1361  Economy / Services / Re: Art contest: win some BTC, shape the visual future of Bitcoin gaming. on: June 27, 2013, 03:53:09 PM
Congrats to likehiro, the contest winner, who may well be a promising talent and who was the only serious participant. The rest of you can take this time to reflect upon your failure to achieve anything in the face of gracious opportunity. The whole story's over @Trilema.

Congrats, likehiro! Well done.

We've been working on some heraldry for an unrelated project, I'll see if any of the actual artists here at the studio can scare anything up.
1362  Economy / Goods / Casascius 0.5 BTC coins in CANADA on: June 27, 2013, 12:58:44 PM
We all hate getting dinged by costly customs and duty fees at the border, so why not order your Casascius 0.5 BTC physical bitcoins from a fellow Canadian? Let customs keep their grubby hands to themselves!

Each coin has an intact hologram, and has only been handled with cotton gloves. Only BTC1 plus actual shipping cost!

With an extremely limited minting of only 7000-7500 units, these 0.5 BTC coins are set to become extremely valuable once the original supply is depleted. Don't wait until the price skyrockets like the 2011 coins, which are now selling for 5x their face value. Grab some today Cheesy

Some scammers are getting scammed themselves?

Sounds like the opposite of the greater fool...oh wait. Nevermind.

Being the lesser wise doesn't seem as bad, somehow   Wink
1364  Economy / Goods / Re: [CLOSED] [29/24] Grilled Cat Identity silkscreened t-shirts! $10+S&H on: June 27, 2013, 12:29:05 AM
Hey do you have 1 or 2 mediums left?

I meant to purchase some when I saw this the other day but my bitcoins were busy and now that they're ready to go I see you're CLOSED!    Huh

Sorry! The screens have been reclaimed, no more t-shirts of this design. Sad
1365  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: June 26, 2013, 03:11:57 PM
If we have a balanced market it should drop the same percentage that the dividend is of the share price. If it drops more, it means there is a profit in selling your shares before dividend payments, and buying it back afterwards. And if it drops less, it means there is a profit to be made in buying shares before a dividend payment and selling it afterwards.

So in a balanced market the price will drop each week by the dividends until it hits zero? Roll Eyes

No. The price will then subsequently rise by the expected amount of the next dividend over the course of the week (at a pace that reaches equilibrium with the markets discount rate for the security).

With a 0.017 per share dividend, we're talking about a drop from, say, BTC3.417 to BTC3.400. That's a pretty small drop to try measuring.
1366  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: June 26, 2013, 02:11:08 PM
And being "forced to sell" and taking a huge profit is a problem in what respect?

Nobody ever went bust taking a huge profit.

I think it comes down to personal preference: slow & steady means you don't have to keep checking the exchanges for the perfect time to sell. Fast & furious means you get rich quicker.

Long-time shareholders are already filthy rich, but now feel as if they're being forced into action.

As far as problems go, this isn't a major one  Cool
1367  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASICMINER Blade Sales [Temporarily Out of Stock] on: June 26, 2013, 01:24:52 PM
I'm fine with throwing away single BTCs on toys, but once you get into double-digits, it's less of an impulse buy.

I'd purchase a blade at <BTC20, but that's the upper limit.
1368  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter and Raspberry Pi on: June 26, 2013, 01:19:41 PM
is anyone running thier Pi and USBASICs off the same USB hub? or is it recommended to run the Pi off a seperate PSU?

I'm running five erupters and my pi off a Rosewill hub with no problems.

rosewill hub? i've only heard of ankers and the dlink hub... how many ports do you get on the rosewill?

BTW is there a list of test/working hubs for RPi mining? im using my PC atm but wnat to move to my RPi for obvious power saving reasons Tongue

Sorry, I'm only seeing this now.

I think Rosewill is newegg's in-house brand. Mine is a 10-port, 3.5A (model RHB-520). There's a switch to enable all 10 ports or just the first 6, but I'm not sure if this causes a drop in the first 6 ports, so I've left it off. 6 was fine for me, anyway, as I only had 5 erupters and the pi.

For the record, that specific Rosewill hub wasn't listed in the RPi compatibility charts, but another Rosewill model was. They probably all work.
1369  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: June 26, 2013, 01:12:58 PM
Guys, we need to ground ourselves.

You do not want the price just going up constantly. No matter how good it feels to just watch your investment inflate, every bubble pops in the end.

The stock has risen 1BTC in like 2 weeks, be happy!

Start thinking of ways to protect your investment, diversify, etc. Or hell, (no offense intended), do something productive yourself!

2BTC in less than two months Smiley

I, for one, welcomed the BTC3.4 wall, as I was starting to get uncomfortable with the % of my portfolio invested in AM.

Brazil, Greenland, Uruguay, and a few tiny islands. There's also a UTC-2:30, not sure which category that would fall under in the stats.

Also Nuuk in Greenland I suppose.

I've also stepped up to the plate and sent a donation to MineForeman, as he's both saved me some time and made me some money this past couple of weeks  Cool

Thanks for that by the way.

Neil

What I was wondering is whether a straight-up BTC donation would appear as donated hashing in your stats... I'm at UTC-2:30 Smiley

(and thank YOU)

That argument doesn't mean you are entitled to charge 40+ USD equivalent for GH.

Yes it does.

If you make something, aren't you entitled to charge whatever you want for it?
1372  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB Sales [New Sales Policy with New Price] on: June 26, 2013, 12:43:44 PM
What is the best powered USB hub to run 5-10 of these.

Newegg's Rosewill RHB-520 will power 5 erupters plus the Pi. It's got 10 ports, but not enough amperage to drive them all.

Did you create that image? The ASICMINER logo would look great on a t-shirt...

There is someone mining in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean

Got coordinates?

Looking to send a missile? Tongue

No, I have no coordinates, what I was refering to was this line;-

TZ  5Min MH/s
02      28.92

All that really means is that someone has set their timezone to Atlantic time (UTC +2) or someone was setting up their rig at that moment and had not put their own pool address in (it mines using the donation address until you put your own pool in).

As I said, the data is actually fairly useless and does not really mean much.  There is no way I could identify anyone with it, I just did it for fun while on the phone.

EDIT: was it this?

Sell on Ebay for ~$150 (half of what they're selling for now) = ~$12600

They're not selling for $300 on eBay anymore. None of those buyers are going to pay up when they see new auctions for $110.
1377  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB Sales [New Sales Policy with New Price] on: June 25, 2013, 08:30:28 PM
destroy the network difficulty with them before shipping them out

1) Manufacturer deploys xTH/s of customer-purchased hardware
2) Network difficulty destroyed
3) Manufacturer unplugs hardware to send to customers
4) Network difficulty un-destroyed
5) Customers deploy xTH/s of hardware
6) Network difficulty destroyed
7) Huh
1378  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB Sales [New Sales Policy with New Price] on: June 25, 2013, 06:22:35 PM
That would mean they pay themselves off in 3-4 months assuming current difficulty

Emphasis mine. Assume huge jumps in difficulty, like we've seen recently, and you get different numbers.
1379  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB Sales [New Sales Policy with New Price] on: June 25, 2013, 03:53:26 PM
Lol, I bet.

"Damn, didnt get them on ebay soon enough!!"

This is why you pay for express shipping  Cool
1380  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB Sales [New Sales Policy with New Price] on: June 25, 2013, 03:42:19 PM
I agree there are many differences between inaba and friedcat.  But I believe he is damaging their brand badly with this poorly considered pricing policy.

It sounds like you have a bunch of BTC2 miners at your house. How many?

Brand damage is directly related to the public's memory; six months from now, nobody's going to care or even remember that a few people overpaid for the privilege of being a bleeding-edge early adopter. Note how we don't weep for those who paid $1200 for a PS3 on day one.
