2021  Economy / Economics / Re: The first rule of investing is saving on: July 08, 2021, 02:24:45 PM
Define saving.

Take one of the largest currencies out there, USD, if you "saved" USD over the last 20 years (using 20 years as an extreme example, it can be much shorter than that depending on monthly inflation rates), the same USD in 2001 would have been worth 50 percent more than it would have been worth now. So merely by saving, you lost over 50 percent of the value in your savings over 2 decades. Take this to a smaller scale - every day, you are technically loosing money by holding on to an inflating currency. Not advocating for everyone to throw away any income in currency they get obviously, but saving has its limitations.
2022  Economy / Economics / Re: A message from my bank saying they will not allow me to purchase from Binance on: July 08, 2021, 02:20:36 PM
Binance and coinbase are awful. I would say stay away from using exchanges because the fees are annoying, and of course, you don't actually own any Bitcoin when you have it on these exchanges. You have an imaginary number on your wallet which denotes your balance, and you hope that you don't get banned. *But*, if you do use an exchange, do 10 seconds of research, there are so many better ones out there.

NSA *potential* abuse update regarding Tucker Carlson - https://www.axios.com/tucker-carlson-putin-interview-surveillance-c9952d7c-33d7-45e9-be68-2ba4c3817f98.html

Allegedly, he was seeking out an interview with Putin before the NSA started their spying on his team. So they were potentially monitoring contact with his team and the Russians, but it's not unusual for the media to obtain interviews with foreign leaders. NBC landed an interview with Putin, many other cable news channels got interviews with Russian officials. So why is Tucker Carlson different? Well, he isn't, NSA being shitty as always. Nothing new here.
2024  Other / Politics & Society / Re: We Have Passed the Thousand Deaths by Vaccine Per Month on: July 07, 2021, 07:52:26 PM
The death rate is so low, there are literally dozens of things you should be worried about before catching Covid.  In fact, if you're scared of Covid and you don't have a serious medical condition causing you this fear, you should probably just stay indoors for the rest of your life.
It's not just the rate of death, it's the total number of cases. Even if death rate is low as a proportion of cases, if there are a lot of cases — as in a global pandemic — then there are a lot of deaths.
The current total deaths from CV19 is 4 million, globally.
And even if you are young and perfectly healthy, you should have some empathy for others. If you catch the virus and experience only mild symptoms, you can easily pass it on to someone more vulnerable, and kill them.

Which is why you protect the most vulnerable. Doesn't make sense to confine young and healthy people to their homes, take their job, and print money from a printer because they can beat the disease fine.

If you want to make the case for vulnerable people to hunker down, then it makes sense. If young people transmit this amongst each other, it's no big deal, just limit contact from older folks. Basically, don't do what NY Governor did and ship covid positive patients into nursing home and turn it into a death trap.
2025  Other / Politics & Society / Re: We Have Passed the Thousand Deaths by Vaccine Per Month on: July 06, 2021, 08:55:26 PM
when idiots refuse the vaccine, refuse to respect personal space.. well. when they get covid, the government have to put them somewhere when they succumb to the virus

You've clearly been smoking Uncle Sam's pole for way too long.  You're high.

The death rate is so low, there are literally dozens of things you should be worried about before catching Covid.  In fact, if you're scared of Covid and you don't have a serious medical condition causing you this fear, you should probably just stay indoors for the rest of your life.  There's lots of scary things out there to actually be afraid of, Covid isn't one of them.

Well, Covid has induced a wave of hypochondriacs that will triple mask when stepping outside, not even being 20 feet from someone, or perhaps even masking after vaxxed (which is nonsense btw). But even if you don't have a serious medical condition, I would understand why you might be afraid. On the other side of that coin, I don't understand why people who are obese, stuff food and cigarettes down their throat, would have vaccine hesitancy. As if the vaccine is more dangerous than the toxic waste they consume on a daily basis. I think Darwinism might apply, letting natural selection take its course, but it's also a bit cruel to write them off.

Great news, Boris Johnson announced that the UK will lift it's Covid restrictions by July 19th. I say "great" with an asterisk because the maladroitness leadership of Boris in regards to Covid has tampered down the economy and put useless restrictions on a country that's had a decent vaccine rollout program. Partial lockdowns have never worked, yet somehow that seems to be the band aid solution to an increase in caseload.

I am skeptical that this will be the last we hear of lockdowns, rest assured that Covid alarmists will demand more restrictions despite a working vaccine.

or he knows earth is screwed and he is just preparing his exit plan.
nice landscape quiet living accommodation on another planet. far away from earth

Well, we know Earth's been screwed for the last 20 years with climate change grifters telling us that the world's ending for ages. Maybe Jeff Bezos knows something we don't? Maybe the climate change alarmists are actually right this time - the ice caps will melt, sea levels rise, and Bezos isn't along for the ride. Or, maybe he might realize Earth is fine after all.
2028  Economy / Economics / Re: Will banking system in Bangladesh collapse? on: July 04, 2021, 03:54:00 AM
Most countries are having a tough time with Covid because the government are forcing businesses to shut down, so that explains why people are defaulting on their loans. Don't think Covid's gonna trigger large financial institutions to crash because we're past the worst, so you'll eventually see economies recover. Though with the delta variant, I could easily see countries going overboard and doing lockdown v2, and that will certainly cause smaller countries to collapse financially.

Resilient economies can handle one phase of Covid, won't handle two.
2029  Economy / Economics / Re: (HELP) - Which are the most friendly countries for a crypto startup? on: July 03, 2021, 09:48:17 PM
APAC region, probably. You go into any of the larger economies, US, European countries, ect. you'll get hit with a metric ton of taxes and regulations, and the labor markets are extremely expensive. India might be something reasonable if you want dirt cheap labor costs, but their country isn't that great (too much poverty and corruption).

Israel, one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, and LA California are now reinstituting their mask mandates, even for vaccinated individuals.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/06/30/los-angeles-indoor-masks-vaccinated/

Completely unscientific and rooted in hypochondriac paranoia. There is no reason for anyone that's vaccinated to continue to wear a mask, the delta variant is susceptible to the vaccines, upwards of 88 percent for the fully vaccinated. So, why is Israel and California reinstituting their mask mandate? Will they now begin to use the excuse of the delta variant so they can shut down businesses again? At what point does Covid actually go away? Never. We're in the new normal, apparently, where even if you are vaccinated you still must conform to Covid restrictions, which is anti-science.
2032  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Covid vaccine TERMINATES 4 out of 5 pregnancies via “spontaneous abortions” on: July 03, 2021, 07:49:30 PM
I'm surprised that the article on that site linked to the actual journal entry, they usually don't!

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33882218/

Here's what the study says in conclusion:

Quote
Preliminary findings did not show obvious safety signals among pregnant persons who received mRNA Covid-19 vaccines. However, more longitudinal follow-up, including follow-up of large numbers of women vaccinated earlier in pregnancy, is necessary to inform maternal, pregnancy, and infant outcomes.

Bummer, not quite the 4 out of 5 terminations the article claims. So as with most things, the fringe news sites twist what the journal entry actually says. Another point, CDC recommends consulting your doctor before getting the shot if you're pregnant. The vaccine seems to be relatively safe on pregnant women, but the clinical trials didn't seem to have many pregnant women participating, so take the vaccine if you really need it. But, your baby's not going to die if you take the vaccine, no evidence to suggest so.

Note that the conclusion - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33882218/ - says "Preliminary findings..." Note that if you go to the link in that Pubmed site - https://www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NEJMoa2104983 (listed as DOI: 10.1056/NEJMoa2104983) - you will find that the preliminary findings in Pubmed are contradicted and explained. The explanation doesn't match what Pubmed said originally.

This is confirmed in the Pubmed site, linked to another site by the words "PMCID: PMC8117969" - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8117969/.

Internal contradictions and mixups. Got a college education? You might be able to wade through the Pubmed mess. Otherwise, simply get it in straight, easy to read language from Natural News - https://www.naturalnews.com/2021-07-01-depopulation-alert-shocking-new-study-reveals-covid-vaccine-terminates-4-out-of-5-pregnancies-via-spontaneous-abortions.html#.

Cool

Hmm, so I might pass on reading Natural News, for reasons.

But Pubmed is just a database of published research literature, it's not meant to be an authoritative source on anything. You can find wacky publications on any topic, even many with flawed methodology. I see the same conclusions in the original article that I linked and the article you linked from the New England Journal of medicine. Both said there isn't any obvious evidence that Covid's mRNA vaccine showed any safety concern to pregnant women.

Again, any pregnant women needs to consult their doctor before taking a vaccine, doesn't mean the Covid vaccine's gonna kill their child. Study says there needs to be more research into the matter regardless. So even if you do think the vaccine's not safe for pregnant women, you can't use this research article without the caveat that we need more studies.

2034  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Democracy only in papers. on: July 01, 2021, 10:25:49 PM
Well, ask yourself -- why is it the social structure in Africa is so wildly incompatible with the west that democracy would be incongruent to African countries?  I can't think anything, we're all people after all. Democracy works regardless of the social structure, which is why Asian countries practice democracy despite having different cultural systems than the US or even European countries. Japan, South Korea, just to name a couple. Democracy is only what you make of it. It's great on paper, but it's also fragile and malleable. Africa's had a long history of corruption and it doesn't change overnight. And there is some responsibility of the people to make sure democracy works. After all, the preamble to the US construction states "we the people."

For the sake of argument, let's say

Ben Shapiro moment  Grin

IMO - Politically motivated witch hunts are still politically motivated.

Two things are true - if he committed crimes, he can enjoy the prison food. But I also hope everyone, even democrat and republican politicians, are held to the same standard of law. And plus, if it turns out he's innocent, then I feel bad that he may have been the target of political charges.

It is almost as if the charges are politically motivated. Or almost as if the DA made campaign promises to charge Trump and associates with baseless crimes.

Obviously we'll see it play out in court, but I doubt these crimes will be baseless because let's be honest, every one of these wall st exec have their hands dirty. Still though, innocent until proven guilty, always. It'll probably be a case of "barely legal."
2036  Economy / Economics / Re: Poor and middle class as a mentality on: July 01, 2021, 08:14:23 PM
For example, in a school of a country that does not give opportunity to its people, where most of the students are poor, it is unlikely that the teachers will induce them to think big or have big dreams...more likely they will aim to keep them apart from drugs, avoid problems with the government and try to imbue some basic skill for life. The ultra-poor do not even get that - which actually may be better.
Just for the fact that we don't live in a classless society, people are bound to have better opportunities/stand better chances of success than others even right from birth, even ones country of birth other than the immediate family plays a part in that, it's much better to be born in a developed country than an underdeveloped one, but even having said that, it doesn't mean than if one is privileged to have such advantages that they outrightly will be better than those who are not, of course their chances are higher, but they still have work to do on their own path, thus even people from poor backgrounds/underprivileged countries still break the chain and achieve success, hardwork has a lot to play in success, though a good background makes things a whole lot easier.

This is what I say to people that believe equity should be guaranteed. Yes, people have an easier pathway in life. This applies to everyone. If you were born in a first world country, you immediately outpace over 50 percent of the world population in terms of your projected income and life expectancy. You can put individuals that are competent and work hard in tough life situations, a lot of the times they will find their way out. Doesn't mean it'll be easy.
2037  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Joe Biden is President of the United States of America on: July 01, 2021, 05:03:17 AM

Joe Biden said "yes" when asked about "redirecting funding" from police - https://nypost.com/2020/08/09/joe-bidens-doubletalk-on-defund-the-police/

This is called defunding, but a cowardly way of saying it.

Calling it "defunding the police" is just a stupid way of saying it.  It makes it sound far more extreme than it is, which is why if you search "defund the police" you'll find mostly right wing media articles explaining how horrible it is to 'defund the police'.  It was a bad choice of words that the right wing has latched on to, and I suspect many who consume it actually believe democrats just want to get rid of law and order.

I've read deeply into it. It's a stupid idea. They want to take away funding to support social programs, similar to taking money, pouring gasoline on it, and lighting it on fire.

The US's greatest myth is that throwing money into some useless social program will solve your problems. As if it worked for the US education system. Not everything is a right wing conspiracy or misrepresentation. Since Saint Floyd tragically passed away, left wingers felt the need to go on a tirade against police.  Sending mental health counselors or social workers to calls that police normally respond to fail to account the reason why police are even dispatched in the first place, for emergencies. You do not call the 911 to have a social worker sent out.

And not like democratic politicians would ever know this, but domestic violence and mental health calls are by far the most dangerous calls police dispatched to, they turn violent on a dime.

See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HScaA_yXSc8, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izoc7L-PAW0, and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKk8hQCoUoA.

Plenty more I could link to. I would love to know how a social worker would solve this. Police officers are adult baby sitters with guns in case things go bad. And a lot of the time, they do go bad.

Police departments are already stretched thing with their budgets. They don't have any more money to lose.
2038  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Joe Biden is President of the United States of America on: July 01, 2021, 02:02:09 AM
Actually I'm pretty thrilled that these types of "outrages" are the worst angles republican thought leaders can engineer to attack Biden, that crazy and dangerous guy.

I'm not attacking Biden. I feel sorry for him and his handlers. He is very old, not in control of himself, a bit senile, and everybody owes him some sympathy. More of an attack on democrats that think they need to pander to the far left to gain political victories. Not like US cities are dumpster holes or anything with high murder rates.

Where's Matt Gaetz. I'm sure he's super duper outraged too.

Shoulda went with Marjorie Taylor Greene. She's lower hanging fruit on the Republican Retardation tree. Actually, more of a useful idiot who can vote along party lines while the adults in the room get the work done. Thankfully for us, she will not be President any time soon (hopefully?).

https://news.yahoo.com/psaki-stands-claims-republicans-responsible-201000791.html

Here's a laughable story, Joe Biden's press secretary accused Republicans of wanting to defund the police because they didn't vote for a "rescue package" bill that probably had no less than half a dozen provisions that were batshit insanity. Only need to look at the record of every democratic city council or mayor from LA to NYC to Minneapolis to Chicago which have defunded their police force, or redirected funding, aka defunding. Clearly Republicans are at fault here for the lunacy of democratic proposals.

Joe Biden said "yes" when asked about "redirecting funding" from police - https://nypost.com/2020/08/09/joe-bidens-doubletalk-on-defund-the-police/

This is called defunding, but a cowardly way of saying it.

In typical fashion, far leftist proposal fails miserably, and it's the republicans' fault because it's actually them that pushed for the proposal.

Police are needed to address homicide rates in major American cities from bubbling over. Violent crime is up in these democratic cities, but somehow taking police away from the solution is how you fix it? We'll see how that works.
2040  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Oh dear. 105mph on: June 30, 2021, 08:02:24 PM
75 mph (120 km/h) seems reasonable, that way everyone can go around 80 mph or so reasonably. I've heard of cops pulling over people for going 3 or 4 mph over the limit though, only to let them go with a warning (why bother pulling them over if it's for that much?) 105 mph is way too fast, you go that fast you deserve to get pulled over and hit with a fine.
