2141  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin plunges 17% after Elon Musk tweets on not accepting cryptocurrency on: May 15, 2021, 09:17:47 PM
Elon Musk is kinda like Trump with his twitter feed. Seems slightly unhinged at times. No sense in making comparisons to the electricity used with BTC and the modern banking system. We are suppose to adopt a meme currency or a trash alt coin because there is a less electricity dependency? Ha, Musk worshippers will believe it, I'm sure.

Also Tesla makes rubbish cars.

Enjoy - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lawsuits_involving_Tesla,_Inc.
Actually it does have some connection.

"Tesla's cars is spurred by modern design, innovative technology, and high performance that makes the cars a "green energy" favorite"
Source

So they would really be connecting in terms of environmental but i would say that this is just bullshit connection .

That's the obvious pitch of course. Green car company, surely Elon is ditching Bitcoin because he cares so much for the environment? He worked for the US government under the Trump admin. as an advisor, and then left when the US did not join the Paris Climate Accord -- It's all about the environment for Elon except when it comes to modern financial institutions which cause havoc on the environment.

I want to know who is dumb enough to buy into this argument. As if he didn't know the energy demand of Bitcoin prior to him doing a pump and dump?
2142  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is AstraZeneca vaccine: safe or not safe? on: May 15, 2021, 08:58:07 PM
Of the vaccines for Covid that are available (except for the Chinese and Russian vaccines) the  AstraZeneca is the one that raises the most concerns. If I had the choice between getting the AstraZeneca vaccine and getting no vaccine, I would take the AstraZeneca vaccine. If I had a choice between AstraZeneca and another vaccine, I would get the other vaccine.

Denmark may have just banned the AstraZeneca vaccine just to be on the safer side, not that there was any substantive evidence that the vaccine might have been dangerous.

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)00762-5/fulltext

Quote
The Danish data provided here cannot rule out the possibility that some venous thromboembolic events reported in relation to the use of the Oxford–AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine are caused by the vaccine. However, although affected by several limitations, these data suggest that the reported number of thromboembolic events among Europeans who have received the Oxford–AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine (at least those reported as deriving from the venous system) does not seem to be increased relative to the expected number estimated from incidence rates from the entire Danish population before the introduction of the vaccination programme.

Basically, there was just a *minor* bump in the amount of blood clots reported in Denmark, and they really couldn't find any way that the vaccine conclusively caused the blood clots, so they banned it just to be safe. I get you said you would take the AstraZeneca vaccine if given no choice, but to anyone thinking about taking the vaccine and avoiding AstraZeneca, the chances are very very low you'll get some adverse affect.

Start an altcoin to propagandize the world about something you believe in. You can do it with your home computer. If it's good enough, and if you are smart about it, it might take off and make you into a $millionaire.

Cool

No need. Just make a meme coin in 2 hours like the doge coin creator, and then hope a billionaire latches onto the idea, posts about it on twitter, and then wait until a bunch of naive crypto investors (usually within the age range of 20-30) pour all their money into it while shouting "to the moon!"

...

If you get vaccinated, why does it matter if some other idiot doesn't want to get vaccinated and doesn't wear a mask? The vaccine is over 95 percent effective, and the chance you die of COVID after the vaccine is less than 0.01 percent. If you get COVID after the vaccination, your body has a much better chance at fighting the disease.

So yes, people in America are probably dumber than those in Israel, but if YOU get vaccinated, that has no bearing on another person and the choices they make with their health. They mask off? Who cares? You got vaccinated, you are protected.

This is why it doesn't make any sense to tell those vaxed to keep masks on, it's not like they ever worked anyways.

Also, the vaccine is something like 90 percent effect after the first dose, so even if 45 percent of the population is fully vaccinated, you still have protection from the first dose. Plus, you aren't factoring in herd immunity with those vaxed + those have natural immunity after catching COVID and fighting it off naturally.

So yeah, CDC way late on this.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/13/health/cdc-mask-guidance-vaccinated/index.html

New CDC guidelines -- Vaxed people can go outside or go indoors maskless.

Who would have thought it would have taken the morons at the CDC this long to say what doctors around the world have been saying? How long did it take them to look at the Israel data which show the vaccine is massively effective? No offense, but you're a bit paranoid if you are wearing a mask after you've been vaccinated. Get vaccinated, take off the mask. Use common sense, CDC.

the logical point is. without all adults being vaccinated and a few weeks are passed its not really good to start saying only some should take off their masks too early. because.. generally americans are not that bright and so if there was a de-masking order when only the 65yo+ were vaccinated.. the under 65yo who have not been vaccinated would de-mask and pretend they had the vaccine. and thus end up causing the under 65 to spread the virus..

so yea. now the population of all adults is generally safe. guess what. they can take their masks off

if americans had a higher IQ and a respect for personal and social health of those around them. maybe the masks could have come off earlier for those vaccinated..

but the last year has shown there are too many idiots that would abuse the relaxations. such as pretend they are older and already vaxxed.
so yea dont blame the CDC. blame idiots that dont give a crap about their own health and other health as to the reason the social distancing orders were put in place.

yes i said it. if people actually had common sense to look after themselves and others around them out of free choice and intelligence.. there would not need to have been laws created to enforce something people should do out of common sense..

EG its the same as wearing pants in public. if idiots kept their pants on. thre would be no need for public nudity laws..

i can already tell badecker has a bad hygiene issue even before covid. and has not even bothered to grasp the basic minimum of common sense of washing hands regularly during the pandemic.

the only time he has mentioned buying cleaning solutions in the last year. is to add it to his drinking water and drink it

No one was saying the masks should come off early, the masks have been going on for over a year now. Americans are quite stupid, sometimes. But so are a lot of people.

Once you get jabbed, you take off the mask because the chance of you getting the virus is almost zero. If you are vaccinated and the person next to you is not, you do not need to wear a mask because chances are you will not get infected -- we have the data from Israel, everyone does. The reinfection rate after a vaccine is some absurdly low percentage. The CDC guidelines also stated, before, that you need to wear a mask outside regardless if you're vaccinated when you're in larger groups. The chance of getting COVID outside is quite literally less than 1 percent when you are within the vicinity of a person that is COVID positive, and if you are vaccinated, the chance is even lower.

40,000 or 50,000 units of vitamin D

Who in the world told you to take 40k IU's of vitamin D? 5k a day is enough.

Isn't vitamin D toxic at these levels? I know babies can overdose on it, not sure about adults.

In general it is not toxic at 40 to 50 thousand. But everybody should check with their health professional for their own particular use. Check what the various nutritional sites say on the Internet.

Several times I have taken over 200,000 units at once. I don't make it a daily practice.

Cool

Even at 50k daily there is a chance that it might be toxic. 50k every now and then is an overkill, 50k a day is probably toxic. You really don't need that much and I don't know why any doctor would advise their patient to take that much. 1k-5k IU's is more than enough if you're vitamin D deficient (daily). Some people get IV's done but vitamin D pills are more convenient and cheaper. I can't imagine how many pills you would be consuming when you consume 200k worth...

2150  Economy / Economics / Re: 3.9million users took part in the Elon Musk poll; What will be Tesla's decision? on: May 13, 2021, 07:53:07 PM
It was Elon that caused it as well, that is the funny thing. He talked about how his company Tesla, after just few months, will not sell cars for bitcoin because of "environmental fear" and then all the crypto prices crashed. He asked about "should tesla accept doge" a bit before that as well. It is an obvious attempt that he wanted to get doge above bitcoin, even if not above marketcap, it should be above in profitability, the price dropped after his SNL sketch and that is why he wanted to recover it but now with the bitcoin tweet he destroyed all of it.

This is basically the reason why I believe he wanted to do something but failed miserably while doing that, because when bitcoin drops everything else drops with it. In the end we are in a world where crypto is tied together and people like Elon should not have this much power over it at all.

I have been saying this since 2012 (when I made my first post in this forum). Altcoins doesn't have any independent existence. They will survive only of Bitcoin survives. There are technologically advanced altcoins out there such as Cardano, which uses the modern Haskell algorithm. But even these coins follow the same principles followed by Satoshi Nakamoto when he created Bitcoin - such as controlled supply, PoW mining.etc. Elon will soon realize that he can't push any of his shitcoins above Bitcoin.

"Dontbuyatesla" is trending right now on twitter LOL.

Too bad Elon Musk didn't realize no one would listen to his shitty crypto advice now that he spreads misinformation about BTC. The whole "green technology" pitch was BS. He's a billionaire engaging in market manipulation with an unregulated market, and his mindless followers will defend him because he posts memes on Twitter. He reminds me of a slightly more hinged version of Trump.

BILLIONAIRES ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. In caps, in case it wasn't obvious to anyone.

Suddenly the walking meme isn't too funny anymore. I'll admit I found his antics amusing, but then he outputs blatant falsehoods about BTC and crypto in general.

The electric bearing of crypto is not anywhere near the resources needed to manage a financial institution. Want to know how much electricity it takes to store physical commodities or currency, secure it, maintain it? Maybe someone should let Elon know.
2152  Economy / Economics / Re: I feel the report about UK economy losing 700 billion is wrong!!! on: May 12, 2021, 09:19:09 PM
Nope, the report is accurate. When the UK locks down businesses and raises the unemployment rate, the only predictable outcome is an economic recession. The vaccine is being administered, that doesn't change the fact that commerce was basically completely halted, people left their jobs, and government began printing money. There will be ramifications (good for bitcoin, but unironically)
2153  Economy / Economics / Re: 3.9million users took part in the Elon Musk poll; What will be Tesla's decision? on: May 12, 2021, 06:45:49 PM
Elon would accept doge for the hell out it because it's great for marketing.

"Eccentric billionaire accepts meme coin", "Buy a Tesla with doge coin meme currency"

This guy loves attention, and Tesla's stock is massively over valued, so the moment he's out of the spotlight, Tesla shares will sink.
2154  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Pipeline shutdown cause fuel scarcity in the US on: May 11, 2021, 10:35:22 PM
So from what I've read, the US has a pipeline that travels from the south of the country along the coast, and hackers went into a private company and locked down their systems with ransomware. Sounds like a huge cyber attack but I just now heard of it. I guess it might cause a temporary fuel shortage but the company says they'll have their systems back up at the end of the week so that's probably why this isn't a bigger deal.

TL;DR - Prices are increasing on everything. Any commodity you can think of, prices have increased.

Too many people are conflating the increases due to supply chain issues because of COVID, problem is, the supply chain was stressed, did not fail, and at some point the prices for these goods would return to normal once the pandemic subsided. Well, we are at the lowest COVID cases in almost every major country since around March (or whenever an individual country's peak was). Prices for goods continue to increase.

Turns out, printing endless money has consequences. Gonna be an interesting couple of years.

see for yourself why they don't have high Covid numbers - https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-021-01337-2

Since when do we trust the numbers the states release? I don't trust any of these numbers high or low it doesn't matter. In India, from December/2020 to April/2021, there were only 1M new cases and in 1 month it went up by 100% to over 20M. Does this look normal to you? What has changed?

We only can rely on the data if the data is produced.

So for India, there is no national testing programs so their numbers remained artificially low. If people get the virus and don't get tested, their positive case isn't entered into some database, and we don't have any numbers to work with. For Israel, given the fact they are keeping tracks of how many jabs they're giving out, we have data to work with. Sure, we are "trusting" them, to an extent, but we don't have much else to rely on.

https://www.thelocal.it/20210417/350000-doses-in-a-day-italy-hits-a-record-number-of-covid-19-vaccinations/

Cool little chart on this website shows mass vaccine adoption in the EU, with massive rollout plans targeting hundreds of thousands of individuals a day. Steep incline on number of doses being administered.

US vaccine update - https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/08/health/us-coronavirus-saturday/index.html

Number of vaccines administered per day is starting to decrease because 1/3 of the US population's been vaccinated. People trust the vaccine.

Does the vaccine work? It does, look at Israel's roll out program and see for yourself why they don't have high Covid numbers - https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-021-01337-2
2158  Economy / Economics / Re: Are you aware of Shrinkflation? on: May 08, 2021, 08:41:08 PM
Deceptive marketing has always been there. People complain that they receive less product for more money, so the alternative is to charge the same amount while reducing the size or amount of the product. Not so much a dark side of the free market, more so taken advantage of consumers that aren't wise enough to look at the unit price.
2159  Economy / Economics / Re: China to overtake the Us as the largest global economy by 2028? on: May 08, 2021, 04:09:59 AM
Haven't seen many people mention AI. China (and Russia, but set them aside for now) have been working on improving their AI innovation, and China steals R&D from the US, so they can innovate faster and cheaper. Joe Biden doesn't know what's going on, so he isn't going to advocate for technological advancement in the private sector to beat China. Trump was tougher on China, but it was more on the economic front (trade wars, tweeting a bunch of nonsense every time he was upset, ect.) China will topple the US as the world's greatest super power, if they continue on this track.

2160  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Covid spike protein causing deadly blood clots > in all the covid vaccines ... on: May 07, 2021, 10:53:05 PM
Hmm, I guess this explains why fact checkers put out a fact check today letting everyone know that spike proteins aren't dangerous and that no one that's vaccinated can shed Covid spike proteins...

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/05/07/fact-check-covid-19-vaccinated-people-dont-shed-virus/4971413001/

When I read this, I asked myself why "fact checkers" would fact check something that was so asinine and I questioned if there was an actual person that truly believed spike proteins are dangerous and that a nonvaccinated human can "catch them", but I guess people believe these spike proteins cause blood clots, and perhaps that it's possible it could "shed" from humans? I don't know, it all seems confusing to me.
