3881  Economy / Economics / Re: Current Food Shortage and Economic Decline Caused by Pandemic on: June 17, 2020, 04:18:21 PM
The shortages which we are discussing are not really the problem, because there isn’t any. When corona outbreak started at that time all the essential services were up and running. The industries were never shut down, all they had is cut down the employees to 50% but at the same time production was running.

The stuff only got stuck into the transports, roads were closed and boundaries were made city to city and state to state etc.

This surely slowed down the process for while but it did not stop the Quantitative production.

Yes things got messy due to this but if you carefully look out the curves of corona in some countries then it’s becoming normal, flatter.

Yes we are in economic crisis but surely no shortages are there. Economic crisis is because of industries such as automobile, average cash flow in banks, IT industries etc.

The survey revealed many firms are increasingly prioritizing blockchain technology and the potential of digital assets in the future.

May be it's just associated with the use of current blockchain technology so that these giants can implement its characteristic for their internal use. I don't see it's potential effect on "crypto currencies" if you are thinking that way. This is anyway public ledger and anyone can use its potential.

Considering the banking sectors and it's security which is always at highest stake may do such adoption.

Some of them might just be using it for added security of their data centers and robust use of irreversible content destruction.

It's not limited to transactions or money stuff but it overwhelms it's potential. So those companies who got surveyed could be actually versatile, such as, marketing firms, website hosting, e-commerce, banks, credit cards, data storage or clouds etc.
3883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin Is Old Tech But.... on: June 17, 2020, 02:52:55 AM
If Bitcoin is old tech, hard to scale,  and slow transaction speed, why don't we turn our focus to another cryptocurrency which solves these challenges? Is Bitcoin just enjoying the benefits of the first? How long would this be?

It's not enjoying any benefits of being first, all it has gotten is it's reliability property of transactions. I mean how many altcoins are there ? Many more but still none of them were able to handle the purpose of transactions with great efficiency.

I couldn't imagine bitcoin getting old, rather it will keep improving in its network, compatibility and way it works. It would be hard to say when more patches will come for upgradation or may not even come looking at it's ideal framework right now.

The final coin will be minted in 2145, it's not old yet.

Lost Coins,
there is still no way to count how many coins are lost. so those black squares are (like always) coins that have not moved.

You can see that nice chunk of coins is kept on exchanges (sadly)  Undecided
why sadly?
you could look at it as bitcoin trading volume being high as a lot of people trade bitcoin every second of every day that means a lot of liquidity on exchanges which translates into a large volume being in exchange wallets.

Yes, it's actually good that huge number is getting counted in exchanges. I think they are nothing but holdings and tradings in buy-sell orders by large number of crypto traders. It's fantastic portfolio that can be seen with this picturised presentation.

I think Op might be suggesting it's dangerous to hold your coins over an exchanger since it is prone to get hacked and with past experiences we know very well that is true case.

That affect the exchange owner and user but I believe this frame stays still. Smiley
3885  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can others compare to bitcoin's values? on: June 16, 2020, 04:45:29 PM
Blockchain in broader sense also comes with more benefit and I love one quality the most, "Immutable".

Even if you Google it you will see big articles stating immutability of the blockchain. The literal meaning states that something after its creation can not be modified.

Thus, if you want to change it you simply can't. Any transaction that is broadcasted on the blockchain sticks there permanently and no one can revert it by any means. That reminds me work art of SHA with its unimaginable output logic which can never be used for identifying what was in the input.

"The Concealed" property of blockchain.
3886  Other / Meta / Re: "Forum User's Day" on: June 16, 2020, 02:33:33 PM
And how do you suggest planning this for rest of the users ?

I am not sure if you want it only for specific users (mods, staff, theymos etc. ) or for everyone on the forum. Because making it for everybody would be chaotic and could be unrealistic. Also why would anyone want to come here and spend hours to reply on questions beings thrown in on them.

Besides, forum is doing great. There is great knowledge library around if you search at right place. Well known list of members whom you can always see replying to every important discussion.

It's good in all senses.
3887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I sent 200 USDT to a USDC address. Is it possible to recover funds? on: June 16, 2020, 12:15:55 PM
snip

Since most of them are against the reversal process he may loose the funds now.

All exchanges will always provide clear instructions or a note stating that Do Not send XYZ coins to this address other than ABC coins. These instructions are there to reduce the chaotic reversal process.

Always remember that it's very critical to check your ERC20 address on exchanger while sending the coins.

What others stated above is fair enough to know that BTC transaction might get delayed, take too much long due low fees etc. but it will never happen that BTC never ended up in the final destination address.

There were hundred thousands of transactions those were pending for more than 5-6 days in the late 2017 when transaction acceleration came into boom.

That was the longest delay I had experience myself. But it finally got into my wallet.

Bitcoin Network Reaches a Record 150,000 Unconfirmed Transactions

This was the time when people almost thought that nobody will ever get their bitcoins back again. Close case to what you talking.

1 - Zero or even negative interest rates.  As interest rates are too low, instutional investors are going more and more to stocks.

Correct. This can happen in the first place rather it might be the case in current scenario. Who wouldn't want to invest in such low time IF they have got money in their pockets. I'm pretty sure big guys will lure the market with their crude investment when stocks are going zeros. Economic crisis is first step where thoughtful investment can be done easily to avail profits in future.

No stock is gonna stay zero forever, no stock will stay steady for long time. So it's just about the time when everything resets and people go on earning profits. Loads of it.

So yes, institutional investors outbreak is real.  Cheesy
3890  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is bitcoin worth so much ? on: June 14, 2020, 12:03:13 PM
Ethereum has virtually unlimited supply while BTC is capped to 21 million coins.
...Moreover, you get value because investors keep buying it.
That's a 15.36 % loss just from exchange cost
More expensive the WU,direct bank transfer, paypal etc ...

Impossible.

15% loss in single transaction will never happen. There is no such movement in bitcoin where it moved up and down in its price with so much difference.

Also if you send 1000 USD to Person B, then you actually input 1000 USD in amount to be sent while the TX Fees are added differently.

In the screenshot below you will see how it works. YOU will pay the FEES, and Person B receives 1000 USD not less and not more.

The Volatility that you talking about is not that hard. User can always cashout as soon as they receive the 1000 USD.

Everything has their pros and cons.

Banks can track you, track your transactions and identity. You have limits on your transaction.

In case of crypto that is reverse and more confidential. May be that evens it out.
3891  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is bitcoin worth so much ? on: June 14, 2020, 10:39:27 AM
Ethereum has virtually unlimited supply while BTC is capped to 21 million coins.

Out of this 18,404,300 BTC are in circulation. If you understand the basic principle of Demand and Supply then it would be easy to grasp this. The demand is heavy for bitcoin while it's supply is limited.

After each 4 years it will go under halving thus reducing its rewards per block, making it more costly to mine for miner. Since it use Energy to mine via miners, the energy required is now more and more.

This is converted into money later when people buy it.

It will keep rising since energy requirements to mine the coin will keep rising throughout the time, and also supply will keep reducing.

Moreover, you get value because investors keep buying it.

Yes as you might have got confused with the title let me share a shocking news today. It has been traced that someone for sure has accidentally paid $2.6 million in fees just to pay $ 135!.

That would have made the guy jump off the cliff. That's seriously insane.

The transaction fees were sent to the "SparkPool" and they might have graciously gone into shock as well.

I think they are still investigating the matter and may eventually return the fees to keep their rapo to highest.

3899  Other / Meta / Re: UP Button for post - For original poster on: June 01, 2020, 03:05:35 PM
An alternative could be the edit option. If changes are made to threads, and the updates could get lost in the replies, the OP can edit the original topic, and bump up the thread so it increases visibility.
This quote from theymos suggests that he may not want to allow thread starters to have extra benefits:
The purposes of the unofficial rule are:
2. Prevent people from monopolizing pages of topics, which is unfair to other posters.

Well, bump is always an option to each thread. I mean if OP just comment in it then thread automatically comes up and users get directed to it.

But, over the time mega threads get fill up very fast and we literally have to go through each page and check the update. I mean by the time minute hand moves there would be 3-4 pages added already. The new reader will come and see people debating but has to go back and check what is it all about.

About the theymos rule, up button won't break it because it will be limited to the OP only and not everyone in that particular thread. If we are already given reserved option then by UP movement of later updates would be same thing only the extra benefit is that OP can do so at any time.

Although I could have used this, I think it's a bad idea. I barely go back to read updates in the first post(s). Forum users read new posts, so if there's any news to add, add it as a new posts.

For exmaple: In signature campaigns, the manager might tell us about new openings, OR in some big threads like those of MERIT history, Bitcointalk updates where big debates are going on, some good announcements to be made etc etc.
You can edit the OP with the latest additions, and quote that part as a new post to bring it to the attention of existing readers.

Yes, we don't go to the first post but when we reach the updates late, you have to find the new update in the newly added pages. The same thing which I said for above reply.

In your quoted link if you had UP button option then your list could have been continued to previous one! Easy track.

Of course I can quote, but it will be lost in the new pages.

For example;

See how people are behaving in this campaign thread, and how others are making efforts to tell new people that there had been an update which they should follow!!

OP's NEW UPDATE

PEOPLE telling OTHER PEOPLE to CHECK UPDATE

The UP button as you can imagine one can move the post upwards and bring it to the top of rest OR just below the original post.

Who?
Only the original poster will have this option available. Since in his thread he is the updater we concerned about.
There are many other threads, sections where this can be useful function.

I just imagine the idea of having a pinned post then I come up with this kind of idea that the OP can transfer on the top the thread.

This could be good idea as well. But for keeping layout to the current form just a small UP button would do most of the work.

So this idea could get 50/50 marks.

In some instances as LoyceV said they barely go to first page to check the updates. But lets think about mega threads like old campaigns, bounties, and debate threads there it can be helpful.

Also once everyone knows about this option then they will surely check the first page. It would take few days but everyone will get hands on it.

3900  Other / Meta / UP Button for post - For original poster on: June 01, 2020, 06:33:55 AM
The UP button as you can imagine one can move the post upwards and bring it to the top of rest OR just below the original post.

Why?

Many times we make an original post and then put reserved post in the second and third place as per the requirement. Everyone is fine with that. But this second place might be for some specific updates.

In later times there might be instances we send an update that is important but posted in the middle of no where!

For exmaple: In signature campaigns, the manager might tell us about new openings, OR in some big threads like those of MERIT history, Bitcointalk updates where big debates are going on, some good announcements to be made etc etc.

In such case one can post it in middle of no where but to get the attention of everyone s/he can easily move that comment at the TOP by clicking the UP button.

Let me know what you think about this idea.
