platform's infrastructure, seizing four servers, 7 terabytes of data and 1909.4 bitcoins (BTC) ($47.7 million), Europol said on Wednesday.

Nobody knows if it was just nodes, back-ups, or all the logs that maybe CM kept despite their promises, there was no real proof they kept the logs but there is no proof the other way around either.

2- what more could be done to prevent history from repeating in the manner as with Chipmixer?

Nothing. Just as you can't open a bank account anonymously you will never have a regulated mixer with no kyc.
