1481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why ASIC's Should Not Be The Future Of Crypto Currencies on: October 24, 2012, 04:56:11 AM

So the transition from CPU -> GPU is just like the transition from GPU -> FPGA which is just like the transition from FGPA -> ASIC, with the exception of the fact that there's no transition any time soon from ASIC.  It's the end of the line and you'll see stepwise improvements from here on out, not 10x or 100x increase in efficiency and hashing power.  If your first gen ASIC is power efficient, you can be mining on it through at least 3 generations of ASICs, unlike CPU, GPU and FPGAs which always had the specter of new technology making old technology obsolete.

This is an excellent point.

It will happen at the end of the year.

December 21, 2012 undoubtedly....

The Mayans knew about the Singularity  Roll Eyes
As did the Mayans, Aztecs and Chinese.

I don't really get it break it down somebody plz.
Humans are becoming consciously aware of our state of existence.  The human soul is composed of ego and consciousness.  Ego is your sense of self, it's based on all your life experiences.  Ego grows itself through fear, greed, hate, anything negative.  Consciousness is love and only grows itself off more love.  When people learn this and apply it to their life, you are able to live a life of love without hate, without negativity, without ego.  Ego is what locks us to earth physics.  When we truly reach singularity, the entire planet will be washed of ego, leaving only love.  In the absence of ego, we are not restrained to our current concept of life, anything you believe is possible.  If you tune your DNA's frequency higher, to love, you can do anything at the end of the year.  Consciousness is evolving and we all have the choice to partake, you just need love.

Sir!  Put down the bong and slowly step away!

From Wikipedia:

The technological singularity is the theoretical emergence of greater-than-human superintelligence through technological means. Since the capabilities of such intelligence would be difficult for an unaided human mind to comprehend, the occurrence of a technological singularity is seen as an intellectual event horizon, beyond which events cannot be predicted or understood.

Proponents of the singularity typically state that an "intelligence explosion", where superintelligences design successive generations of increasingly powerful minds, might occur very quickly and might not stop until the agent's cognitive abilities greatly surpass that of any human.

1487  Economy / Services / Re: Legal Advice / Answering Legal Questions on: October 22, 2012, 07:37:59 PM
Hi again,

Recently, the world may have noticed the Philippines again with its new Cybercrime law, and online libel. Have you looked into it, and what are your opinions? Almost everyone is very vocal about it, the penalty for online libel is very much higher than if you had mentioned it in print or traditional media (radio, TV.)

Of course, that's not stopping anonymous libel. (so easy to make a blog and it goes viral, and you stay anonymous, just don't be stupid.)

I obviously know very legal about the legal system in the Philippines and even less about the new Cybercrime law, so I decided to look it up.  Basically, it looks like a disaster.  Vast overreaching by the government.  It is almost blatantly obvious that it's real goal is to stifle speech, and not protect those that have been injured by false statements.

I would hope that any attempt to pass something similar here in the U.S. would met with harsh criticism, and a Constitutional challenge.

FYI

I've added two info columns to "My account" page:

1. Total hashrate for each currency (sum of all workers)
2. Estimated number of coins you can earn per day

Thanks Nolo

Thanks, it's working great and very convenient Smiley

- You can go to one of the 30 Statues and request free Bitcoins

There are 30 statues now?  There were only 24 last I checked ( 6 on the main island and the rest on the newbie island ).
Do you happen to have the coordinates for them all?  ( you can type /loc to display the coordinates ).

If you post those coordinates here be sure to include a Bitcoin donation address as well.   Wink

And herbs can range in value as high as 1 BTC:

My original recommendation stands: $70, Antec (decent brand), 750W, 80Plus Bronze. It has 4 Rails, but they're all 40A, so no load issues. Not that you'd have any load issues using 5830s anyways. Also gets good reviews: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4258/antec-hcg-750-gaming-psu/5

Great recommendations, and really good discussion in this thread.  I really appreciate the help.

Edit:  Also, I won't make another thread for such a small question, but anyone know where a person could buy motherboard standoffs locally?  I'm in a good sized city, but I don't have a Frye's or any big box type computer store near me.  And I doubt Best Buy sells those, but anywhere I'm not thinking of?

Also this morning I woke up and cgminer said DEAD where the hash rate should be.  I restarted it, and everything went back to normal.  What happened?

Yeah I am more in favour of ignoring and shaming bigots, rather than banning them, unless they are attacking or harassing someone personally.

This place is not that bad. Have you ever followed a link on the drudge report or other large right wing news aggregators, and then read the comments? lol that is a hobby of mine. It is like a KKK convention in those comment threads every time.

+1.  It really is best to let them embarrass themselves.  I'd rather not read their hate filled ignorant comments, but that is the price you pay sometimes for being in an open forum such as this one.  Sometimes the scum trickles in.  Luckily, I've never seen a blatant post like the one you quoted, but I stay away from the off-topic stuff except for the fun threads I guess.

1494  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Consolidated Litecoin Mining Guide for 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx GPUs on: October 19, 2012, 04:29:04 AM
I'm sure it's something obvious, and I'll say "duh!" as soon as I'm told, but in cgminer, what's the difference between the two hash rates reported?  For example 289.1K/285.6Kh/s
1495  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Suggestions on Power Supply? on: October 19, 2012, 03:49:21 AM
If your not worried about noise just buy anything over 800w from a reliable brand.

http://www.amazon.com/Supply-EPS12V-SLI-ready-PCI-Express-KENTEK/dp/B00596CP9E/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1350618511&sr=1-1

I'm guessing "Kentek" (whoever that is) is not a reliable brand lol

do you care about noise? the power supply you choose can make a HUGE difference in how loud the computer is.

i had a 850w thermaltake smartpower unit that was great and put out what i needed for 2x 7950's and an i5, but good lawd it was loud....

I replaced it with a corsair ax850 which is nearly silent with the same load.

that said.. an ax850, xfx 850w (80+ gold) or a seasonic 850w (80+ gold) power supply will do great. Those are all made by seasonic anyway which is an extremely high quality oem.

Nope don't care about noise.  This rig is going to be isolated from the rest of the house.  I'll look at your suggestions.  My biggest concern right now is trying to keep the price as low as possible so I'm willing to sacrifice on frills such as noise level.
1499  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Suggestions on Power Supply? on: October 18, 2012, 09:10:59 PM
Most of the threads that address the question that I've found on the subject are quite old.

So, cutting to the chase, what would be the cheapest solution for a power supply for 4 x 5830s?  (I'm willing to buy used, if someone is selling)

Thread is now [Closed].  I purchased a 5830 from jduck1987.
