1501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Raspberry Pi 2 Node on: January 30, 2016, 09:19:54 PM
Is it possible to attach a screen to the Pi 2 and have it run information like the bitnodes hardware did? Their LCD code is here, how would one use this to have information being presented on screen?
1502  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Setting up armory on windows 10 on: January 30, 2016, 08:22:44 PM
Your next move should be waiting until it finishes syncing.

BTW, there's an Armory sub-forum.
1503  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: January 30, 2016, 08:15:45 PM
Can anyone help me telling how to create a vanity address for altcoins?
Since each alt-coin has its own first character, there are some random prefix needed to enter.

For example;

vanitygen64.exe -X 48 LTC - Litecoin

vanitygen64.exe -X 55 -k PWn3d - Peercoin

vanitygen64.exe -X 30 -o hole.txt DBone - Dogecoin

vanitygen64.exe -X 71 -i Vertical - Vertcoin

So how do I calculate these random prefix?

http://btpp.jampa.eu/get_coin_version/?address=

Add an address of the coin you wish to calculate the prefix's Base58 in front of address= on that link and you have the coin version number.

1505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ...and THIS is why I prefer to use Bitcoin. on: January 29, 2016, 11:08:28 PM
I don't really get it what happened after reading the article, did they have an exploit on their POS systems? Chip readers? Or do their equipments store sensitive information and were hacked?

And yes, Bitcoin would definitely solve this issue...

Theoretically, Bitcoin would be capable of solving the issue, but the fact of the matter is is that Bitcoin is not functionally capable of handling "fast"food transactions at all.  Think about it for a second.  There's been a constant debate about the block size and whether it should be bigger because blocks are being maxed out with more and more transactions going into each block, and that's just with us nerds.  Think about what would happen to the blocks if just one Wendy's location started accepting Bitcoin for payments during a lunch rush.  NO ONE would be able to get their transactions confirmed and it would take forever for Wendy's to be able to verify if the transaction went through or not... which would absolutely hurt their business.

This is one of the main reasons that major business and restaurants won't accept Bitcoin (at least the ones who have heard about Bitcoin and relatively understand the concepts behind it).

I was referring only to the aspect of private keys on the restaurant's side. That's not possible unless you explicitly give them the private key. However, ATM cards can be copied and passcodes retrieved.

As for the rest, yes, Bitcoin is not ready for prime time like that (not ready for Visa-like amount of TPS).

Despite that it would require some effort to double spend a transaction Cheesy

Well didn't expect this to be any good but it's actually quite informative and also funny Smiley

1508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Estranged Core Developer Gavin Andresen Finally Makes Sensible 2MB BIP Proposal! on: January 29, 2016, 06:53:46 PM
This is not new. It's just an improvement on previously disclosed ideas, which is pretty much what everyone is doing.

I guess pretty much all devs know where they want to go and have their plans more or less straight after all the discussions a few months back. Now it's just about who delivers the best product, faster.
1509  Other / Meta / Re: IOS Version of bitcointalk avaiable or not ? on: January 28, 2016, 03:41:59 PM
If you're talking about mobile applications, there are no official ones. You can access the forum via a browser the same way as you would from a computer/laptop though.

Bitcointalk works best already in any mobile browser so I don't think an app is necessary.  Btw, there is no app but it is compatible to any devices.

One definitely cannot access bitcointalk on mobile the same way he does on a computer. And it's definitely not compatible with all devices

Bitcointalk is definitely not suited for any mobile browser, either on iOS or Android. Definitely not the same experience on mobile in terms of ease of use.

Why think of the IOS version of Bitcointalk.

Open your native browser or any browser of your choice then access bitcointalk.org there.

This forum is light so even with an average connection, loading time is fast.

The issue isn't loading times.

I share OP's concerns, I hope the new forum is mobile friendly. OP, I guess we'll just have to wait Smiley
1510  Economy / Goods / Re: iPhone 6s 64GB NEW Lottery 0,10 BTC Invest SHIPPING EU ESCROW on: January 28, 2016, 03:34:20 PM
Could you translate the lottery conditions to English? Google Translate isn't being very helpful.

Also, I don't see any confirmation on the thread from the escrow provider...
1511  Economy / Exchanges / Re: This account is locked due to 6 months of inactivity (but I know my login & pass on: January 27, 2016, 10:56:03 PM
I have a lot of coins inside (not BTC LTC Dash) and just want to withdraw them

You're probably out of luck anyways. Withdrawals have been stopped and are severely crippled at the moment. You can see a list of coins you can withdraw on Cryptsy's blog
1512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi can't be just one... on: January 27, 2016, 10:47:33 PM
A blockchain can easily be run with just one person, just look at altcoins... From everything we know er're led to believe that Satoshi was only one individual, but we can be wrong.
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Donald Trump made comments on bitcoin? on: January 27, 2016, 01:52:01 PM
The way he is he would just say Bitcoin is hocus pocus and a product of internet's imagination... I am yet to see a (serious) topic where he actually has a valid opinion
1514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we earn bitcoin by Torrent seeding ? on: January 26, 2016, 07:28:46 PM
Since this thread was bumped, for anyone that comes across it: Joystream is still working with testnet coins only.

Yea, the legal issues with piracy are going be a huge hill to climb, before they would be able to go live with this. I doubt if this is ever going to go off the

ground. The anti-piracy organizations are going to have a field day with this, once people start accepting payment for seeded content. There is a huge

difference between sharing copyrighted material and sharing it for payment. I would be very careful, if I were you.  Roll Eyes

Joystream developers have nothing to do with what content their users seed. It's the same old story... People kill people, guns don't kill people and I am yet to see any weapon maker being sued or fined because they sell weapons that feed wars. If we allow weaponary companies to operate and metal extraction for weapon creation, we must allow the Joystream team to develop their software.

When anti-piracy organizations start having their "field days" with this issue, they should direct themselves to users that misuse the application, not the developers. Just like ISP's shouldn't be sued because users use their connections to download pirated content.

Seeding a Linux distro isn't a crime. Many have official torrents. Maintaining mirrors for distros requires time and money. By outsourcing iso distribution to torrents, distro developers and mirrors are effectively saving money on bandwidth and providing users with something that might even be a faster service for downloading their software. By having paid downloads more users have an incentive to seed while the impact of charging a few bitcents to downloaders to get their distro isn't that much of a hassle (people who don't want to donate can still download through a mirror or any other slower methods).

So, in short: downloader pays a few bitcents, distributed by all seeds and downloads distro at full speed. Seeders get some compensation for their efforts. Developers do not need to deploy servers and https mirrors. Universities who donate their servers for distro downloads can start using torrents to and get some revenue and cut down on bandwidth usage.

Seeding supposed to be something you do because you want to, not because you want earn money.

This is something very generous, but rarely seen in torrents. People need an incentive, which isn't bad because they're doing something that comes out of their pocket. Like I've read once "seeding in a public tracker is like fucking for virginity"... And we all know seedboxes exist, and you'd have to be crazy to use them without having anything in exchange.

I think if Joystream successful in future, piracy will be treated as something evil & it could restrict our freedom.

I wish Joystream huge success. I'd be very grateful to receive a few bitcents if someone wanted to download any distro I'm seeding. I'd probably even find a way to do it 24/7 if i got some coins out of it. I'd be very grateful and happy if Joystream caused a shift in this paradigm and a change in the way people think and see content distribution online, too.

I definitely wouldn't like to use this service and have development come to a halt just because people use the software in a way that is perceived to be wrong.

i just know about this site, joystream.co and i think anyone with spare bandwith can use JoyStream and earn Bitcoin, at what ever price they choose, in exchange for seeding to peers.
How to start and how much can you earn by this seeding?
Who have experience with that? Is it safe for using?

As I've said a few posts back, they're still using testnet.
1515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would be Satoshi's opinion on blocksize shills ? on: January 26, 2016, 06:59:19 PM

Satoshi's opinion is irrelevant, I think.
1516  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: iOS Bread Wallet on: January 26, 2016, 02:19:03 PM
This is the best cold storage app available for IOS. Use this one on mine mobile phone. Hope they keep improving this nice wallet.

Do you have an iDevice specifically offline for cold storage?

You can also generate a wallet, write down the recovery phrase and initial receive address, and then choose "start/recover another wallet" to remove it from the device.

While having your device in flight mode Smiley

I personally wouldn't do that unless I restored my iDevice, configured it as a new device, created the wallet, restored it again and kept using it, and I think that's just too much of a hassle to create a seed. There are quicker and equally safe (or even safer) ways to do it. And yes, I'm that paranoid Wink

1517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How in bitcoind to spend unconfirmed transaction? on: January 26, 2016, 02:13:25 PM
Yes, you'll have to create a raw transaction. And as far as I can see you have to give extra parameters to signrawtransaction for it to know you're spending unconfirmed inputs.
1518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Sky is falling. Increase to 1.337 MB needed. Consensus today, deploy tomorrow on: January 26, 2016, 02:07:55 PM
If you, or "Satoshi" have a real proposal to post on this sub-forum like many other members who post valuable threads, feel free to do so.
1519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much decentralization is "enough?" on: January 26, 2016, 02:02:24 PM
Decentralization is never "enough" in a world where ASIC's develop really quickly and there are a lot of people who already own a huge chunk of hash power that can buy the newest chips on the market.

You'd achieve nothing by reducing the blocksize in half right now. All of the blockchain behind would take up exactly the same hard drive space and you'd further constrict something that's already starting to be too small.
