It's great to see that Andy Murray, after so many injuries and after not playing for so long, is not giving up and is still trying to play at the highest level. After this victory, he will enter the top 40 tennis players in the world.
His biggest prize will be a performance at the upcoming Wimbledon, although his chances of a big result at Wimbledon are probably very small.
I wonder how long we will see tennis masters like him or Nadal on the court.

Much expected win. This have helped him move few ranks high on the world tennis rank list. Young players are dominating the court and it is really hard for him to win more matches. Big congratulations to Murray. With all the problems that he is facing, he has certainly done very well. I believe a lot of people didn't expect him to achieve this success. A lot of people probably also think that he did not face too many hard opponents. But the opponent that he faced are not bad at all. I said this because I was having a conversation about this with one of my friends and he said that Murray did not face Alcaraz or opponents like him. But I could understand that he does not have a good idea about things. He is right that Murray did not face Alcaraz but he did his due diligence to win the tournament. At this age, it is a big achievement.

It was a tournament challenger so how could he possibly face Alcaraz, and even if he faced the young tennis player there would still be opportunities especially on grass which is not the favorite of the Spanish player, and what Murray got was a way for him to get back fit, at Wimbledon later he still has a chance because he is pretty good on grass, his only real enemy is when injuries come back to him which can ruin all his struggles.

Yes great win by Andy and he got it done in 2 sets as well.

If you aren sure how it happened, Andy has found some tournaments which align
with his level of tennis and capabilities and thats Challenger level. I think
he said somewhere very recently that all he wants is to win tournaments and has
realised that its not going to happen on the ATP circuit.

Some people are talking him up a bit for Wimbledon because he has won bact to
back Challenger titles but he need favourable draws to get through the rounds.

Bad news for him and all supporters. It seems the player has hit a loong streak of defeat and retirements.
Now he is at 34 place in ATP (last place was 21th). I think this an interesting data for all gamblers.
First of all, he is now in bad shape so it's could be interested bet against him.
Secondly, when he will come back to play as usual, this can be a bargain chance...
But... we don't know "when"... so let's wait.

Yes, he has 10 victories on a row on grass, but against unknown and low ranked players. I just checked and the highest ranked player was nr 69... We will see in the Queen's tournament what he can achieve as also more top50 players are playing there.

I know right? Those are the argument which some people who does not have any idea about things generally make too sure that they know stuff. Even if they necessarily don’t. It is even though he was really in an unfavourable position, he was still victorious by defying the odds. After that come Gasquet and Kyrgios and considering how strong Djokovic is right now, he is well set to increase his GS title count further this year. I guess only some kind of black out could stop him.

I think that it is already perfectly clear to everyone that Andy Murray's best days as a tennis player are already over, and if, with a successful combination of circumstances, you can still talk about winning a tournament, but you can forget about winning a singles tournament. Actually what is more appropriate is to withdraw rather than retire, the reason is always injured and by withdrawing from the tournament where last year he was the champion will make his ranking even worse, it is quite unfortunate because if he is fit he can become one of the strong challengers in the Wimbledon tournament later, unfortunately after his best career at the Wimbledon final two years ago, he often withdrew from tournaments due to injury.
ATP Halle, the first and second seeds advanced to the next round but unlike Medvedev who was able to finish the match by only going through two sets, Tsitsipas had to work hard to win because lost in the first set from Barrère, while Alcaraz at ATP Queens will have his first match today and facing Fils seemed like it was no obstacle for him.

over at Queens - Murray will be playing de Minaur today, thats a tough draw for him but
I think the markets really dont know, the odds are even really, 1.86 to 1.88... I think I will
make a bet on Murray, he is playing in good form ATM.

Tiafoe also plays today in an easy enough draw against Van de Zandschulp, he

Exactly, let's not forget Nole is 36yo and at that age anything can happen during the 2 weeks of GS. I guess he has some special training schedule before and during the Slams so he doesn't get injured but anyway. The risk at this age is too high - one awkward move and you pull a muscle and bye Wimbledon title. I'm not saying it can't happen to anyone else but the age is just amplifying this issue. Let's wait and see how it goes, we also need to know the draw.

No he won against Berrettini in Wimbledon in 2021 and he also won the Australian Open and the French Open, but did lose against Medvedev at the US Open. So in total that was three GS titles in 2021. He also won three in 2011 and in 2015 and now I think it is very possible that he will take him all four GS titles. He won on clay now and he doesn't have any weaknesses in the sense that he is "bad" on any surface. Grass is his strongest surface and if he doesn't get an injury I can't think of anyone to stoP him unless he has a very bad day and that doesn't happen very often. On hard court his win rate is about as good as on grass and I am getting the feeling that he will keep adding titles for a while now. Alcaraz said he was injured at the French Open but he is playing again already. I think that he was puzzled by the strength of Djokovic because even when he won the 2nd set it was insane how he had to play to even win that set. It is humanly not possible to keep such a performance for five sets usually. Even when he hit every ball perfectly he was far from winning the point.

Indeed, your perspective is distinct, and I largely concur. Given Murray's display, it appears his reign over tennis might be past. His recent wins, while noteworthy, didn't come against high-caliber opponents, did they?
