Side note, I posted a 4TB SAS Western Digital RE HDD for sale on the marketplace. I realize that 135 dollars in BURST is a lot right now, so I'll accept BTC or XMR too.

BURST-79PK-DGC2-M4XP-HUAVB - my account

and if someone in this community wants it, I'll definitely negotiate on the price. I'm not 100% sure what it is actually worth at the moment.

Thanks!

Bitladen asset?  Shocked Crowetic are You reading what You are proposing?  Huh Giving money to wannabe 51% attacker to expand portion of mining volume he is controlling right now? Yeah, sure...  Tongue
I'm switching to solo-mining just to prevent this "greedynitis" spread to pool owners...

its all about money and if people until now didnt realise that also crow is here for the money, at least now it should be clear. but that is nothing that you can blame anybody for.

Not that I am complaining, mind you... but in crow's defense, isn't that why we're all here?
We're all here to make 'something'.

Call it whatever you like, but all cryptos are an 'investment' into {Place your noun here}.

@boba

I've paid out WAY more than I've made with BURST. To be clear.

Also, I continue to pay out even though I have to pay for my pool host with my own money, and the pool fee goes ENTIRELY to my asset, along with a 30TB miner. While your asset pays HALF your pool fee and no miner. Tell me who cares more about money.

Also, wasn't it you that said when BURST went below 100sat that you'd sell and be gone? Oh wait, maybe that was in core team chat.

I resent being called greedy when I've done nothing but positive work for the coin, and facilitated development of the most popular pool, from the ground up. Setup one of the most solid and best assets, and promoted the hell out of the coin on my own dollar.

I would think everyone should see this. My feelings on your post would be that you're still upset with me for calling things as I saw them with your little 'vacation' and stunt you pulled with your asset.

I hold true to what I said then on how I feel about that. I still think what was done was at best shady. I contacted you multiple times with over a week between in most cases before bringing it public. To give benefit of the doubt to you. During these contacts, the sell that pushed me over the edge as far as viewing the situation as scammy behaviour happened. Now riddle me this... if you had net access to post this sell, wouldn't you have had net access to reply to one of my contact attempts?

So please, let us just agree to disagree on the 'methods' you used at that time, and agree that we don't like eachother, and let it be huh? I don't want any more negativity in this thread if possible, and actually, I am hoping the community can come to at least enough of an agreement so that I can start a new OP and we can get off this thread completely.

IMO the thread as it is doesn't leave BURST looking professional, and my goal is to professionalize it with many different projects, including ByteEnterprises, which I have a new direction for in the coming weeks.

Agree with my choice in people I think are okay and the ones I don't, or not... I think we should at least agree on the above mentioned thoughts on how to handle our personal situation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@community

Everyone here who has seen all that I've worked to accomplish from the beginning of BURST, should know by now that I want this coin to succeed. My recent suggestions for change were based on things I've seen with this coin and others, and what I believe based on conversation with many people. I don't immediately agree with someone in any situation, ever, and I never will.

I have my own mind regardless of my agreement with someone. This should really be shown duly by the fact that I'm not afraid to say that I consider bitladen a friend. I can see how a lot of you would not feel that way, but this isn't based on only public communication as most likely your decisions are.

I will never go with something just because other people do, and I will also try my best to get more agreement than not before making a decision if it is a situation where I maintain control.

I see the both sides of most arguments, and can easily argue on either, it is just a natrual part of my personality type (which is not a very common type.) So I can see how some people may see me as 'crazy' or whatever they may in certain situations. However, I assure you, I am not crazy.

I'm probably one of the most considerate 'leader' types you will ever come across. I love to get everyone else's full opinions on situations and why they feel that way before coming to a conclusion of my own. Sometimes my conclusion will coincide, and sometimes it will not, but that's just how things go.

What I'm trying to say here, is I have always, and will always, wish a prosperous future for BURST, and I will definitely be a part of it. That is not to say that I may not also want to be in a similar position in a clone if it comes about, as I do believe it is mainly the underlying technology that is most important in the coin, and obviously a clone would contain that as well. The rest of the structure is debatable as far as the outcome (obviously, as most things, especially market type stuff, and more especially crypto/altcoin markets.) They could both very well succeed, and also the measure of success is different for everyone, and the length of time it takes to get there will also vary.

Most everything has so many possible outcomes, and arguments for and against them, contemplating large decisions in things we all love and hope to be successful could take a while and shouldn't be done in a hasty manner.

We shall see how things unfold and what is or isn't in the future, when we get there.

Thanks everyone, and a prosperous future to BURST, all of its futuristic technological power, and for sure the algorithm we know to be the true decentralized power efficient future of true mining... PoC.

That's all for now. Tongue

Did you forget to read the part that this would also include bit agreeing to revoke his 'threat' and no longer be someone we'd have to worry about attacking the network? Is this not a good thing?

I am not sure what you are trying to utter here!

Can you tell us clear what you agree/disagree and why?
I am not sure why switching to solo-mining would be an advantage. Can you explain that too, please?

Suppose bitladen manages to threat or lure a pool into participating in a 51% attack.  Then all the miners in the pool participate even though they don't want to see the coin destroyed. Especially the miners that mine and keep burst are royally screwed.

on the other hand, if they go solo (or go to a pool they expect not willing to participate) , they mine against the attacker.

Just so that everyone knows, my original statement holds true. My pool will never participate in an attack against the BURST network. Regardless of my friendship with anyone.

Anyone who knows me, also knows that I am true to my word.

I haven't officially started anything yet, wanted to get a gauge on reaction from people.

I would be the one putting the asset out, the point of doing an initial release as something small, would be both to do a small intro in case of failure, and to see how things go overall. I would make sure that if it were something I put my name on, it would be something I would be able to bail out in case of a bad outcome.

yes, boba, this means that it would be ME that would fix the problem should one arise. I'm far from anonymous.

But I don't think bit would screw me. I know how most of you feel about him, but I don't feel that way.

What I AM sure about, is people in the crypto community wanting everything done immediately, and not wanting to contribute anything towards helping make that happen.

I on the other hand, spoke with Adam, asked him if he needed any help. Did anyone else do this? I didn't think so.

I swear, this crypto community makes us all look bad most of the time. All either sitting with a coin and doing nothing expecting to become a millionaire, or scamming people.

is crypto not open source? Are open source projects ones that people can't just help with? Gimme a break. If you think something is going in a direction you don't like, what are you gonna do? Yell? Why don't you consider asking if they could use some help?

I see this a lot lately. And by that I mean that coins get launched while promising features and revenue prospects for investors and then get stalled soon after. If the projects were upfront about the need for community taking responsibility in moving the project forward after the launch no one would be able to complain. But then again, not many would invest either.

That isn't really my point, what I'm saying is if you're not happy with how fast things are going, ask if you can do something to help. Don't sit there and complain.

how can investors cashout?

The asset pays weekly, there will be no buy wall as this is a mining asset, the only way we would need to buy it back is if the mining unexpectedly failed. The way you would cash out aside from getting your money back letting the asset mine, would be to trade it.
1329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.3 Fork block 92000 on: September 11, 2015, 04:06:54 PM
Alright, upon some more thinking and speaking with bit, he has decided a few things...

1. He will offer an asset based on part of his mining power. It will start with a small release, and there will be more in the future if the small release works as planned.

2. If this release is something that is accepted by the community, as a BURST asset, and an attempt to show good faith, and be in agreement with what many of the people that are against his ideas say... this will be something that both shows that bit actually DOES care about the coin, and give something to the community. This will give another asset to invest in on the network that is backed by an obviously large mining setup.

3. If there is no further bashing of him and this asset is taken as what it actually is, and not slandered by the community members that continue to be against him, and the negativity stops, he too will remove his threat of an attack on the network, and will continue to release small packages of his assets until he sells up to 40% of his mining power.

I believe this would work out for everyone involved. I will be the one to start the asset and manage it. Here are the details... we can modify them, but this is the initial idea...

First Release - a small release of 50TB equivalent power (the power will be based on an average of bit's total power divided by the amount sold. Bear in mind he is a solo miner, so he doesn't pay pool fees, etc. The power will be 100% of the mining reward ((for the first 6 months.)) After the first 6 months, the asset will begin charging a 10% maintenance fee. The asset is lifetime* which in this particular situation we're going to define like this... lifetime means, this asset will run for a guaranteed time of a year. As long as there are no physical issues with hardware, the asset will continue as long as it can. The guaranteed run time is a year, but it is highly likely given that BURST doesn't cause damage to hardware, that it will run MUCH longer.

crowetic, trusted long-term team and community member who has done a lot of work regarding BURST, will be the one to setup the assets based on how much hashpower (space) bit would like to sell at that time, and manage the asset's initial sales. Payouts would happen either weekly or monthly, that is currently up for discussion.

calculations are going to be based on bit's total mining capacity which is 1.7PB+ and will be increasing, divided by how much power the asset is worth. No fees will be included for the first 6 months of the asset release. Since assets cannot be setup in a monthly way, the first 6 months will stay the first 6 months, regardless of when you purchase the asset. Meaning, the people who get in quicker upon asset release, will benefit more from the first 6 months without fees.

After the initial 6 month time, 10% of the asset payouts will be withheld as a maintenance fee. This will continue until the guaranteed year is over, at which point the maintenance fee is up for renegotiation. it is likely that the fees will go up after the first year to accommodate for hard drive's given natural decline in function, and allowing the asset to be renewable. it is likely that the 10% will go to 15 or 20 at year 1 mark, and after that every 6 months will go up another 5%.

The overall goal here is to unite the community in the main goal to make BURST more popular and valuable. The release of assets was mentioned as a great idea to do this, and thus bit and I have discussed this asset to begin to prove to the community that he is not against the coin.

I would like to see the initial reactions about this, but I believe it is a great idea, and truly hope it makes the community and bit stop fighting with eachother and causes the 51% threat to be willingly removed.
1330  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.3 Fork block 92000 on: September 11, 2015, 02:15:11 AM
I like the company idea, but wouldn't we end up in pretty close to the same situation with the need for investors?

You need to convince investors that the company will make money down the line.
If the investors can buy BTC and not really have to fiddle with BURST, you have a somewhat larger audience, however their asset holdings should probably be registered in the BURST chain,so an investor would need help to have a wallet established with a secure password that has not been leaked. ( or a thief could move the assets off the account )

The great thing about the company is that the company is seperate from the core dev group. The core dev group can still make sure BURST is stable and true to whatever the larger group of users want. The company owners can speed up development of services and whatever BURST stuff is needed to establish such services, and make money off the products. Company could also run mining pools or websites related to burst, if the company thinks such websites could be profitable, or somehow raise the burst price enough to warrant development.

Suppose the company developed file storage in burstcoin.  The dev team would then still have the final say about if and when the file storage stuff is relased in burstcoin, but the feature is done, and the company will be first in line to profit off such a feature, as the company has the best tech insight, and have had time to develop ways to profit from the new infrastructure. The company might release a file storage mining pool close to day 1, and offer to lease the source for the pool to other people who want to own a file storage pool. revenues from FS pool and lease to others could then over time generate a nice ROI of the company money spent on software development.

Suppose the company developed coin anonymization support in BURST.  as soon as the new version was released, the company would have a website ready and be marketing it to users. Company would have a head start with the stuff it sponsors, as it has the knowledge and of course it might have had influence on the feature set so that the capabilities match well with company needs.

With a good story, and with marketing both inside and outside burst community, you might have an easy sell.

Basically, funding a company that will drive development of services and products that utilize BURST, a company dedicated to grow and make money by being first mover in new technologies. Opportunity for shareholders to get in at a low price, in a company that could be a major player in select areas like encrypted anonymouse file storage, areas like crypto finance, areas like automated transactions - bleeding edge stuff..

The more I think about it, the more I like it, and I would very much enjoy setting up and running something like this. There would be need for initial investment for promotion and I could do as much twitter and forum promotion in various areas of this forum to promote it.

Do you think this would have to be another separate company completely? Or could I wrap it together as part of my existing company something like I did with ByteEnterprises?

The whole thing I keep thinking about though, is the idea that we'd still be in need of investors, however, it shouldn't be THAT hard to find people who'd be more willing to invest in a company than a particular coin, even if that company is working almost solely for that particular coin's technology. The company wouldn't necessarily be fully limited to that coin either. If there WERE a clone that came out, said company would be most likely interested in that as well, as the technology would be available there as well.

very interesting. I wonder if this could be something I could make happen.

One thing though, is that the stuff we're working with is open source, so what would keep others from just ripping off the ideas we paid to have developed and doing it themselves? Not quite the same as the company you formed for the idea you mentioned.

Crowetic,

I don't speak much... I just hang out as a lurker keeping an eye on all things crypto.
You know I have been at this since nearly day one with you and a few others... Iron comes to mind.

You have my full support... and I have full confidence that you, along with the others who are serious about this coin, will lead it back to stability.
Just needed to be said.

Monster Burst supporter now fading back into the background!

Thanks bro, I appreciate that. I can only promise I won't make rash decisions and that I'll do whatever I can for the betterment of the coin, including promotion and writing, and communication with any person that we feel could assist in one way or another. Eventually I'll learn to code and I can assist in that aspect as well.

I've given a lot of time to this coin, and I will continue to do so. Smiley

Thanks again, with all the stuff going on lately, that was certainly nice to hear. xD
1333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.3 Fork block 92000 on: September 10, 2015, 10:44:59 PM
I'd like to add my comments to the discussion on burst.

I've not been very active on here so I'll start by saying a little about myself.

I have been mining burst for quite a while. Not from the very beginning but from a few weeks after it started. I am only mining with disks that were laying around unused at home. I have not sold any coins since October last year so I am holding a decent amount. I am mining solo but I have mined on devs v1 and v2 pools. My miners are all running on fedora but I have mined in the past on XP and w7. I am a professional sw engineer and I have been writing code since the sixties.

OK, that is me, this is what I have to say:

We should not change the way in which block rewards are allocated. We all knew what the rewards were when we started out and we accepted that but there is a stronger reason than just that. If an outsider looks at the coin, what will they think if the elite few running the coin feel that it is OK to change something that basic just one year in? It does not look like the trustworthy foundation that is needed. The same goes for the idea of a dev fund. The coin's elite just arbitrarily saying that they will have ten percent off the top because they want it? What might they do next? This will deter newcomers to the coin whether they are miners, investors or developers.

We should not be looking for some fairy godmother lead developer. First of all as crowetic discovered, somebody like that is hard to find. Furthermore, the coin would then be hostage to that new lead dev's personal situation and wishes. The existing team should work to build a group of devs who can all put in a little time and the core team should work hard to attract and encourage such people.

Some months ago, I made a post on here about using burst as a storage network. Burst is better than the other coins that are trying to do this. We have miners with lots of storage who could repurpose their disk space between plots and storage as the market required. We also have a coin with ATs which could be used to govern the storage contracts. We could use them to make sure not only that clients can pay for storage and that disk farmers can be rewarded but also to ensure that neither party can carry out a "nothing at stake" attack. In my earlier post, I offered to pitch in with development effort to help set that up but none of the coin's core team responded. My offer is still open and I would suggest to the core team that they should consider that and any other offers.

@Irontiga: I believe that you are in godzone. If you are in Ak, perhaps we could meet and chat and if you think that I can help out, you can talk to the rest of the core team.

I would propose the following as action items for the short term:

1) Try to recruit developers who will commit a few hours of their time as and when they can. Create some kind of on-boarding process for these volunteers such as getting the sources off github, making some trivial change and rebuilding all of the files that would make up a release. Just to check that they have the basic technical ability to contribute. Then establish a set of procedures for code reviews before changes to the burst software are accepted. Document that whole process.

2) Build a set of unit tests. We need these if we are going to have a number of devs working on different parts of the code. Any dev who wants to get involved should start there. It's not going to add features but it will make it a lot easier and safer to roll out new features in the future.

3) Setup a group to thrash out a roadmap of new features that will be implemented by the new dev-team over the next 12 months.

4) Perform a review of burst's POC algorithms. I understand that the security of these has been questioned so we should address that. I have a fair understanding of cryptography and I have access to people who work at the bleeding edge in that field so I can help there.

5) Lighten up on the abuse. Name calling and the use of disrespectful miss-spellings of folk's usernames should stop. It does not make the coin any better and it does not make people look any better if they do it.

I have not written anything about PR or white-papers but if we got through the five points above we would have lots to tell the world about and most of what we would need for a white-paper would have been sorted out.

That's it.

Thank you for the comments, but I disagree on the modification comment. We noticed, that after a year, the reward decrease happened too fast for what else was going on in the coin. The ability to modify it a little, and make it be able to work out better over an extended period of time would be the goal here, while allowing miners to have either more profit if they dump, or more long term profit if they don't.

Also, the tax wouldn't go to a single person, and discussions would happen with the community as far as ideas on how to spend the money, multi-sig held, etc. Maybe even an AT controlled account. There are many ways we can setup this type of thing.

The idea of an open community development project makes a lot of sense as it IS open source afterall, so that is what we're going to do at this very point in time, people can clone the git, make their suggested changes, and post for approval, then we can implement into a new main git when a few coders have approved it and it all looks good to go.

I would love a review of the algo. Please do this if you can.

Also, get as many devs as you can, greatly appreciated, then if we want to go back to a core team style development, we can do that. But for now, with all the reactions I got when suggesting the structure I did, open community development is where we will be until something better comes along.
1334  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.3 Fork block 92000 on: September 10, 2015, 09:22:20 PM
community development is the obvious choice for an open source project. I never assumed it wasn't community developed. it just happened there was only one dev. but by all means, everybody should contribute.

Great, then can we implement the reward changes and start working on the market?

Also, I sent a message to the dev for SIA to see if they'd be interested in integrating their storage and our mining style. If he gets back to me, I'll need a developer to speak with him.

I suppose it is now obvious that the suggestions I've made as far as appointing a new main dev are not going to be accepted.

Since this is the case, what is the suggestion from anyone else? We open it up for community development? Okay, in theory... but will it actually happen? I'm doubtful.

We try to find another dev willing to literally pay to work and hope their work raises the coin's value?

We continue on without any updates?

What?

I'm not sure, since all my ideas are shut down by everyone. Maybe everyone should help me with the big issues here...

Everything is perfect, BURST never needs anymore updates ever?

We wait for main dev and hope he returns from wherever he went without even telling anyone?

I had someone willing to take over, but the community isn't willing to either help fund the team nor give ideas and a way to carry them out regarding the central development.

what now? seriously...

C`mon guys i cant believe nobody added this coin yet to Yobit:

https://yobit.net/en/addcoin/

Guys add the coin to yobit so that I can buy some. I`m waiting here for like 1 month to buy some.

but i cant understand one thing here, why if you want to buy burst, you don't use one of the current exchanges where we are?

Because I dont want to have like 1000 exchange accounts. I am usng Yobit and i would like to buy some BURST ffs.

Please guys add it to yobit, i see you guys need some investors, man there are tons of traders there who would pump the price up to 100 satoshi!!!

Just add it to Yobit and all problems will be solved!!

Lol c`mon guys, is it so fucking hard to just add it to Yobit, it would help your currency.

It takes 5 minutes to fill out the form. Seriously WTF guys, please dont be lazy!  Cheesy Cheesy

And why can't you spend those damn 5 min.? Laziness...?

No because i have no idea of this coin, you have to fill out some tech specifications there, and i have no clue about this coin whatsoever.

It is the devs that are lazy, this coin needs to be on all exchanges, including where I trade usually at Yobit.

So please somebody add it!

As you can see man, we're sorta a little bit low on people, and in the middle of deciding things that are more important than getting on another exchange right now. Not to mention, if the changes ARE made, the exchanges will need to update anyway, so there's no point in even trying until after we make decisions.

thanks.

I think I'm going to put up a poll in burst forum to see how many people think everything is perfect with the current reward and decline structure....

it is definitely too fast, and I think because it was too fast to begin with, we need to adjust the rewards in order to 'refresh' the system.

people don't want an unlimited supply, fine. But we still need to kinda take a step 'back' if you will, and start again with the tools we now have in place.

with a dev fund we can pay for everything without donations and the community will start seeing much more as far as direct results.

Okay, what if we make the following modifications...

1. The cap stays, but coins are added to its total.

2. Rewards are still raised, and decline in reward is lowered. Reward goes to 15k/block now, and reward decline changes to match bitcoin's halving times, by going to 1.455% per month.

3. Transaction fees go up too, minimum goes to 2 or more BURST per transaction, until we believe we can lower it again when there are many more transactions in the network.

This gives incentive for miners to jump back in now and make network bigger again, during this we work our asses off and get the market mods done, mixer AT integrated, etc. Make the market browser better with categories and searchable, etc. Hire a PR company to promote the decentralized market, and get many more users to it.

Get more assets up and running, and work hard to get investors at the same time.

Nice, but some devfund most be established to cover expenses. I think it makes sense that a small part of each block should be devoted to this. Not anywhere near 10% but some.

Fees can also be made relative to the sum sent: Are you sending large amounts, it's not unreasonable with higher fees.

Right, I did forget that part, there will still be a dev fund, and I think 10% is fair, but we can go lower, maybe 8? But it isn't just a dev fund, you can think of it as a future promo, development and just an overall futures fund for the coin...

It will allow us to HIRE devs to do whatever we need, hire graphic designers, whatever the coin needs! I don't see why everyone expects the few members who already put a ton of work into everything to pay for all of this out of their pockets as well, I'm a fairly large miner and I would have absolutely no issue with this percentage going to further the coin.

Then when we can get our p2p voting system implemented, the people with more coin can have more power in helping to decide how that money is spent. So it isn't like there will be an overlord who will decide everything. There will be voting and we will all make decisions, and of course, the ones with a larger stake and thus more invested into the coin will have more of a say. I feel this is ultimately extremely fair.

if i remeber correctly the current settings for the reward decline are halving every 14 month which is about 3.42 times as fast as bitcoin.
beside structural adjustments to the protocol itself adding additional supply will first be required at some point after people pay for services in BURST.

required structural changes are checkpoints and new transaction types which won't be stored forever in the blockchain.
today you can freeze the whole network with 92k burst per day simply because a block can only contain 255 transactions.
increasing the fees would limit new services since the fees may get higher than the payment you buy a service with.

a variable i could deal with would be to lower the blocktime and double this way the possible rewards since there are still many many blocks mined every day within less than a minute (last 360 blocks 127).
this is why the calculation for the basetarget requires adjustments (posted as comment into the google docs burst reborn - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Xk23cNYy1BfV5DNto5FjG-3l1VUDFXETAqHbeyK7rX4)

These checkpoints were pointed out to me by bitladen as well, and he said he would add them if he was appointed dev.

besides exchanges, is there any where I can spent my burst for goods?

BURST has a built in marketplace. http://burstcoin.info/market which we're hoping to make much more user friendly here soon. (Want to make categories, allow for pictures or links to pictures, auto open in wallet, things like that.)

For now you find what you want there, copy the user's BURST account, add them in your wallet, and you can buy their items.

There are also assets you can purchase that are built into BURST's asset exchange.

ByteEnt is my asset https://block.burstcoin.info/as.php?as=1800253871016293364

and another good one is INCOIME... https://block.burstcoin.info/as.php?as=11188744773544606055
