I spent a couple of btc last week on Overstock. Replenished a couple of days later, cheaper...

I thought the price was going back up?  Good timing either way.

It has dropped by about 10% since last week, and more than that if you consider yesterday's price.
42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PesetaCoin][PTC] New Wallet 0.8.7 [MANDATORY UPDATE] on: February 03, 2015, 10:06:13 PM

Did you know that? PesetaCoin will be removed from c-cex exchange on February 10th.

    Vote now on https://cryptoine.com/voting#PTC

Do you know the reason why? That's weird, since PTC still is a secure coin.

Don't you have the e-mail blockchain.info sent you when you registered? There's a link in it to recover your wallet.

And if not, well you've learned an important life lesson which you definitely needed to learn.
44  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you earn money online? on: February 03, 2015, 10:02:16 PM

Ebay is my main source of income right now.

Ask me anything you want.

I'm interested to see after the halving what would be the impact towards the coin price. And more interesting is when the 100 billion cap has been reached.

The miners still get a tiny amount to dump after the 100 billion cap but I'm hoping the price goes up afterwards. It's not a hard cap, technically the miners still get a tiny reward afterwards.

Not only a tiny reward, since they will still get a considerable amount of LTCs for many years to come.
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Moolah Scam on Mintpal - MintpalJustice.com - Report Missing Funds on: February 03, 2015, 10:00:47 PM
Landon(theBoffin) is named in the Syscoin High Court action(bankruptcy proceedings) going on at the moment. Thoughg him being in the US and the actin in the UK means he prob gets away scott free! i agree he should go down, or at least face some tough questions. As far as i can see he has done nothing apart from keep quite and hide!

he could easily be charged in the USA for fraud as he opened bank accounts and fronted for a company which he likely knew was a scam

there is no criminal proceedings the uk either as far as i can see ryan kennedy has not been arrested either

they are both scott free and probably posting on this thread under differnt accounts as some of the posts are highly defensive imo

Nothing happens "easily" in the US legal system.

Give it up.  MoolahMintPal is last year's news.  Nobody cares anymore.  Stop acting like the pathetic dead-enders still chasing the LabCoin dude!

The hot new scandal is GAW/PayCoin.

Next time:

1) invest in Monero instead of shitcoins like SYS and the other crap Mintpal offered, and
2) keep your Monero safe in an offline wallet on a USB key

Come on, this is not the place to spam about your favourite altcoin in a vain attempt to pump it.
47  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with Bitcoins please..URGENT on: February 03, 2015, 09:59:55 PM
Guys, I have to do a paper on the title- Is bitcoin a viable alternative to money as we know it....and if not, could it be one in the future.

Basically, I need to know what bitcoin is, how it works, how it is similar/different to normal money, how it affects the economy of a country and what are its future prospects.

Any help will be greatly appreciated...I dont mind if you send me a link where I can read up on the topic.

Thanks for the help.

The main difference with "normal" money is that its supply is predetermined by mathematics rather than legislators, and it's unregulated.

51  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Best online Bitcoin wallet ? on: January 20, 2015, 10:52:56 PM
Anybody know an online wallet as secure as blockchain.info ?
No, but why wouldn't you use blockchain.info, considering its the "Official" one tho?

Since, like you said, it's the "Official" wallet, it is more likely that some enemies of Bitcoin would want to compromise the website, so it could be a good reason why one would want to avoid it.

I still find Blockchain.info safer than all other online wallets though, especially because the funds are recoverable with desktop wallets in case the site stops working.
52  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are you spending your Bitcoin? on: January 20, 2015, 10:50:12 PM
I barely have 2 and I dont see a reason why I should spend them instead of holding them, when I can buy what I need with fiat.

There are a few reasons why you might want to do that. One of them would be to contribute to Bitcoin's economy, and nothing would be stopping you from buying back the coins you'd spend.

54  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can't understand the next block halving and it's impact on the price. on: January 20, 2015, 10:46:57 PM
Well if the block reward is getting halved from 25 BTC to 12.5 BTC, it literally means there's less Bitcoins in circulation.

Which in turn means scarcity.  If Bitcoin actually becomes useful, and people want more of it in the next year or so, and there's less of it around....well you know the drill.

The ole supply and demand.

It will take many block halvings before Bitcoins actually become scarce though. Even with 12.5 Bitcoins created on average every 10 minutes, it's still very inflationary.
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.8 Required Update on: January 20, 2015, 10:45:17 PM

I find it very impressive that Canada's government is willing to give almost $1 Million to finance a video game.

Yeah, that's a hell of a lot of money - better be a good game.

K.

Yeah it better be! Tongue

It seems promising, but it wouldn't be the first time in human history that something promising ends up being a deception. But I have hope for this one Smiley
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PND]Pandacoin | First Hybrid Wallet | 5000% Faster Blockchain Download | Instant Sync on: January 20, 2015, 10:42:22 PM
The road map is pretty clear in the general aim of creating a Cryptocurrency that is easy to use, easy to obtain, easy to understand and has global mass appeal. That is the first thing you see on the website but its just not set out in a list with dates like you are probably used to because that is the way everyone else does it. I think Pandacoin have already proved that they are not about doing things the way everyone else does it but about innovating within the market, that to me is much more worth my time and investment.

What a vague bunch of words. Most of them aren't even true. It's got nothing to do with how others do things. Please learn to think for yourself instead of basing the entirety of your value on it's difference against other's actions.

I like Pandacoin, it's a fast PoS coin with a nice community, but I also find it true that the "innovations" which have been made or are being talked about are not really useful and seem to be not much more than ideas to build hype with.

Imho, Pandacoin should remain the simple and functional coin that it is.
57  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can't understand the next block halving and it's impact on the price. on: January 20, 2015, 09:53:11 PM
In short, there's a stable amount of new Bitcoins which are created everyday, this is a kind of inflation which puts downward pressure on Bitcoin's price (since many miners, well probably the vast majority of them, instantly sell them).

Block halving simply means that half of the current amount of Bitcoins will be created every day, so there's less negative impact on the price.

What an easy explaniation, thank you so much, apperciated a lot.

Another question please if you don't mind, why I see people talking about that the price will spike up to $1,000 and more ?!

What do you think ? And when will the halving occur, in 2016 ?

Thank you.

No problem, hope you'll have fun learning about cryptocurrencies.

In my humble opinion, Bitcoin's price is still overvalued for the long term, so I very much doubt that the price could stay stable anywhere near 1000$ in the next few years. I expect the price to stay in the $100 to $300 zone until the next halving, when it will go up but not much over $500.

60  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What % of an entire Bitcoin is 1 millibitcoin mBTC on: January 20, 2015, 09:40:27 PM
Seriously?

Do you even metric?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_system

Quote
the prefix milli is to indicate a one-thousandth part of the unit

I have no problem using the mBTC and µBTC, but as I have seen more and more having problem with these SI prefixes, it makes me start feeling the suggestion of using "bits" does make sense.

How is memorizing what a "bit" is easier than memorizing what a mBTC is?
