601  Economy / Speculation / Re: When do you think will be a best time to buy bitcoin? on: December 17, 2016, 10:35:58 PM
You should buy it now before it gets too expensive to buy a whole coin....
Don't say we didn't warn you  Roll Eyes
602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NOT Upgrading to SegWit who's with me?! on: December 17, 2016, 10:33:32 PM
Segwit is not even economical, even if we ignored the security risks it presents
We get to use around 56% of the extra space for txs

Nobody who isn't brainwashed by core would put segwit ahead of a bigger block....
603  Economy / Speculation / Re: is it time to start seriously talking about a $5000 BTC on: December 17, 2016, 09:37:33 AM
i think theres no time to talk about $5000 per btc as we all know next year will be the last price of bitcoin accept it or not bitcoin will be $1000 next year and it could be stable than other currency but if all people in the world would use and invest bitcoin i think there's a chance that bitcoin could hit atleast $1500 per bitcoin. its okay to dream but dont expect.

It wont be stable when it runs up to 5k but when its comes down and settles then it will become stable again.

Yes, indeed
It will probably retrace a bit after breaking $5k and when it leaps again it will break $10k and eventually stay up there.... Most people who are here today will have sold though so I think there maybe less fud on the threads in future because the new owners of bitcoin will be professional investors and not kids with their pocket money  Wink
604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: December 17, 2016, 09:33:39 AM
With POS, we will see constant downtrend, bcoz Top Holders will dump for Profit, until we see any development or uses that drive the price higher. Till then Downtrend will continue.

I think you need too learn some mathematics, currently 1 million Ethereum are produce each month - this finishes in March 2017.

This equates to 33,333 ETH are produced each day and at a guess up too 70% are sold on each day or 23,333 ETH too investors.

Proof of stake at 1% per annum is 90,000 ETH, increasing in long rung, so the the 1% would need some modest reductions to not runaway with the effects of compound interest.

7500, ETH a month, which works out at 250 ETH a day!

Yeah, who actually going to sit there and claim the crypto market can't absorb 250 ETH each day? LOL

I agree, it's easy to absorb it as the price approaches $1

Bitpop

You're full of doom and gloom thesedays...
Why don't you tell us about the time you lost your bitcoins so we can all have a laugh and cheer up a bit?  Grin
605  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the Bitcoin price ever drop back down to $500? on: December 17, 2016, 09:28:43 AM
Do any of you that follow the price of Bitcoin closely think that the price will ever drop back down to $500 or something close to it? And why or why not?
I think anything may be happen in the Bitcoin , because history of rates of Bitcoin directly saying that nothing is fixed in Bitcoin price .
We already seen in the year 2013 the fall in price was unpredictable and also growth in the price was unbelievable .
So anything may happen .

it is possible the 100th time i am saying this in this board. and i say it again.
DO NOT compare bitcoin in 2016 with bitcoin in 2013.
that pump that everybody keeps referencing that caused the big and long dump is because back then MtGox had more than 70% trade volume in the whole world so they could easily manipulate bitcoin price, the whales back then were not an numerous as today.
today the biggest exchange out there with mad trade volume only has less than 13% of the world's total volume and it is decreasing (because of spread) each day eliminating chances of manipulation.

Let's leave MtGox alone

But we still should not forget the dramatic consequences that its collapse led to. History never repeats itself, so, as you say, we can hardly see the replay of what had happened in 2013. But that doesn't itself mean that we are completely insured from the events that would be as serious or even more serious in their consequences that those that the fall of MtGox caused. On the other hand, the hack (or scam) at Bitfinex this summer drastically affected the prices, so can the events similar to what happened to MtGox in 2013 not really happen again?

To see another mt gox situation in 2016/17 is not impossible but it becomes more unlikely every day that goes by...

I have set aside a big pile of cash this time in case it happens and I am sure not the only one who wishes to buy a shitload MOAR Bitcoinz...... But I think the support is too strong and no matter what gets hacked any dip will get picked up almost  immediately.....

If the current price were to drop by 50% people would sell their homes  to buy in and some already are taking loans to buy at the current price so I just don't see it happening....
606  Economy / Speculation / Re: If we didnt had idiots blocking segwit we would be sittting on 4 figures by now on: December 16, 2016, 02:11:15 PM
It just happens that BU has taken philosophically the correct approach to the problem.

I agree but BU is not better than Segwit.

BU can be capped at any size by miners and nodes
Segwit is ugly and would cripple range protocol forever
607  Economy / Speculation / Re: If we didnt had idiots blocking segwit we would be sittting on 4 figures by now on: December 16, 2016, 01:36:49 PM
Actually this reply was pretty pathetic lmao, he actually posted a reply

DAFAR ROFL more like JAFFAR  Grin go back to your den
You keep ignoring how Andreas Antonopoulos is on our side. Answer: Are you going to call Andreas Antonopoulos a bankster? A Core shill? A blockstreamer? What are you call him now that Andreas agrees with Core's roadmap? Or you will keep ignoring the fact that the best experts on the field are all supporting Core's roadmap? What's your call on this? Is Roger Ver better than all of them you say?

Let me put this really simple for you.

I am against SegWit, not necessarily pro Bitcoin Unlimited. It just happens that BU has taken philosophically the correct approach to the problem.

The core should separate their enhancements into small packages and present each one to the community separately not in a foul umbrella package known as SegWit. Also I am against ugly hacks. The scaling fix should be simple and elegant aka just increasing the maximum block size.

This!
608  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the Bitcoin price ever drop back down to $500? on: December 15, 2016, 07:08:09 AM
Vast enormous piles of chinese and worldwide cash have no place to go
bitcoin is becoming the only safe option for more and more people globally
it will also be used as a hedge for those in the first wiorld who are already wealthy
in conventional assets and cash

Wealth is not money

Many people seem to be confusing them. Wealthy people are not storing their wealth in money. They are storing it in assets which are constantly generating money. Even Bill Gates was said to be spending the proceeds from his ownership of Microsoft to buy shares of silver mining companies. It is usually governments and central banks who are holding piles of money and other monetary assets (e.g. Treasuries), wealthy people tend to buy yachts and other luxuries. I don't think they would be particularly interested in Bitcoin

the price would probably  not be where it is today if it were not for wealthy chinese divesting their stacks of cash
wealthy people horde money in all its forms including assets ,i think bitcoin is slowly becoming recognised as a safe
store of value and hedge against market volatility with the added bonus it can be kept away from prying eyes fairly easily Wink......

yes ,a few wealthy persons may be yachts ,but they would represent  a tiny number on the top of the pyramid of wealth ,akin to the persons who buy private jets and such ..........
609  Economy / Speculation / Re: is it time to start seriously talking about a $5000 BTC on: December 15, 2016, 05:51:37 AM
In my eyes this is not gonna happen and also not needed why would we ever need this, such prices are just too insane to think of honestly!!

the train is leaving the station
CHU CHUU motherfuckers .....

611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoin Full Nodes Are Operated By Businesses? on: December 15, 2016, 12:17:06 AM
my node uploads about 700MB a day .... i wouldnt call that a lot of bandwidth
You probably aren't accepting inbound connections, or are potentially in a /16 with many other nodes so you are connected to less often.   About 300GB/month transfer is not atypical for a node with inbound connections.

BIP152 reduces the data used to send blocks, but that data was only about 12% of the overall.

actually i am accepting inbound connections on port 8333,running the node with 30 -80 connections
and i dont use BIP152 (i keep default bitcoin unlimited settings )

not sure why the upload bandwidth isnt higher but it seem to run fairly efficient as is
612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NOT Upgrading to SegWit who's with me?! on: December 14, 2016, 08:24:28 PM
I don't see any basis for opposition to Segwit from this thread. The allegation is made that allowing Segwit will open the door to Blockstream (or whomever) creating off-chain payment channels that they can earn a profit on. Well, so what? If they succeed with the LN, sidechains, or whatever, is there anything in SegWit or anything else being discussed that will FORCE me to use their off-chain payment channel? Looks like the answer is no, so I can just choose to keep making on-chain transfers.

In other words, people seem to be afraid of increased choice, with no loss of the current option of doing on-chain TX. Does that make any sense?

youre ignoring the basics here
if the block stays at 1MB everyone will be shoehorned onto LN whether they want to be or not
the space in the 1mb block will become so expensive that only businesses like coinbase etc can afford to use it

if we had dynamic blocks + LN at least there would be some choice ,if LN is cheaper ,faster and better everyone will use it anyway so why the need to force them ?
613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoin Full Nodes Are Operated By Businesses? on: December 14, 2016, 08:13:52 PM
In my experience very few businesses are running full nodes; instead they mostly rely on third party APIs.

Many developers do not run nodes which are reachable to the outside world-- uses a lot of bandwidth.

Most miners use pools and do not run a full node at all.

my node uploads about 700MB a day .... i wouldnt call that a lot of bandwidth

i was under the imprerssion that x-thin and compact blocks are fairly economic to run
in modern clients ?

It sounds like we have a little more decentralisation than I thought going into this.  Just too few full nodes, perhaps.

i would say quite a lot of people are running a full client but they forget to open port 8333 on the router to allow incoming connections so they are basically leeeching from the network without giving back
there should be a popup warning in the client as most people probably have no idea and may think theyre runnning a node when they arent ....
this applies whether your running core or bitcoin unlimited client, get that

615  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 14, 2016, 06:49:28 PM
Any news on when the Q1 GUI project is going to be completed. Eagerly waiting for it.... Hoping it by January or early..

I was very wrong at all kind of Crypto speculations. But I give tiny chances that GUI will be out after 5th January.

the gui is likely already priced in
xmr is a nice project ,my only worry is so many other coins are coming to the party
with privacy features ......
hopefully the XMr network effect will be too strong.......

Really, any already announced features have already been priced in by the market...

In my opinion it is not even possible to price in GUI. You see, there are people who are refusing to buy Moneros before they can store them in a safe and sound manner. Therefore, once the wallet is out, they can buy into Monero.
That being said, this can create a speculative bubble and drive the price of Monero literally nuts like we have never seen before.

i moved mine to paper wallet for as few years  ,hot wallets are not partculary safe anyways (for large amounts )

ye of little faith ........ Cheesy
618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoin Full Nodes Are Operated By Businesses? on: December 14, 2016, 06:33:27 PM
i run a bitcoin unlimited node in order to show them some support but everyone who has a non trivial amount
of bitcoins should run a node to protect the network and help prevent centralisation .........

i also like to do my bit to help others in my area who may neeed to download the chain from me
619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Bitcoin Client do you use and why ? on: December 14, 2016, 06:27:53 PM
bitcoin-qt  Grin

I encrypt wallet.dat w/15 character password using qt and have many backups

you should look into wallets that can be recreated with a word seed
all data wallets are prone to corruption over time
620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to do with lost bitcoins on: December 14, 2016, 06:23:57 PM
We all know that there can be no more than 21M bitcoins. We also know that every day some bitcoins get lost forever. That means that they still exist on the blockchain, but no one can access them since the keys are lost. I don't think that this is a right thing. We should recover these coins somehow, and that issue could be addressed eventually. I suggest setting a grace period of, say, ten years after which all wallets that remain untouched during that time and not reclaimed by anyone, should be declared as public property. The transactions that credited these bitcoins to such a wallet should be cancelled (just like correcting entries are made in a real ledger), and the coins should be moved to a new wallet, for example, to finance scientific research...

In this way, we will always have 21M bitcoins after the last bitcoin is mined and can also "resurrect" lost bitcoins for the common good

Taking something that doesn't belong to you is theft.  I suggest you take your criminal idea and character flaw and go create an altcoin that implements your "We'll steal your stuff after a while" idea.  I'm not interested in having your horrible idea in my bitcoin, and since bitcoin is a consensus system you'll never get such a change made anyhow.

Since this topic has been discussed HUNDREDS of times in the past 8 years, can we please just lock this thread now?  Perhaps anyone that posts in this thread with a sig ad after this should just automatically be perma-banned?

AMEN!
