very bad performance of Rune that has lost against Kecmanović in this first match in Sweden tournament Sad A bit disappointing as defeat, with second set as a complete disaster Sad
The odds was of course in favor of him...and I was tempted to try but Roll Eyes I was lucky enough.

Another shocking result today was Marcos Giron defeating 2nd seed Casper Ruud in straight sets 6:3, 6:4. Another person to follow closely is Ben Shelton. Young American rising star won against Aussie Jordan Thompson in the Round of 16: 6:7,6:4,6:3. I see lots of potential in this player, Ben is likely one of the young players who could confront Carlos Alcaraz in the years to come.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

That are big words! Never heard of Ben Shelton before but there a lot of talented young players but very few will really make it to the top. It is not because they have 1 good tournament where they beat some good players, that they will become the next nr 1 of the world or will be able to compete against Djokovic or Alcaraz time after time.

BIG WINNER!

Tsitsipas - I'm not interested at all, I stopped being interested about a year or
so ago, up to about a year ago he was promising so much and was going to be a #1
contender and all that, but it never happened.

IMO he needs to get away from the family involvement, he needs a proper coach and team.
He expects instant results though as soon as a new coach is employed and if it doesnt
work out its back to daddy.

He is currently in 7th spot in the rankings and runs the risk of being bumped to 8th if
Ruud can catch him.

I am actually still pretty much hopeful about him, to be honest. And I am also pretty sure that he can perform far better compared to what he has shown so far. Well at least better, if not far better.  He has an easy match coming up in the European Open. I am pretty sure that he is going to win that match.

About him staying away from his family, I agree with you on that point. Because him being too much involved with all the family issues, actually him being involved too much with his family is the reason why he is being held back. He needs to realise that.

Mentioning such an amazing talents in the game, Ben Shelton is an agile young incredible tennis ball player, he has a career-high ATP ranking 19 and he's not relenting as he's keen on exploring his career at such a tender age. He's currently 21 years old and have turned to be a prominent player, he earned the deserved credits because he work for it. We have numerous talented players in the space, they're 100% ready to exhibits the basis of their talented skills, they targets elite competitions and they don't hesitate to showcase when it's the crucial time to deliver.

Ben Shelton is a very promising youngster. I cant believe you havent heard of him....
He reached a semi final this year in the US Open to be beaten by Djokovic and
he reached the quarter final of the Shanghai Masters last week to be beaten just about
by Korda.

I think he has a real chance of reaching the final at Japan, his biggest rivals now who
are left playing is Fritz, Paul and de Minaur IMO.

It's really incredible how inconsistent the current top players are.

If you remove Alcaraz and Đoković, there's not a player you can guarantee will reach an end phase of top tournaments consistently.
Medvedev will do his thing on hard, but other than that - it's basically a coin toss. Rune, Ruud, Tsitsipas, Zverev.. - simply not good enough.

From that next gen that was so hyped I really liked Sinner, and I'm glad to see him climbing up the rankings. I hope some of these players improve soon, otherwise Đoković will be winning tournaments aged 47 and Alcaraz will have 14 grand slams before he's able to drive a car in the USA.

They are good for a while but suddenly they can perform very badly beyond what we ever imagined. Currently, Ben Shelton is in pretty good condition, especially as many of the top players are not playing at ATP Tokyo because maybe they are focusing on the tournament in Europe soon which is also close to the last ATP Masters this year, so when Shelton can achieve good things it hasn't really been tested because it was proven in previous tournaments that he can't compete with other top players, and young players are often like that, like Holger Rune whose name keeps being mentioned when he can beat Djokovic, but it is slowly becoming difficult to last longer in one tournament, only a few are consistent, the rest will win in one tournament and immediately lose in the early round of the next tournament, and in this tournament Taylor Fritz has a real chance of winning, with only a few seeded players remaining.

Not to forget Felix Auger-Aliassime. His defeats this year are a common thread throughout this period. He has only been able to celebrate very few successes. Now he did reach the final of the last 8 in Tokyo and won against Vukic and Ofner in the games before.
My opinion is that he should change a few members in his team. But so far I do not see any changes.

With Felix AA it's a bit different story imho. His biggest mistake was hiring Tony Nadal. Tony destroyed him when he refused to sit in his box at a match vs Rafa. I know that was a clause in their contract but anyway. Knowing your coach is actually cheering for your opponent is painful. After that incident Felix's career started to fade.

That is what I meant by saying that he should a few members in his team. But I did not know about the story with Rafa. I will have to take a look at youtube to see what happened there. But it shows that the team around a player is important for his career.

Ben Shelton is a very promising youngster. I cant believe you havent heard of him....
He reached a semi final this year in the US Open to be beaten by Djokovic

Ben Shelton has had a good development this year. His breakthrough came definitely at the US Open. He only lost straight in 3 sets against Djokovic and showed a lot of nerves in the matches before. I am curious to see how he develops in the next month.

Actually thats a fairly accurate synopsis if the current situation. Its actually getting
closer to what its like on the WTA, the top players are very inconsistent, even Swiatek
is becoming unpredictable.

At this stage it is really only Djokovic has the luxury of showing up and reaching the
end stages of a tournament. I guess he is only is more focussed on records now at
this stage.

Even Alcaraz is a bit unpredictable, he gets beaten when we expect him to progress.

very bad performance of Rune that has lost against Kecmanović in this first match in Sweden tournament Sad A bit disappointing as defeat, with second set as a complete disaster Sad

There have been several matches with unexpected results and this time luck was on Marcos Giron side to beat Casper Ruud who is the favorite player.
I didn't watch it but was surprised when I read notification on one of the subscription sports broadcasts which indicated that Casper Ruud could lose embarrassingly.

Well we can follow the development of Ben Shelton who is young American tennis player who has really shown his talent this year.
From what he has managed to achieve it is very likely that he can become competitor for Alcaraz in the future.
Ben Shelton also managed to get his highest ranking in the ATP namely 19th last month.

Once the big three are all done we will see the inconsistency always. Djokovic is only one left from big three that is always getting titles now. Alcaraz only takes some away from him and i think once Djokovic retires ,Alcaraz will dominate easily. But as you can see in women tennis there is not a single players that wins tournament in a row like Djokovic does in atp tennis

That are big words! Never heard of Ben Shelton before but there a lot of talented young players but very few will really make it to the top. It is not because they have 1 good tournament where they beat some good players, that they will become the next nr 1 of the world or will be able to compete against Djokovic or Alcaraz time after time.

Fritz is out already, surprisingly lost to a Japanese wildcard Shintaro Mochizuki in three sets 0-6, 6-4, 7-6(2). Fun fact: the American was leading 5-2 in the third set but Mochizuki managed to break him several times in a row. End of season tennis can be unpredictable sometimes.

Not at the moment, but Serena Williams was a player who dominated WTA tennis for quite a long time. I think what makes this generation of players so special, I mean the players like Djokovic, Nadal and Federer and then for the women players it is mostly Serena Williams, is that they managed their fitness so well and maintained their health such that they all could play on the highest level until their late 30s. This is really not normal for any sport. Djokovic understands how to keep control over the work load he wants his body to cope with and this may be the key for him to be playing for a few more years and remain as dominant as he is. Too bad though that we most likely won't see another final between him and Nadal again. Nadal had some good news recently, but I doubt that he will be able to play a full calendar year with all Grand Slams and then also make it to the finals. I hope it will happen, but I fear it won't.

Just an insane result, wasnt expecting this even in a dream that he loses to such a low ranked player but this is what makes tennis intresting. Fritz dropped in form and i seen a poen that a Japanese player scored and it was just insane, its just when its your day you nake every shot

Ben Shelton v Tommy Paul is going to be a hell of a match. This American derby caught my eye in the quarterfinal draw. Tommy Paul is not in his best form atm after losing in first round in a series of tournaments. The last time he showed decent tennis was at US Open this year, where he reached the Round of 16. And guess who knocked him out? That's right, that was Ben Shelton.  Roll Eyes

It isn't the expected result. Just on this we can't be conclusive Fritz have gone out of form. The first set was really good that he dominated it with the win 6-0. Maybe this could've kept him high in confidence where Mochizuki gave a comeback and won the set 6-4. Final set have got the pressure and both gave the best and at some point unexpected performance from the opponent makes the best go down. It happened with Fritz and lost the set 62-77

And it continues with the poor performance of Felix Auger-Aliassime. He managed to win two games in a row. But against Giron from USA it was over and he lost in two sets. So it comes to a semi-final between the USA. Shelton against Giron. Shelton is the favourite in this match and he has the possibility to enter the final. And how it looks, he will win this tournament in Tokyo.

Fils v Varillas
Varillas is a racket we know for his good clay court game, but here he surprised everyone, beating Marozsan and Shevchenko. He is up against the talented young Fils. Fils is one of the most effective servers on the tour and he showed that he can be good under pressure, winning 2 tie-breaks against Lajal. I'd say he's close to victory again today.

Tsitsipas v Hanfmann
Tsitsipas has been out of form for a while and he stopped the bad run with a win against Van De Zandschlup. Today he has a more serious match against Hanfmann. Hanfmann played a long 3-set match against Thiem and this is in Tsitsipas' favor. Still, Tsitsipas is not very confident this season and even if he wins, it could be a long match.

But as you can see in women tennis there is not a single players that wins tournament in a row like Djokovic does in atp tennis

Two names come to my mind: Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek. They are potentially capable of this, Iga even had a long winning streak of 30-something matches won in a row. Unfortunately, big money kills motivation.

And Shelton takes the win in a battling 3 set match, two tie breaks and only one
break of serve in the third set. Shelton is on his way to a possible first ATP title
if he wins this, which I think he has a very strong chance.

He will be facing either Mochizuki or Karatsev, TBH I can see him beating both but
the home guy Mochizuki is a bit unknown.

Its amazing how none of the top 10 players are in the reconing....
