1941  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Andrew Cuomo resigns as NY governor // CA recall election on: August 10, 2021, 04:39:16 PM
How lovely. I'm a bit saddened it was allegations of sexual assault that finally kicked his ass to the curb, and not the thousands of seniors he sentenced to death by shipping Covid positive nursing home patients back into nursing homes. The flippant tone when talks about his Covid policy, serves him right.
1942  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the most optimistic result of Bitcoin? on: August 10, 2021, 04:30:08 PM
Most optimistic - major currencies, USD, CNY, GBP (all the rest) eventually enter high inflationary periods due to irresponsible economics and heavy handed approaches of governmental interference, and people adopt Bitcoin/decentralization instead.

Most realistic - major currencies become devalued over time, not crash or collapse, and Bitcoin becomes a competitor of major currencies, forcing governments to keep spending in check and hopefully take a hands off approach of economic policy.

I wouldn't mind competition between currencies, with a decentralized currency keeping every government motivated to not drift too off course, because either way, it involves BTC becoming a major player.

The crypto market seems to be responding positively in anticipation of increased regulatory certainty.

Almost $200 billion has been added to the total crypto market cap since H.R. 3684 was received by the senate, and Bitcoin is up 35%.

All thanks to you know who... your main man in the main office, Joe B.  Wink

TBH I always liked Wyden. You can count on his hand to stick up and point out when things are possibly amiss.

Well we won't actually know for certain the long term effects of all this because there isn't an alternate reality that we have to measure the crypto growth without the bill. It's not going to be good for business for sure in the long term, short term, who knows how the market will react.

It's been passed now I think 69-30 and is on its way to the house.
1945  Other / Politics & Society / Re: My body, my choice is the new : just do it ! on: August 09, 2021, 06:12:39 PM
I thought you were talking about abortion before I realized it was about vaccines. Seemed odd you were advocating for a pro-choice stance.

No one is trying to force you to stick a needle in your arm. There's vaccine mandates maybe in a few EU countries and a few localities in the US, and most of them aren't even forcing anything, they just say incredibly stupid things in order to promote people getting the vaccine.
1946  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reeee: Joe Biden is President of the United States on: August 09, 2021, 05:50:03 PM
President Biden and his infrastructure plan here want to tax the crypto scene in order to generate extra revenue - https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/08/06/crypto-bitcoin-infrastructure-senate/

Read here about what is being challenged about the bill, the definition of a "broker" - https://www.finance.senate.gov/chairmans-news/wyden-lummis-toomey-amendment-would-clarify-digital-asset-reporting-requirements

Basically, increased regulation to generate tax revenue that might be targeting miners or 3rd party platforms. They say in the press report above that they want to amend the bill to relieve some of the burdens on these intermediaries so that they don't have to file with the IRS or owe any tax burden.
1947  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Spacing Pfizer Covid-19 shots boosts antibody levels after initial drop: Study on: August 07, 2021, 03:46:04 PM
I saw this study early on but it doesn't seem many medical professionals are advising their patients to space out the doses. Could be they're afraid that their patients will just get lazy and not get the second dose, but this might be something 3rd world countries could benefit from. They won't have the luxury of stockpiling vaccines for 3rd booster doses, so better to prolong the immunity any way you can.
1948  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you think COVID19 is a scam? on: August 07, 2021, 05:10:27 AM

For some reason this is apparently an excuse for black people not to get vaccinated. The US wants to try out vaccine mandates and vaccine passports. Even though Israel's vaccine passport program hasn't really worked out so well, and France rioting every day over vaccine mandates, passports, lockdown restrictions, and god knows what else, some localities in the US want to force restrictions for the unvaxxed.

Problem is, blacks and hispanics are the most likely to be unvaccinated, so what happens when black and hispanic people are being turned away for not being vaccinated? Sounds a bit discriminatory, but hey, they can do what they want, even if the optics are terrible.

I'm white for the record, but I feel "black" enough these days that I'm not quick to trust them either.

I'm ALL for people doing what they want!

Also, I went to school about a hour from the "first" school shooting.  I learned you never want to be the first one out on a fire drill... nor the last.  I'll be happy to get vaccinated, but on my own terms and without mandates or threats.

I believe it's unchristian to follow health mandates blindly.  Reference Jesus not washing his hands in front of the lawyer and the doctor (whatever their titles where back in the day).

I know I wasn't accusing you specifically - the Tuskegee experiments were tossed around a lot as excuses for black people not getting vaccinated while toothless Trump supporters were just accused of being inbred or something.

If vaccine hesitancy is a problem that transcends races, maybe there's a general problem that people don't really trust the government. I've seen liberals ostentatiously post their vaccine status on social media, while right wingers will equally post their anti-vax status, it's very weird.
1949  Other / Politics & Society / Re: CNN FIRES 3 STAFF FOR COVID-19 VACCINATION on: August 06, 2021, 10:00:27 PM
It's not actually an abuse of "human rights", although I think it is a bit stupid. United Airlines also recently announced that they would force vaccination on over 60k employees, perfectly within their right. Normally I would refrain from judgement because I don't care if private companies want be paranoid about a Covid outbreak affecting their business, but it would make sense to me if vaccinations were required amongst people that deal with ill immunocompromised people, like hospital workers. In France, they've mandated healthcare workers get vaxed. No problem with that.

CNN, though, a bit odd. Last time I checked, CNN wasn't in the business of taking care of the immunocompromised. Maybe those sacked employees can join Fox  Wink

1951  Other / Politics & Society / Re: GOP governors already lining up to push back on Biden administration’s new... on: August 06, 2021, 03:38:35 PM
^^^ Adolf Hitler was as rotten to the core as a person can be. At least his actions portrayed this. However, the big banker Zionists of the world are worse, and they won WW2. In fact, they are what's behind all the enslavement and death of mankind right now. Their leader is Satan, himself.

Cool

Ah yes, the evil jews and their damn money. Clearly worse than the systematic genocide of 6 million jews in European countries wiping out over 50 percent of jews at the time. Wonder how the zionists were able to take over the world following half their population being wiped. Makes you think, huh.
1952  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin a safe haven? on: August 06, 2021, 03:35:01 PM
This has been a question that has been asked and discussed on this form over and over again, but I'll repeat my feelings on this question.  When it comes to what a "Safe Haven" is, it doesn't necessarily have to be something that can't lose value.  Gold is obviously the primary example of this.  Gold certainly can and does lose value, yet it is considered the ultimate "safe haven".  So yes I personally feel that it is a safe haven, but maybe not one as good as say Gold or Silver.

I interpreted OP to mean safe heavan as in the government can't come in and interfere with commerce, because he talked about asset transfer.

Either way, the answer I think the answer is yes. No, Bitcoin's value is not guaranteed, but neither is any other fiat currency. In fact, you can literally guarantee that fiat will lose its value because financial institutions purposefully target inflation rates to be elevated to discourage people from hoarding fiat. So if you're losing whatever cash value you have at 2-3 percent a year, Bitcoin certainly looks a lot safer if you look at the bigger picture.

Sure, someone that bought in 6 months ago before the dip is not very convinced - but as I always say, increase the time frame. Would someone who ditched fiat for crypto 3 years ago be one to complain? Nope.

Perhaps the hardcore crypto nuts might suggest that Bitcoin's price won't be as volatile with more adoption, but it's not really a good argument given the price swings when the whole world was beginning to dump their funds in crypto. Counter argument would be that the mass adoption was creating an unstable bubble, but regardless, bitcoin is as safe as it gets if you extend out the time scale and not focus on price swings that might extend over a few weeks.
1953  Economy / Economics / Re: China - everything is fine! But everything is bad ... on: August 05, 2021, 05:49:00 PM
The Chinese people don't care enough for basic liberties because they're complacent and okay with the current existing affairs. One would think there'd be a slight amount of outrage when millions of muslims are struck of their human rights, many being placed in modern day "concentration camps" to have their heads shaved and forcibly sterilized CCP is the world's biggest threat in the 21st century, and if you wait on the chinese people to revolt against their own government, you're going to be waiting for a long time.
1954  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a speculative asset or as currency on: August 05, 2021, 05:43:01 PM
Both, probably.

You ask someone in the first world that is middle/high income, they'll treat it as a speculative asset because they don't believe Bitcoin has intrinsic value. To be fair, there is no intrinsic value of Bitcoin, but neither is any other currency that isn't backed by a gold standard. But, take away the stable currency that people rely on to accumulate their wealth, for whatever reason, be it inflation, political battles, war, whatever - does Bitcoin act as a currency then? When your traditional currencies fail? Yes.
1955  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WTF? YouTube censoring Senator Rand Paul videos? on: August 05, 2021, 04:43:47 PM
Youtube's always been heavy handed with their censorship whenever anyone speaks something about Covid that isn't mainstream. They came around to the lab leak theory, finally, but you would have videos that'd get taken down for implying the theory a year ago. Have the audacity to say masks barely do anything to stop the spread, and you'll be booted for misinformation. Maybe even citing some basic statistics and comparing Covid to the flu for younger age demographics, nope, can't have that either.
1956  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Delta back to China on: August 04, 2021, 04:05:39 PM
They probably had the delta variant spreading long before we got the first publicized case, because if we are to believe their current numbers, they only have a 7 day average of about 50 cases...and obviously we can't believe their current numbers. Could also be possible it's the new "delta plus" variant that's been circulating. Apparently South Korea found a new variant of the delta strain, so now we're dealing with this in the APAC region.
1957  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [Poll] At what point will you stop complying with Covid restrictions? on: August 03, 2021, 09:46:59 PM
https://www.foxnews.com/media/biden-covid-adviser-americans-need-to-wear-n95-masks

Former Biden admin. Covid-19 health adviser says the quiet part out loud. Read for yourself his statements, don't take my word. He says that the cloth masks everyone has been wearing haven't really done much in stopping the virus going in or out and that heavier duty masks are required. This isn't a right wing nut job, this is someone who used to advise Joe Biden and his staff. This person isn't a mask cultist, and is looking at the data which demonstrate that masks are not effective outside of specific and careful laboratory conditions in stopping Covid spread. I'm glad he's speaking out, because once people ditch the mask, they'll take measures that work, like the vaccine, or social distancing, which are demonstrable methods of stopping Covid spread.

You might watch his Joe Rogan appearance, this is the only interview that I can find that is long form - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3URhJx0NSw This was over a year ago, but much of the info holds true, so he happened to get a lot right.
1958  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Coronavirus Outbreak on: August 03, 2021, 05:16:08 PM
Oh, and then trying to cover up the actual data of nursing home deaths. NY AG should investigate that too.

They did.  That's how we know about it.

https://ag.ny.gov/sites/default/files/2021-nursinghomesreport.pdf

So when can we get something more than just preliminary findings? Could the AG charge people involved in the nursing home scandal? The chance that happens is less than zero, of course. Being liable for the deaths of thousands of nursing home patients is unfortunately a matter of incompetency than anything else. At least Cuomo got a sweet book deal out of it though. Maybe he can use the proceeds to cover his legal fees for sexually harassing the help.
1959  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Coronavirus Outbreak on: August 03, 2021, 04:48:02 PM
What a shame. Governor Andrew "Elderly Abuse" Cuomo, responsible for the worst performance of Covid-19 with a deaths per capita higher than most civilized countries, is now accused of sexual harassment according to a new investigation that was completed by the NY Attorney General's office - https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/03/politics/andrew-cuomo-new-york-report/index.html

I actually don't care about this story much, because if he did commit an actual crime, he should be prosecuted. But if we're talking about a more severe fuck up, I'd say shipping Covid positive nursing home patients back into nursing homes takes the cake. Oh, and then trying to cover up the actual data of nursing home deaths. NY AG should investigate that too.

https://www.aljazeera.com/sports/2021/8/2/best-moment-of-tokyo-2020-world-reacts-to-shared-olympic-gold

What a wholesome moment, two olympians share the Olympic gold medal in the high jump event.

Another story that caught my attention was this - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/krystsina-tsimanouskaya-belarus-olympics-seeks-asylum/

Belarus obviously has a ton of problems governmentally, this olympian is seeking asylum and she was taken to a Polish embassy in Tokyo where she was granted asylum in Poland after refusing a forced flight home. She criticized the government and feared she would be killed for doing so. Good for her.
