THIS should be a poll option
1042  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] State Of Crypto ? on: October 10, 2014, 01:44:12 AM
The altcoin section went from a place of brilliant open innovation( none from me) in open source which I loved and become a horrible mess of closed source scams and bullshit. It started to make me feel dirty as your team is only as good as the weakest link.

Exactly! Case in point, namecoin! How bat shit awesome is namecoin? Where is the namecoin of 2014? Where is that level of amazing?

[edit] You know thats not a fair statement... after walking away from the pc for a sec I immediately thought of two projects that brought a fair amount of awesome to the table. To be honest, there are some great devs and coins still being released. The real difference is that for everyone that meets mustard to ketch my eye, there are 500 that are bull shit clones that couldn't even be bothered to change the name of the coins in the docs.
1043  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] State Of Crypto ? on: October 10, 2014, 01:42:16 AM
I would be willing to bet that most of the responses you get in this thread will only validate your points.

My first response was way off.. though just to other meaning of the statement.

I figured sure as shit the Spoetnik fan club would pollute this topic with bs... but it really hasn't materialized...

Instead, its actually populated with some actual thoughtful and constructive posts. Who would of thunk?

Part of me really wished the crypto coin tech could be developed separately from any real financial value. Imagine this, you take 50 dev's from here and sit them down and make them WORK TOGETHER. No back stabbing, to shills, no bs. Just coding, brainstorming, progress. Sure, this is far fetched and all, but you've gotta dream right?

It's just so damn discouraging to see the business as usual mentality that has engulfed these forums and it's my opinion that a lot of the real talent thats here is being squandered due to personal agendas. We could change the world if we really wanted to and thats what really saddens me.

But this is all just hot air. A better question and discussion would be what the fuck can we do to change the tide? Now when you post in an ANN about how a coin is bull shit and does not offer anything you get your post deleted for being abusive or some nonsense. Part of me wonders if bitcointalk were to just sink into the earth and disappear, how much harder it would be for the scammers to reach enough poor sods to dupe to make scamming worth the effort.

I've officially bummed myself out. shit.

Because he blows the site operator.
He has contributed rather substantial BTC amounts for advertising purposes, huh ?

I can't imagine why Theymos is giving him safe-haven. Ill-gotten gains co-mingled with forums advertising funds and all...

Par for the course around here as of later unfortunately.

Presstab: A suggestion for the next wallet commit. Put a hyperlink to the wiki under help. Have it open a browser window rather than displaying in the coin wallet. I don't know how difficult this would be, but it sounds easy, and might help new people.

+10000

THAT is a GREAT idea!

Akula999,

So if you have coin control, then click on it.  It will show you all of your blocks (or piles) of coins.  The age listed needs to be over 8.8 days to have a chance at staking.  Potential Stake shows you how many coins you would get as a result if that block staked.

Finally, just having the wallet open is not "good enough".  You need to make sure that the wallet is unlocked.  In the top right if you see:

Lock Wallet, means that your wallet should be unlocked for staking.
Unlock Wallet, means that your wallet is locked and will not stake despite having the wallet open.  You need to click on it, enter your password, ensure that their is a checkmark in "For staking only".

OK, now we're getting somewhere. The psychologist with a business and media background came up "short". I understand English is not your first language, but come on, you must know how to formulate constructive sentences Smiley
I'm not in IT nor am I a psychologist. I'm an electrical engineer. I create electrical schematics for commercial projects. When I add a items on a blueprint, I have to explain why in detail and how I came to this. This thread is full of a lot of technical jargon. I try to keep up, but we all cant be business psychologists like you.

ibuyltc - Great explanation. First off my wallet unlocked and staking.
2nd - all coins under coin control show ages between 9.56 and 32.7.
3rd - potential stake vary from 82 to 92 for each stack of coins (30 coins up to 338 - all totaling 2200 coins).

Also, my estimated time to stake just hit 17 hours? it's never gone below 1 day.

My advice would be to combine all those coins into one block of 2200. Sure, you are going to loose all your weight by doing as such, BUT those super small blocks are going to take forever to actually stake and it would most likely be quicker just to start over.

If I only knew how to combine the coins. There is no "combine" button under coin control.

Look through this as it will give you a general idea of how to use coin control... just keep in mind you are wanting to combine, not split

OMG. I just tried it and i'm down 1000 HYP!??! I followed the directions, sent them to my address and poof they are gone?! Forget this, i quit.

Coins do not magically disappear. What is your address?

Don't bother, it's fud.

I don't know... I hate for someone to walk away because they didn't understand coin control... hell, I had a hard time wrapping my fat head around it when I first got into hyp

The new wallet version for Mac OS crashes on Snow Leo, and there are some people in Polo trollbox, who also encountered this issue.

What errors does it give?

Ok, before I go pulling my hair out I have to ask, are you running 64 bit?

Otherwise, there appears to be some major changes between your OS and those that came after it. With some research (and a shot or two) I should be able to figure it out.

*snip*
When you don’t open a wallet, your blocks accumulate weight, but the process of hashing isn’t active, just like with a miner turned off. If your wallet is open, when a block reaches the min age of 8.8 days, the process of minting begins. When a correct hash is found, you get a reward, just like with Bitcoin. You can open your wallet from time to time after 8.8 days of block maturity, but it's better to keep it open 24/7, if you have mature blocks.

Here is a more detailed article about PoS.

Hi, im new to PoS in general and i am trying to better understand how this works

1) with your wallet open and with the weight of the blocks at 0, you are not staking
2) once your wallet is closed the blocks begin to gain weight
3) after 8.8 days you are eligible for getting rewarded and this requires having the wallet open.  With the wallet open its "hashing" and eventually you will get the right hash and get rewarded?

I've also read that having your wallet encrypted and/or locked will prevent the staking from occurring is this correct?

1. Correct
2. No. Your coins gain weight after 8.8 days. Look at your coin age and think that until that many days, they are not 'hashing' for blocks
3 Correct

You can have an encrypted wallet (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!) and unlocked to stake. This can be done by first encrypting your wallet then going to Tools -> Unlock Wallet. After putting in your passphrase your wallet will stake.

IF you do not unlock an encrypted wallet it will not stake.

I hope this helps, welcome to the wonderful world of PoS. If you need more help, jump on the irc chan @ ##hyperstake on freenode.net and someone will help ya out.

As someone with no skin in this game, it is very entertaining to see the demographics show themselves of people who are too new to the crypto scene to know that bcx tends to not fuck around, and those who do.

Good luck Monero, you will probably need it

Wow just forgot that I had my main wallet running with only a single connection to my server (for security purposes)... and I updated ubuntu on my server yesterday and forgot to restart HYP on it! So my main wallet has been off on its own little forking adventure over the past 18 hours.  So you are welcome everyone for the low diff!

That actually explains a lot... Thanks! Feel free to do this more often sir!
