The more this kind of thing is tolerated, the more hacked accounts we will see.
602  Other / Meta / Re: Ban.. ok Here comes honest appeal on: October 11, 2017, 04:25:11 PM
People should read the rules, but you shouldn't need a warning to know that plagarising and cheating isn't ok.

hilarious thats true as common sense ..

what I suggest , there should be a life line indicator for member and only he/she can see it .. like a progress bar in his profile..

it  gets increased in RED if member spamming knowing or unknowingly otherwise remains green ... it will work as self controlling and reminder,

I have seen that feature on lots of forums to control Member's spamming and it works well , and works better than just 'BAN'

it may help Mods too

Hog wash. Rules clearly state what will get you banned. That rule was broken, no second chances, end of story.
Moral of this story: Read the damn rules.

Can you sign a message using the addy here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=252783.msg2712021#msg2712021
604  Other / Meta / Re: Caution: My Hero account has been potentially compromised on: October 10, 2017, 01:51:00 AM
Ok I will wait.

Btw I just learned that signing such a generic message may be a mistake because someone else could use it to impersonate me...:

Another suggestion, I might be wrong though.

If you just put Bitcoin address or PGP key, it is easy to impose another person. A signed message is better.

False.

In reality is it the other way around.

The Bitcoin address or public PGP key cannot be use to impose another person.
Most user have this information public available in their signature, contact information, keybase.io etc.
But you need it to published somewhere in bitcoin talk in order to be able to retrieve your account if it gets stolen.

Publishing a generic signed message is not cleaver, it can be used by an imposter.
If you sign something, the message must include the purpose of the signed message and include the time/date.

This is an example of a not so cleaver signed message:
Message: "This is TookDk from Bitcointalk"
Signature: <the signature>

This is much better:
Message: "Date: 2015.03.19. The purpose of this message is to prove that TookDk from Bitcointalk is in control of bitcoin address 1TookDkVTaqsCn56Xo7aMfUMAUN3NhRjN at this point in time"
Signature: <the signature>

Makes sense. So should I sign the same address again with a better message?

Always add the current date and even time if you wish, but I would follow the above link to the letter. You could sign another here and send Cyrus the link.
605  Other / Meta / Re: Can admins see editing history of a post? on: October 10, 2017, 01:47:30 AM
I edit the post and now I see a line below the post but the upper line is still black and solid, also when I hoover over any of both lines I don't see the edited date. What im missing there? Im not sure what i should be looking at to be honest.

There's also a grace period of around 10 minutes from time you created the post. Any edits made within this interval won't add the dashed line.

I could not remember how long that grace period was, thanks for the reminder.
606  Other / Meta / Re: Caution: My Hero account has been potentially compromised on: October 10, 2017, 01:42:16 AM
I wonder who is faster recovering accounts, theymos or Cyrus. I sent it to Cyrus because he was online but I saw theymos post right now :p

If you have already sent to theymos and he fails to see the required proof, he will ignore you after that. May have a better shot with Cyrus but don't spam him to death.

Recovering hacked accounts or accounts with lost passwords
March 02, 2014, 08:45:09 PM

 #1
If you use any sort of Google email service, then the password recovery email will go to your spam folder.

If you want us to recover a hacked/lost account, you need to prove that you own it. Typically, the only acceptable method of proving ownership is by signing a message (including current date and desired new email address) using a Bitcoin address or PGP key associated with the account. A Bitcoin address or PGP key is associated with the account only if the account posted the key/address, sent it in a PM, or if it is still listed in the account's profile.

I very rarely recover accounts if you can't prove ownership as described above. There are alternative ways of proving ownership, but they take too much time. If I point you to this thread, you can't prove ownership properly, and then I ignore your future PMs, this means that I'm not going to recover your account. Create a new one.

Send one PM to either me or Cyrus. When sending a PM, use a template like this:

Quote
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
My account <account> has been hacked/lost. Please reset the email to <email>. The current date is <date>.
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----
<insert address here>
<insert signature here>
-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: ...
OR
I sent that address to someone in a PM with PM ID#...

All required info must be in one PM.

Do not create your temporary account using the same email address you want for the hacked/lost account. No two accounts can have the same email address.
607  Other / Meta / Re: Can admins see editing history of a post? on: October 10, 2017, 01:35:42 AM
Example:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.msg10820790#msg10820790

Since the post has been edited, I would NOT see this as proof of ID. I have actually seen 2 accounts work together to edit posts to try and claim an account.
608  Other / Meta / Re: Can admins see editing history of a post? on: October 10, 2017, 01:29:36 AM
Look at my last post above.
609  Other / Meta / Re: Caution: My Hero account has been potentially compromised on: October 10, 2017, 01:21:37 AM
All you can do is wait. Account recovery is low priority.
610  Other / Meta / Re: Can admins see editing history of a post? on: October 10, 2017, 01:18:07 AM
I see so many people getting their accounts hacked lately, it's pretty crazy. I think it must be mostly due unsafe email providers or something.

Anyway, I've seen that the best way to get your account back is to sign a message with a BTC address you control, but I see people quoting their addresses on this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0

This makes me thing that for some reason admins can't see edited posts?

In that case I guess I will go there and post an address. There's still the insanely unlucky event that the guy hacks your account and the account quoting your address and edits both but I guess that would be like getting hit by an asteroid or something.

See that solid black line under the title? If it's edited, it will be dashed, not solid and if you hover over it, it will show the last edited date.
Edit: It will have a dashed line under the Date/Time with a solid under that.
You can also archive your posted addy.
611  Other / Meta / Re: HELP, SOMEONE CHANGE MY PASSWORD AND I CAN'T RECOVER on: October 09, 2017, 08:35:38 PM

Do you still have access to this addy: http://archive.fo/rt5sU
612  Other / Meta / Re: Caution: My Hero account has been potentially compromised on: October 09, 2017, 07:36:45 PM
I have sent the PM as explained on that thread to admin "Cyrus" a couple of hours ago. How much does it take in average to get this type of thing solved? Im worried the hacker causes havok in my account.

Here's an screenshot of the post containing the BTC address I used to sign in case hacker modifies it:

Plus there's also that same address on the google spreadshet of the sig campaign.

In any case, if hacker modifies the post, I can sign any other address from ages ago in some locked thread, I think I should have one in the Bitmixer thread, but please act fast im worried.

How about this addy: http://archive.fo/tBwvf
613  Other / Meta / Re: WARNING - my original account was hacked and stolen on: October 08, 2017, 07:06:38 PM
Find an BTC address posted by the account. Sign a message to confirm ownership. To do so, read this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0. Optionally post it here and I will neg. rate the account until recovered.
what address, where? I never posted any BTC addresses here.
Then you're likely out of luck. You have to provide sufficient proof that you are the original owner of the account kiffner.
Is there any other way to prove I am owner of that account?

Read the thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0

http://archive.fo/oeODR

Can you sign a message with the addy in the link?

I don't think I have access to that address anymore but I can check later. Would the BTC address associated with the selly  account not work?

I would not accept it but I am not theymos.
Did you read the sticky to see what is acceptable proof?

616  Other / Meta / Re: Why my account is banned ?? on: October 07, 2017, 04:21:19 PM
Copy and pasting.

Thank You for helping.

I see that your account has long replies on different topics but you're not quoting on whether what post you are replying. Another thing is that you are a post bursting the forum with a little amount of time for each post. Like 1-10mins. These things are considered spamming. Other than that, I can't any more reasons so you just have to wait for a Staff member to look at your account to know the real reason but I doubt one of it is Spamming.

Edit: looks like hilarious has answered it above

Thank You helping, this will help me in the Future and just one thing more, is this thing necessary
but you're not quoting on whether what post you are replying ?

In the future?

My account is banned, can I know the reason?
My account: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=928856;sa=summary
I feel the same with you, I am also still confused why until banned. I do not feel copying someone's posts, all my posts are private from my own.

Doesn't matter how you "feel". You must follow the rules like everyone else or you get banned. Roll Eyes
I have obeyed the rules of this diforum, even I am very careful because I know the consequences if I do it. but I'm honest if I do not do that.

You are breaking a rule right now by posting outside your Meta thread on being banned.
618  Other / Meta / Re: Why my account is banned ?? on: October 07, 2017, 03:32:01 PM
Copy and pasting.
What should I do to make you believe that I did not do it? It could be that my post happens to be the same as everyone else, not just me who made the post. In this forum almost all countries have to ngpost, I hope to reopen my account. because my daily earnings are only from here.

You need to post in your own Meta thread.
