Im waiting for a reply from the person who actually made this.

Surely if they know bitcoin, they must be a part of this community. Else it was a prank...

That would be quite a boring prank though, why would someone do that? They knew that a Bitcoin fan would come in that particular week and in that particular spot?
422  Other / Off-topic / Re: My favorit genre of Book on: August 09, 2014, 12:22:08 PM
The only books I read are "Where's Wally"

Hours of entertainment  Grin

That would go in the "Science-Fiction" category. He clearly has a teleporter and/or cloner, that's the only way he could be at so many different places in such a small timespan.
423  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ten Minute Delay vs POS on: August 09, 2014, 12:20:50 PM
When bitcoin is popular enough, there will be a few payment systems that will handle transactions off the blockchain. So, the average 10 minute block time will be irrelevant.

Won't we have the same problem that we have now with Paypal though; overpriced transaction fees because of too much middlemen?
424  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What should I do with over $4-5 worth in BTC? on: August 09, 2014, 12:19:44 PM
It's a currency just like the money in your pocket, do whatever you want.

A currency, which could appreciate by the time you decide to spend it.  Wink

Yeah but it could also go down, so that balances things Tongue
425  Other / Off-topic / Re: Did I just discover a lost civilization in the Yucatan? (Seriously!) on: August 09, 2014, 12:18:21 PM
You convinced me guys! I'm going to use Havelock to garner funding under the ticker symbol YUCA. Almost ready to send to them... Damn, already approved!

I'll wait a week after IPO to buy them. Since it Havelock, shares will already be at half-price by then Tongue
426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dogecoin STILL has the highest number of ACTIVE ADDRESSES of all the altcoins. on: August 09, 2014, 12:17:14 PM
Should i get some Doge's or not? i really don't know what alt coins to invest in

Don't invest in the Doge as Doge will be forked in upcoming days and market may move either way.

I believe there's more chance of the price going up. I mean, really, can it go any lower when it has been many weeks without a significant rebound?

And the spike in network security should convince a few people to invest.
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think there will ever come a day where crypto-currencies replace banks en on: August 09, 2014, 12:14:17 PM
That's just human nature and it affects banks too. If the goal of crypto currency is to make it more trustworthy than banks it has a chance of success. If it's just to make a quick buck, it won't. The thing is, banks are more motivated than developers because the money is centralized under them. They're (generally) vested in continuous improvement. A development team could get to a threshold higher than the banks but would they continue to be motivated on improving the system? Not unless they're paid.

However, there's a huge pool of developpers from all over the world who wouldn't mind giving a few hour to a project they deem worthy of it, such as Bitcoins. These thousands of people are, imho, better suited for maintaining an infrastructure than a handful of overpaid bank workers who only do it for the money, and not for conviction.

How long can ltc keeps it's head above water? Solong ltc. Was kinda nice knowing you

Not sure what's the purpose of this quote in this context. Would you care to explain?
429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Crypto-SS" Spoetnik Nazi Movement™ - eradicate Altcoins. on: August 09, 2014, 12:10:26 PM
Wow. Thankfully, he's very wrong about the fact that he has Goebbels and Hitler's charisma.

"Hitlers political party raised back up the economy"
Come on. He destoyed his country's economy by focusing every ressource on war and leaving the population with barely more than a roof over their head.
430  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Block Explorer do you use ? on: August 09, 2014, 12:05:39 PM
Blockchain.info is fine. When it's down, I simply input the address I want to see in google and browse the results.
431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why We Need All The Altcoins We Can Get on: August 09, 2014, 11:54:48 AM
I do not think we need 452 different coins, whats the point?  Is this just for miners to try to get rich? I dont get the point, I mean Bitcoin can supply the world , the more people use it the more it will increase meaning that you eventually you would not even need a full coin, in fact in future if you have 1 full coin your probably considered wealthy, As time goes the average amount that people have in their wallets will drop as the price rises, 100,000 mBTC  next year 50,000 mBTC year after 20,000 mBTC so and so on, Untill we may eventually need to create more decimals.

We really dont need so many currencies that do the exact same thing. I just do not see the point, I think the more crap there is around the more people think this is all a joke.

I don't want Bitcoin to become a monopoly; that would give too much power in the hands of very few people.

Altcoins are good for the distribution of wealth in the cryptocurrencies economy, plus they allow different communities who have different goals to have their own currency, especially when these goals are not in agreement of those of the majority of Bitcoin's community.
432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.7 Available on: August 09, 2014, 11:52:13 AM
Never give up mascot ^_^
Also hmm merge mining
http://www.coindesk.com/dogecoin-allow-litecoin-merge-mining/
Dogecoin to Allow Litecoin Merge Mining in Network Security Bid

The dogecoin development team has announced that it will soon enable auxiliary proof-of-work (AuxPoW), allowing merge-mining with litecoin that will address concerns over the altcoin’s future.

AuxPoW enables the dogecoin block chain to receive work from other scrypt-based networks. Dogecoin miners will still be able to generate blocks and receive DOGE, but now, litecoin miners will contribute hashing power to the dogecoin network.

Dogecoin really needs to reduce its inflation rate if adopting merge-mining. A lot more of the merge-mined coins will get dumped versus the solo-mined coins.

With a reduced inflation rate, the negative merge-mined consequences will hit Litecoin instead of Dogecoin . . . . so it will be Dogecoin miners dumping Litecoin . . . and Litecoin miners won't be getting that much Dogecoin to dump.

Merge-mining is a really smart move for Doge, but only if inflation is massively reduced at the same time. Otherwise, you're going to get dumped on.

While I agree that inflation should be reduced, it's worth noting that for the next few years Dogecoin's inflation will be lower than Litecoin's, so it's actually dogecoin miners who will profit the most from merge-mining by dumping their Litecoins.
433  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin ever reach $1000 dollars again? on: August 09, 2014, 11:49:54 AM

Some time in next few months we will see new highs next bubble is late already

That I agree. Bitcoin has been stable for too long. It's been a long time since the last crash.

It might still be too soon, though. Imho, inflation is still to high right now to sustain a price higher than 1000$. At that price, 3.6 million dollars of Bitcoins are produced everyday, with most of them dumped by big mining farms.

I don't think there are enough buyer to sustain that, especially since a few altcoins are popular at the moment.
434  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best signature campaign for "member" rank? on: August 09, 2014, 11:47:49 AM
Primedice's still seem the most worthwhile to me, since it can actually be trusted.

I'd rather have for sure an amount of mBTC, rather than a stranger's promise of the double of that amount.
435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: At what point (hash) is solo mining viable? on: August 09, 2014, 11:45:26 AM
It's plain useless.

It may be, but I would like to see what are the chances that a guy with ~160Th/s finds 3 blocks in 1 day http://bitsolo.net/pool-stats/

No matter how lucky a guy can be its still consider gamble unless you have 1 PH... Pool is the way!!!

However this gamble might be worth it, instead of simply mining a few dollars worth of coins in the machine's lifetime.
436  Other / Off-topic / Re: IF YOU HAD 1,000,000 DOLLARS WHAT WOULD YOU BUY??? on: August 09, 2014, 11:43:50 AM
I would donate it to this forum so it can build it's new software.

They have already received thousands of bitcoins in donation, I doubt your million would be the boost they need to get working on it Tongue
437  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: August 09, 2014, 11:42:47 AM
isn't gold very stagnant? why i should pick it, gold has no possibility to grow more imho

It is stagnant till the moment a new 2008 year comes around. Then it can double or triple in value and do it very fast... Cool

Then the Chinese would start unloading their massive stash of gold, and then they would ban it, so it would know the same crisis that BTC had a few months ago Cheesy
438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is mining even profitable anymore? on: August 09, 2014, 11:41:27 AM
Yes Smiley Cryptonote/Cryptonight is becoming pretty profitable because you can mine on cpu/gpu. If you have a rig try renting it out for other algorithm on ebay, betarigs or something similiar. Or you can always play videogames and post "letplays" on youtube (awesome!).

SSHH!!!

I prefer to make fake artist accounts on youtube and post their videos.  I have at least 100k views per video.  Easy money!!!

Dont youtube delete those fake artist video?

I had assumed that they reviewed a channel's videos before paying them? If they don't, it seems very easy indeed. Fake artist videos can stay a long time before they are deleted, and it usually takes a complaint from the publisher.
439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: August 09, 2014, 11:39:56 AM
Gridcoin is reaching out to the community to help determine the direction of the new wallet.  Please take some time to review the posts linked in the survey, form an opinion and help shape the future of Gridcoin.

https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/14049-urgent-gridcoin-economics-and-reward-structure-survey/

I love the "vintage hacker" visual style of the wallet, no other cryptocurrency wallet looks like that. I hope this won't change too much  Smiley

Been gone for a while and why should I not have been?
Weren't you banned?
Why would he be banned? He's a reasonable member and reputable member of this board. He offers his insight on many things and also he looks like a pirate. Is there anything wrong with that?
Isn't it time that the State of New York issued regulations on this thread, to prevent non-questions and multiple questions from jeopardizing people's humor and soiling the image of bitcoin as a reliable source of jiggles and laughs?

Indeed, surely people from all over the world wouldn't mind abiding to a few invasive measures if it's for the protection of the status quo of the honourable city of New York?
