90% of ASICMINER shares aren't even on exchanges.

I read that stat earlier today -- I had no idea. Imagine!

So let's call it a 9:1 ratio?

1262  Economy / Goods / Re: [2/20] Casascius 1BTC silver round USA/CANADA Group Buy on: July 04, 2013, 03:48:21 PM
This buy didn't get much traction, but I still really want some of these coins, so I've decided to drop the price to BTC2 plus S&H.

Please see the OP for updated pricing and shipping info.
1263  Economy / Goods / Re: ASICMiner Fan Club t-shirt design contest on: July 04, 2013, 03:37:40 PM
another option is to collect enough funds to submit a project to a site like crowdspring and get an even larger, world-wide crowd of designers to take a stab at this...
this would acomplish 2 things:
- you get top, world class designers to compete for a design.
- you introduce all said designers to bitcoins  Grin
- you can run a poll that would be open to donators who funded crowdspring design to help select the ultimate winner
- probably a few more i'm forgetting here...

i have used crowdspring before... and I'd be happy to facilitate this if there's interest.

Interested... how much... NAME YOUR PRICE!!!

This does indeed sound interesting.

I'm leaving for a two-week vacation in western Canada on the 20th, so I may look into this when I get back... wouldn't want to leave the project in limbo, and I'll be deep in the mountains, so internet access won't be reliable/available. Smiley

With the dip in bitcoin, I just sent more then needed, just send the change (if you feel i deserve any) to the address.  Will PM you my address now!

Thanks! I've added you to the OP.

I had a few people overpay in the first group buy, and I used those funds to send out free shirts to deserving people; next on my list is SmiGueL, for providing the inspiration for this design. I can return your change at the current rate, or I can put it in the donation bin... your choice Smiley

So to all you "Investors" that keep claiming 5 BTC is low, why aren't you snapping up all these shares?

At the risk of being cheeky, they aren't snapping up the shares because they dumped them all at 4.7-4.9 yesterday.

I disagree with your statement that share price won't drop to 4.5 once it passes 5; all I can see are those "hold, spartans!" memes on /r/Bitcoin when BTC/USD was $200+.

I should also mention that I'm not trying to antagonize people by being pessimistic. The "sky's the limit" crowd is a mixture of (a) genuinely optimistic investors, and (b) people trying to keep the price high while they cash out. Devil's advocates are necessary in times like these Wink

Care to take a guess as to the (a):(b) ratio?

Thank you!  already cross posted to Asciminer.info, will post to reddit in 6 min.
Thanks a lot aahzmundus. Its good to get a short, condensed version of what's happening because it's nearly impossible to extract it from this thread.

You want to see impossible, head over to fuckcombustion.com and pretend you're in the market for a vaporizer. 800+ page threads of stoners bickering about glass airpaths and the best method for ingesting "medicine"  Grin

We should coin "eriked".

How about "s-diced"?

"Voorheed" has a certain ring to it.

Managed to scoop up ~BTC30 worth of discount shares at Havelock early this morning. It pays to be in the right time zone Wink

ALL open BID orders at or above 0.044 for ASICM have been CANCELLED, since the price of ASICM has dropped fairly significantly during our downtime.

Right on! That's making the best of a bad situation.

This is the THIRD t-shirt group buy I've done; check out the first one here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=230843.0 and the second one here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=246518.0.

The friedcat fan club t-shirts were a hit, so I'm once again honoring someone who has helped bring ASIC mining to a lot of people: CanaryInTheMine!

This shirt features a three-color print on 100% cotton black t-shirt. Mens sizes are available, from S to XXL; ladies junior fit (you've been warned!) are available in some sizes only, so you'd better ask.

Cost:
If we can get 24 orders, the cost per shirt is $18 plus shipping.
If we can get 50 orders, the price drops to $15 plus shipping.

In the event that we reach 50 shirts, I will refund the difference in BTC to everyone who paid the higher amount (really!).

In the event that we don't reach 24 shirts, you can choose to pay a higher price, or receive a full refund.

Blank shirts are en route, and I'll start printing and mailing orders on July 8, assuming we reach 24 orders.

Shipping to Canada: $4
Shipping to USA/Int'l: $10
Please add $2 extra shipping for each additional shirt.

At today's prices:
Total for 1 shirt including shipping is in Canada and to USA/International.
Total for 2 shirts including shipping is in Canada and to USA/International.
Total for 3 shirts including shipping is in Canada and to USA/International.

While a business can invest to increase its reputation, by advertising or assuring that its products are of high quality, such expenses cannot be booked as contributing to goodwill. There is hence a disconnect: goodwill from acquisitions can be booked, since it is derived from a market or purchase valuation, but similar internal spending cannot be booked, although it will be recognized by investors who compare a company's market value with its book value.

I think this implies booking an expenditure such as this as goodwill is wrong, but I could be reading this incorrectly?

Emphasis mine; what counts as an acquisition? They've got BTC1.337 worth of artwork, acquired from a contest winner.

Your reading of "acqusition" is not correct. The type of goodwill that the article is referring to is when one company acquires another, the difference between the purchase price and the Book value + FMV adjustments is treated as goodwill on the B/S of the acquirer. Goodwill is basically the extent to which the acquirer "overpays" for the identifiable assets of the business.

I suspected as much (used to work for a hungry insurance underwriter). Thanks for the clarification.

Without trying to start an argument, I was curious why the S.MG art contest payout was listed as an asset and not an expense?

Any framework or set of criteria with respect to capitalization vs. expensing that is loose enough to deem the contest payout to be capital in nature can be used to justify capitalized just about every other expense imaginable. There is a reason that preexisting standards are so stringent with respect to capitalization criteria (identifiability, future economic benefit, measurability, etc).  This all seems to be lost on MP.

This led me to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodwill_(accounting)

Seems like they've left a lot in the mining wallet this time around.

Another xfer just went out.
