122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining New Coin - concern anti virus will delete my wallet on: June 07, 2016, 07:25:33 PM
You should run new coins on completely different servers because there could be trojans installed in them.

agreed, but I think this person needs to start a little slower then full blown paranoid

you can backup your coins wallet.dat to a safe place (the more the better)

the wallet.dat file lives in

C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Roaming\YourCoin

Thanks I appreciate the information. All I did was create a folder on my computer and saved the backup file there (I will do it regularly). I tried to click on the file but it would not open? How would I use this file to restore my wallet if it gets deleted or lost? Thanks again

I would STRONGLY recommend storing your backup wallet.dat elsewhere. SD card, mega, email even ffs.

To restore, you would just place your backup copy of wallet.dat into the directory I posted previously.

125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: can't modify ppcoind's wallet location on: June 03, 2016, 01:26:26 AM
Hello, and thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

I run a growing number of altcoin daemons on a server. To help stay organized, I modified each daemon's wallet.dat file to indicate which altcoin it stores keys for. E.G. in the dash directory, I moved the wallet to wallet-dash.dat. I then added the line "wallet=wallet-dash.dat" into the dash.conf. This worked like a charm for all of the altcoins except Peercoin.

Does anyone have some insight into how to get this to work for peercoin as well? I've confirmed that ppcoin.conf is getting read (it needs to for the RPC user/password, or the daemon doesn't run). I've tried including the full file path (I.E. wallet=/home/oldspurty/.ppcoind/wallet-peercoin.dat). I've also tried removing the line from the configuration file, and adding it to the command (I.E. ppcoind -wallet=wallet-peercoin.dat). No matter what I do, it seems to always go with the default wallet.dat file. It would be very beneficial to me if I could make this work with the modified name.

Thanks again,

OldSpurty

have you tried looking in the log to see what it says when it tried to load the wallet?

After every staking, the amount is divided into two blocks and I should manual joint in one input.

how to set that wallet this is done automatically?

there's no automatic option for it in the wallet. the alternative is to setup a linux box with a script that'll execute the wallet to recombine the coin into one address/transaction

lol

127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Ever wonder why BTCE price is always lower than everywhere else? on: June 02, 2016, 12:39:02 AM
no, thats how btce always been... waaaay before the shitcoin explosion of 2014... unless you are talking ltc, in which case they always had the volume and best price on ltc, but thats another tin hat altogether.

BTCE has usually had very tiny walls until very recently (like 90 days before halving) you'd see huge 700 BTC ask walls put up right on the bid/ask convergence, which you usually just don't see there.  It coincides with the windfall profits from all the Russian IPO scams and them fleeing back to the motherland with the profits.

OR anyone who knows anything knows that a lot of fucking people use btce for a lot of reasons. You are usually spot on with your observations but this shit is clasping at straws.

130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Option to lock your coins for a certain time in your wallet or exchange? on: May 25, 2016, 11:20:17 PM
I read a lot in this forum, that people sold to early and lose big profits.

My question is, is there a option, that you can look your coins for a certain time like 1 year in your wallet or a exchange?

A lot of people would be maybe lucky to lock some coins for 1 year (like bitcoin  Grin).

Now, I'm not sure if this would fit your bill (PUN!) but check out Hodlcoin. Doest exactly what you want but gives you interest for doing so and is NOT a PoS coin. (which is pretty neat)

ZeroDay exploits are extremely valuable. If you are a serious white or blackhat and interested in Cryptonote vulnerabilities please contact me directly (not through these forums). Cool
132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum devs DDosing LISK? on: May 25, 2016, 08:51:30 PM
Well, today morning I knew nothing about LISK but as it's everywhere in the crypto news I searched for it. And I've seen that today was the launch of LISK. And that it's a competition to Ethereum.
And, well, as You may know, LISK is being ddos-ed and so, hardly dumped on exchanges.
Could be Vitalik and team trying to kill the rival?

hardly

really, DDoS's are so damn cheap anymore it could be anyone doing it... especially if these yahoo's don't have any protection

gee, generally (and especially in the case of r0ach as opposed to spoetnik) both tend to call bull shit on the rampant bullshit that is a plague on these forums. May haps if you find you dont like what they are saying, you should rethink what it is you are doing.

Well it only took me like an hour more than expected, but this image will now auto-update with a new image EVERY 60 SECONDS with the current coinage needed. Will add to OP later, still working on some shit. Hit F5 in a few mins and you'll see the coin age needed change  Wink

Oh shit stop the fucking presses!!!! Your skillz are getting 733t spots!

Maybe next you can code a coin that fucking works. Try that on for size.

and the rest of you dumb fuck sheeple go back a few pages were ccex confirmed they lost 1700 fucking blocks you fucking morons. it's not bittrex, its a bad coin. Move on. this shit is fucking over.
135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: This is too important not to share... on: May 20, 2016, 01:44:30 PM
if it is so decentralized where do we get these debit cards from? is there a new git command that produces ccs?

2. I still love you

3. Launch already

[edit] 6. ffs man, you know you have something better than most, if not all that is out there. whip that shit out on the table and show these mother fuckers what you are packing. it is time. we need it.

So you can buy the cards themselves from anywhere, along with the reader writers.  The software that needs to be installed on the cards will be open source.

Hah, I know I have something better than most, but that alone wasn't good enough for us to take mass market.  Just having fast transactions, or efficiency isn't enough, there needs to be many other things to really attract mass market use.

If I'd of already launched I would be doing the vision and platform potential an injustice, and penetrating the mass market would be 10x harder if not more.

Mass market is huge, $40t per annum, and no one other than us is looking at it seriously...thats a big incentive to do things right the first time!

touche

but

man that is what version's are for. I've got this drawer full of arm boards collecting dust just waiting....

damn spots you did it again lol

I didn't do anything except provide a secure blockchain that kicked out the fork, saving everyone (except one site) from any damages or losses

I think you need to lookup what a secure blockchain is man.

But anyways, back to the show.
138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AnonyMint Leaves the Altcoin Discussions on: May 19, 2016, 12:39:11 AM
He's been banned many times before. Let's hope he returns. He was the laymans best chance here at even remotely understanding what they were actually investing in or mining. You can't really ban him he will return when he wants to.

You may have not liked how he put his points across, but regardless of what he thinks ...many listened when he spoke and took time to try understand what he wrote. Let's face it he put more effort into this discussion board than anyone else ever.

He is a strange guy. I never encountered anyone so smart who seemingly had no idea how to deal with other people. He was easily offended/upset and also seemed to be in need of an outlet for his personal problems. I have no idea why he would relate some of the things he did on a board like this. However, it kind of made you like him more for being so vulnerable and human as well as so smart. It was often like he needed to prove himself and needed the respect of other super smart people. The criticisms and lack of recognition for his insights from the crypto/coding/math elites seemed to be almost crushing for him and he lashed out.

He was like a super brain that had only encountered humans a couple of hours before finding this board. It was also always so strange that someone like this could be down to his last few BTC in life and almost desperate for cash when average minds that joined after he did had so many. I was fascinated that life could reduce someone this smart to having so little left in terms of financial worth. It must be almost evil to have some much raw talent and yet be held back so much through circumstances beyond your control and choices you made.

I mean the guy was 50 right? I mean I actually believed his physical accomplishments too after looking at his pics. I mean he seemingly had it all and yet even with his great athletic physicality  (baring illness) and his obviously very powerful mind he had less ( in terms of financial security and maybe even happyness) than most of us average joe bloggs. It was weird to me reading his open comments about his life and made you realise that even those given so much naturally do not always do better than those with far less genetically.

The super smart feared (admired in secret ) him because he could find their weaknesses/mistakes where most here not and was not afraid to start posting about them immediately on this board. The average admired him (because that's what you do when someone is way way smarter and no longer competition) but because he wanted validation from his true peers that meant little to him.

He was very unpredictable.

He reminded me of BCX (the first person on here I used to like reading when i found this board) although he is not as human and open as anonymint.  Both though can turn on you in an instant and throw down serious hate and venom. Or the next moment be totally nice and friendly. You wouldn't dare trust either. Not because they are deliberately devious but they are just so unpredictable in their moods and would think nothing i'm sure of destroying you utterly over a small difference of opinion.

I don't accept he is gone for good. I liked him. He likes it here and will return after a time. If not it will be far more boring here again.

Of course this is just my take on him each of you will have your own. That's the great thing about big characters they leave us with plenty to talk about. If you don't agree he was a big character then that's you opinion but you're wrong.

If he is HONCHO then that's fine with me. Although to me he does not write as nicely as anonymint. There is not a huge amount in it and it could be intentional but anonymint just seemed to polish his posts a little more.

Fucking well said

and

The fact that morons are talking shit in this thread and trying to compare dick sizes saddens me greatly. You dumb fuckers should be thinking about his parting words and what they mean about the overall state of affairs.

140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ToominCoin aka "Bitcoin_Classic" #R3KT on: May 18, 2016, 03:13:45 AM
Whether we like it or not, Bitcoin simply cannot hardfork while a large part of the community does not consent to it.

how would you even measure how much of the community does consent?

i'm beginning to think a hard fork is completely impossible, except maybe for the narrow scenario where SHA-256, ECDSA or similar are broken.

maybe immutability of consensus is not worth breaking. especially when the best we seem to have to measure it is meaningless miner votes and node counts. fuck a democratic vote, especially ones that can be gamed.

i dont care about miner votes for soft forks. they can do that anyway regardless of anything we do. but for change/removal of consensus rules....no.
The best idea I know of today, would be to have an off-chain stake polling system, where coin-holders can indicate consent by a specially-designed signed message.
Probably we would also need interested parties to fund Google ads and similar to promote awareness of the new polling system, to ensure the majority of UTXOs mark their consent or dissent.
If 99% of polled stake consents to the hardfork, and a sufficient % of UTXO value participates in the polling, it'd probably be safe to move forward.

A safe hardfork can also be done which leaves old nodes "locked" rather than vulnerable to attack.
This protects any nodes that neglect/forget to upgrade in time, and can be designed such that if they really want to dissent too late, they can add a simple one-liner to bypass the "lock-out".

THIS sounds like an alt coin sir and had nothing to do with bitcoin. Bitcoin solves bitcoin within bitcoin.
