681  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: any way to get a couple mBTC for free? on: July 17, 2014, 03:22:38 PM
I don't know how much that gives, but you can get free coins by opening a blockchain.info wallet and sharing it on twitter. There's a publicity about that on the wallet's page.

Is there any minting calculator for Pandacoin, like that one for Peercoin: http://poscalculator.peercointalk.org/ ?

At the moment no, I wasn't even aware of it, will forward it as a suggestion to the devs doing web development Smiley

Cool, thanks!

Although the staking time estimator included in the wallet is already quite good Smiley
683  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone else have a feeling NXT is about to explode? on: July 17, 2014, 02:17:44 PM
Hi,

I want to invest in one of these two. I'm having trouble figuring out who controls all the ripples. Also is it true that ripple labs copyrighted the term "ripple"?

To the moon G!

Ripple is still in beta, only small portion has been issued. Nxt is mostly held by its founder and his alts. You can find good blog post on Szalasz blog where its explained how they released only about 25% of currency to people. Ripple as term cannot be copyrighted, ripple effect etc, its generic term.

Ripple can't be copyrighted because it's a generic term? Are you sure? Then why does Apple have a copyright?

i think that time to add proof of stake has come for doge

With the recent vrc mintpal fiasco I think this is the worst time to ever think about such thing.

Apparently it was a security hole in mintpal and had nothing to do with POS. although there are alot of thoughts on POS security holes which I am not qualified to make a decision on.

The problems is when somebody can get 51% of the coins , in theory.
But also in theory it has been proven that an attack could be run with far less than 51% coins.

In the February runs cryptsy had also a huge volume of dogecoins and you never know....

Imho, it seems more likely that an organization could have access to an hashrate bigger than 51% of our network, especially after the next few halvings, than someone could steal enough coins from an exchange to do a 51% attack.

And anyways, a huge percentage of Dogecoin being stolen would have way more impact in itself than the 51% attack that would possibly follow.

Just realised that my name on the old list was written as "lynn402". Hope that won't be a problem for payment.
The correct link to my profile was given in the enrollment form though.

Vericoin had the disadvantage that 30% of the coins were kept on a single exchange. Dogecoin, being quite older, has a better distribution, which means that even if an exchange was hacked it would probably not be enough to make a PoS attack. Especially if PoS is implemented only on the 600000th block.

Guldencoin is the best coin its accept @ 3 subways in the netherlands

Interesting. Why did they accept that coin? Are you sure the pictures are not from photoshop?

Thanks to go coin, more companies unrelated to cryptocurrencies are accepting Dogecoin everyday Smiley

yes yes. only one coin, just like everything else in life.

One Korea (best Korea), no other Korea
One type of Computer , no others
One operating system, no others
One article of cloth , no others
One Fiat , no others
One type of car , no others
One drink type , no others
One domestic pet, no others
One innovation . no others

If history has shown us anything is that humans only like one choice. flawless logic. absolutely not biased

 Cool

That's a great comparison!

And because altcoins offer to the users different communities, and technologies which fill different needs, it seems silly to say Bitcoin will be the only thriving crypto.
691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happening with DOGE? on: July 17, 2014, 12:51:51 PM
good to buy in bulk now, doge is not dead, but needs a Resurrection plan ahead, asap.

There is a long-term plan of implementing PoS in case the current system ends up being insecure.
Imho, a resurrection plan is not needed as there are plans in place so it won't die.

Is implementing PoS definitely going to happen, or s it just being discussed as an idea at the moment?

It's only discussed for now, but if PoW does get insecure, developpers seem quite willing to make the change.

Are there any spots available still? I'll become full member soon, that is when I would like to join here.

Thanks

This isn't like other campaigns, there is no "filling up", at least for now. Yes you can join.

Sweet! thanks.. I'll join when I become full member, I want the colored sig Smiley

You could start now with the member signature, and change to the full member signature when you'll have reached that rank. On August 17th, you'll be paid like if you had been full member for the whole month Smiley

Don't miss any mBTC, start now! Tongue
693  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dogecoin halving next week. Inflation cut by 50%. on: July 16, 2014, 01:46:26 PM
Doge price seems flat before this halving ..

I was hoping that it will drop to 25 or some .. but perhaps this will happen after halving Wink or ... or I am wrong and I will be happy even more.

For now I am waiting to see what will happen.

Not sure which way it will go. There's 90 BTC of doges who need to be bought before reaching 45 sat, but there's also 120 BTC ready to buy doges at 33 or higher. Wether it goes up or down, volume will most likely be huge Cheesy
694  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptostocks - BTC,DVC,LTC denominated Stock Exchange/Crowdfunding Platform on: July 16, 2014, 01:44:02 PM
How do you change email on Cryptostocks? Anyone???

I'm quite sure you can't :/
Someone asked that earlier in the thread, and was quite angry that he could not find a way to do it.
695  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Would it be better if I buy a asic scrypt miner or cloud mining? on: July 16, 2014, 01:42:56 PM
so the best solution for me is to buy and hold and sell when it going up ?

That would make the most financial sense. And buy back when it's going down, and never panic Wink

If you want to mine, it should be done because you care about a coin's security, as it is not a reasonable investment.
696  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why have you joined Bitcoin? on: July 16, 2014, 01:41:49 PM
I'm really curious about it. I'm also interested to know more about new technologies. And also I also like to trade using bitcoins.

It's a good way to learn how to trade, too. The exchange of assets and shares IRL has a huge barrier of entry, while you can easily start trading cryptocurrency even with a 5$ budget.
697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Deathblow to Proof of Stake on: July 16, 2014, 01:40:35 PM
if pos so good, why is litecoin still second. take that
You should know that price is not reflect the all situations,it is just a part for short time.
With time go,POS will give us exciting news.

ohh that makes sense.

why is nxt better than ppc?
I just list some difference ,but not want to offend PPCers.
1.NXT is first 100% POS with a brand new POS named TF(transparent forging)  .
2.NXT have no central checkpoint and no coin age design.
3.NXT have many features,such as Asset exchange,arbitrary message,Alias and some coming features,digital goods store,alias exchange,monetary system,and so on...

There are arguments in the other direction, too.

1- PPC has a better distribution because of PoW.
2- PPC is less centralized, because one team doesn't have control on the whole architecture, and it was not instamined.
3- The central checkpoint are actually a good thing for now, since PoS has not been definitely proven to be secure. Central checkpoints allows some additional security for that period before the devs are 100% confident that the coin will be secure without the checkpoins.
4- There's Peershares being developped, which is an asset exchange built in through the Peerunity wallet client.
698  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.7 Available on: July 16, 2014, 01:36:27 PM
Any news on Dogecoin future strategy to stay viable? ...

Do you know there is/was an active discussion about a major change to POS code instead of the current POW?
That is the biggest recent "news", unless I missed something bigger.
I am not convinced that changing to PoS is a winning strategy.
Dogecoin would no longer be a commodity asset and would go head to head with Ripple.

Imho, PoS would be better for the community, since all the new doges will actually go to dogecoin users, rather than random miners who instantly trade for other coins. I don't believe it would change in any way how dogecoin users uses their coin.
699  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting paid for signature space? on: July 16, 2014, 01:34:19 PM
It is very small amount of BTC. So i think if anyone wants to be a professional trader in this market signature space is not a good option.
Not really small. If you can post like 100 posts per month, 0.0004 per post, as a member, you would be spending your time we'll, considering you have a decent job.

Especially considering that an important amount of members on this forum come from India, or other countries where the minimum wage is quite lower than what it is in North America and Europe. That gives them a very good salary.
700  Other / Meta / Re: How do you upload a photo on bitcointalk.org???? on: July 16, 2014, 01:33:15 PM
It would be nice if we could upload a damn picture to our profile.
seriously i dont know how to add a picture in my account.. Sad

We won't see the avatar feature back before the new forum software...

If I recall correctly, there was an hacker last year which managed to abuse the forum by using avatars.
Not sure how that's possible, but they have been disabled since.
