9.50 outright on Medvedev to win US Open? Seems like really great odds to give it a shot.

He's in Alcaraz's part of the draw, it's his best surface and he hammered Đoković the last time they played here.
I think I'll actually give this a shot. He will probably lose before getting to the semis (Alcaraz), but the odds support the bet.

Who is your favorite? Alcaraz or Djoko?

As much as I would like to see Medvedev win this tournament again I feel Djokovic is
the most likely winner. Look at his performance in the final of Cincinnati against Alcaraz
who himself was very strong and won the first set. We are in 5 set territory now and all
talents are tested, Fitness, experience, skill, stamina and mentality and Djokovic arguably
has more of all those.

Maybe on a few of those talents Alcaraz can match him though Huh
Both Alcaraz and Djokovic are almost similar in strength in all talents. However the small mistakes and the lack of stamina for a moment brings win to the opponent. However Djokovic is a step ahead in his performance in terms of stamina, because there is always difference between a 35+ aged person and a 20 years aged person. Surprises could happen in between, but the high probability is for a match between Alcaraz and Djokovic in the US Open Final.

I'd probably bet on Alcaraz if such a final encounter would take place (Alcaraz v Djokovic). Djokovic is rumoured to miss tournaments in order to save energy. He is 36 and he can afford to play mostly only Grand Slams and Masters. Carlitos won Wimbledon, then Nole took a revenge in Cincinnati, now it's time for the Spaniard to strike back.  Cool

Meanwhile, Djokovic seems to take some drugs? There's even a person in his box who is mixing the stuff for him. Suspiciously enough, he has become extremely aggressive lately - he was witnessed yelling at his team and even ball kids during the matches, which makes me think he is taking some kind of hormones (testosterone?) to improve his performance, trick his ageing body and force it to perform better.

Very surprising result between Thiem and Bublik. After a long time Thiem finally won again. He had not won a Grand Slam match since the 2021 Australian Open. He was very concentrated in this match. Considering that he made his mental problems public at the beginning of this year, it was a really great performance from him.

Djokovic humiliated Muller in first set with 6-0. Muller could only win his first game in nineth one. It looks like Nole doesn't want to waste his time and energy in first rounds.
If he keeps his stamina high he's my favorite in US Open. Nobody dominate US Open. Last 5 champions are different. Now it's time to turn back, probably it will be either Djokovic or Alcaraz. Their final would be epic.

It's the third set now and he's having a bit more resistance this time around, but we've seen a lot of that in Djokovic's game where he's seen dropping but will pick up a lot of points again at crucial moments, so it will still be a match with him not dropping a set.

Several young and top players had to be eliminated in the early rounds of this tournament, Holger Rune, Felix Augur Aliassime and Musetti, and of the many young players only a few can perform consistently by going further in every major tournament.

Bublik was favourite for this match but I took a bet on Thiem to win @2.35.

@Strongkored - yes a few talented young players are out indeed but the upset of the day
is Rune beaten by Carballés Baena easy enough in 4 sets.

Followed closely by Musetti being beaten by Droguet, never heard of him, it was a bit
of a battle to take 5 sets.

Felix AA seeded 15 beaten by McDonald who is playing good lately but Felix
needs to change something, he just doesnt seem to be progressing.

Yeah I watched this match. Bublik conceded about 16-17 double faults, his serve simply wasn't working. And Bublik's playing style is mostly based on his great serve. After 4-5 hard baseline shots, if there's no error from the opponent, he normally tries to perform a dropshot (mostly unsuccessful). So that's exactly what happened yesterday: serve didn't work, dropshots didn't work and the outcome is quite logical.  Cool

Dominic Thiem managed to win with perfect enough points in every set he played.
Now Dominic Thiem has improved confidence again unlike last year which was one of the worst seasons for him, I didn't fully witness the match between the two of them but when the first set finished it was predictable that Dominic Thiem had a big chance to win his match.
He is now ranked 81st in the ATP and will have a long way to go if he is to reach a higher rank going forward.

Bit of good news from an Italian point of view, Berrettini beat Humbert in 3 sets easily
enough 4-6, 2-6 and 2-6.

Keeping it Italian, Sinner goes up against Hanfmann later, he should win that as a massive
favourite at 1.03 against 14.0. Sinner under 28.5 @ 2.04?

Sonego is also up against the unknown Morena de Alboran, again the Italian favourite

And Andy Murray has just started against Moutet...
at 1.31.

Congratulations to you. This bet was a bit risky after all. But it has paid off for you.

Felix AA seeded 15 beaten by McDonald who is playing good lately but Felix
needs to change something, he just doesnt seem to be progressing.

He has to change something very quickly. He probably needs a mental coach. Otherwise it will be harder and harder for him to get out of it.

Medvedev played very good. He only needed 76 minutes and had a good performance. Just as a good start like Djokovic.

Surprises were common with Tennis matches and now I see it with the match between Huesler and Hurkacz. In the previous Cincinnati Masters Hurkacz played the semifinal match against Alcaraz and gave tight competence losing with a tie breaker win from Alcaraz in the second set. Today he had lost the first two sets 6-4 7-5 against Huesler, and now the third set is being played 5-5 which could move to the tie breaker.

Matches with a 3-set system often provide an opportunity for players who are already two sets behind to change their situation, and Hurkacz managed to turn this situation into a match he won, and the fifth set was relatively easier for him because his opponent was only able to get 1 game.
What was no less surprising was how Borna Coric failed to beat Baez after he had also lost to the same player in the previous tournament, Baez didn't take long to beat Coric, especially in the third set where his opponent seemed to have lost the power to change things.

Alcaraz was able to save his energy for the next match because in the first round, his opponent walkover from the match due to injury in the second set.

Yes, the three set matches gives an advantage. Hurkacz is really good to give a fight back and win the match 4-6 5-7 77-60 6-3 6-1. I didn't expect such a comeback from Hurkacz after watching tha first two sets.

Baez have won consecutive matches against the same player. The Winston - Salam Open match was very close as two games were decided through tie breaker. This time Baez have won it in an easier way on direct sets 7-5 7-5 6-1 which is really an unexpected performance from Coric.

It is rare to see someone who is two sets behind come back and win the match. This was one of the interesting US open first round match where
Huesler having won the first two sets lost the next three consecutive sets and hence lost the match to Hubert Hurkacz. What a good comeback from someone who is at rank 17th.  Now he (Hurkacz) will play Jack Draper in the next round.

Thats the thing with the top seeds, the first two or three rounds are easy enough
for them.

Second round is on today and a few I am following is Sinner who won in 3 sets
against Hanfmann 3-6, 1-6 and 1-6

Thiem is in action later and again he is the underdog against Shelton, 2.11 v 1.76,
another good opportunity with Thiem I think.

Tsitsipas is playing Stricker now and it looks like its going to a 4th set tie break and
Stricker is currently 8.0 to win, might be a bit of a stretch....

A really close match between Tsitsipas and Stricker. Each of the 4 sets was hard fought and currently it looks better for Stricker in set number 5. 5:2 for him. Who would have thought that the number 128 from Switzerland would possibly beat Tsitsipas?
And for Djokovic, it seems that Round 2 comes to a fast end.

Edit:  Stricker won the match.

Yeah, Tsitsipas is out of US Open early. Unbielivable, but it's a fact. Young Swiss guy Dominic Stricker left the Greek no chance. It's the first Top10 win for a 21 yo Swiss who looks like a bit overweight farmer boy but plays like a tennis god!  Grin

Final result: 7-5 6-7(2) 6-7(5) 7-6(6) 6-3

More then 4 hours of heavy battle with the Greek players always favorite in the first part of the match.
US Open isn't his bet tournament for sure... and option cashout it's always a suitable option Wink

Curious event: Italian speaker during the match has commented many many times that Stricker is a very nice player that deserve a better placemente in ATP ranking... let's see next match, today he has been really strong.

Exactly. In New York he always had problems and never got further than round 3.
This match was really worth watching. Stricker fought off several match points and in set 5 he realised that he could do it. It was really cool when he sang the song "I wanna dance with somebody" from Whitney Houston during his last changeover.
