I haven't watched the match, but the first set has ended with a hard fight whereas the second set completely on the side of Richard Gasquet. Today in the quarter final Richard Gasquet plays against Sebastian Baez. Being an young player this match looks like a win for Sebastian Baez.
I watched most of his match against Čilić and he had no chance while Čilić was hitting his shots. When unforced errors started happening the match turned. I expect very similar match today. Also have a ML on Baez since he should outlast Gasquet but i think Gasquet will take one set and probably cover the handicap.

Just watched Dalien against Gasquet match, this was my first time watching Dalien and probably my last. Very annoying player without any shots and screaming like a little girl even on easy ground strokes. I had some money on him and after set 1 even I cheered Gasquet to win Smiley

Madrid started for girls today so some good matches there but I did not have time to make any bets.

I find that the women's matches are generally tougher to predict. The top few players are closer to those below them, there isn't the gulf that we've been used to seeing on the men's side, where Djok/Fed/Nadal sweep all before them. Excepting Swiatek, I suppose, who's close to a guaranteed win, everyone else seems vulnerable. We've had a few top seeds go out already.

I would not call them thougher to predict, just different. It is totally different game than men's tennia. They do not have the strong serve to bail them out and then actual form comes to the front. I am betting much less on women's side bit I am quite with results. Had only Sakari today and she pulled trough in the end.

Women tennis is really hard to predict. We seen that Raducanu won the in qualification then won later the US OPEN and she wasnt a favorite in any of those matches. Their serve is much weaker so a lot of breaks happen not like in Mens tennis where its a little different when its hard and grass courts.

The real issue are the lower odds even for player with good statistics... Sometimes you find good matches but odds are very risky .

Raducanu today "suffered" on the First set but After was able to make a great second set.

Yes, I watched the whole match - because I'm British, and want Raducanu to win every time.  Grin

First set was quite tight, both players doing okay but not great. The whole match really swung on the game where Martincova was a break up, and serving for the set at 5-3. She had two set points, but Raducanu took the game with a break back for 5-4. After that it went to a tie-break which was fairly one-sided.

And after losing the first set in that way, Martincova just collapsed. She looked close to tears through a lot of the second set, and was spraying shots out of the court all over the place... Raducanu just basically had to keep getting the ball back over the net and wait for her opponent to make a wild error... the 6-0 scoreline in that second set was an accurate reflection of how one-sided it was.

It tells me in a way about her insecurity in a way.
Does anyone follow this sad story about a once great tennis champion who went bankrupt, broke the law and goes to jail?
A sad ending for the great tennis champion and role model for many young tennis players.

I have the impression that his "jester" style is always an excellent excuse to win the pubblic graces and make opponents nervous and distracted.

Too bad for Fokina that he completely lost his concentration in the final parts of the match ... he was not able to close the match and results changed from 5-4 to 5-7 Roll Eyes Embarrassed

I'm familiar with Boris Becker as has a great career as well. If I'm not mistaken, he was even hired as coach of Djokovic (correct me if I'm wrong). He has great battles with Ivan Lendl and other great tennis player in that era. So it's sad to see this kind of story about how he turn out to be after his tennis.

Yes I watched the 2nd and 3rd sets, Korda was cruzing to a win in the second set,
4-1. Tiafoe repeated his performance against Fokina. He is a jester, the audience love
it and he gets energy from that.

Let's hope that this is the beginning of Raducanu's return to the top of women's tennis   Grin

Ah yes I remember Boris playing too. In the Tennis world this is rare IMO for a former
number 1 top player to be in so much trouble. I would hazard a guess that he possibly
didnt have the right people around him at certain stages.

It's a shame that Boris Becker has to go to jail. Although he can still appeal the ruling. Being in prison for 2.5 years is quite a long time. Especially if you are used to living in freedom and have had all 5 star hotels in the world. I also don't understand why people in his position get so greedy. He was a multimillionaire, had a dream life as a tennis player and also when he retired. He has also been active as a poker player. When the big money is lurking, it appears to be tempting to have even more money left over and not pay taxes. We also saw similar things happen in football, but that could all be bought off. By the way, Botic van de Zandschulp is playing his first ATP final today.

Let's hope that this is the beginning of Raducanu's return to the top of women's tennis   Grin
I was a little surprised by the news that she changed coaches again, only after a few months:
Source:   https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/61226768

It tells me in a way about her insecurity in a way.

Thanks for the news link, didn't know she fired her coach after 5 months. Just read in the article that it will be her 4th coach in 1 year... But you never know that she can connect with the new coach and have some more successes in the near future.

BIG WINNER!

Superb performance from Raducanu today, again I watched the whole match and she was playing at the same level she was when she won the US Open last summer. She was dominant from start to finish, playing almost flawless tennis at times, and drawing mistakes from her opponent. This is certainly the best she has played this year... and the draw has really opened up on her side now, it's a great opportunity for her to go deep into the tournament, if it goes according to seeding, she should reach the semis with a match up against Sakkari in a repeat of the US Open semi.

Good to hear that Raducanu looks sharp in his matched (although I wasn't able to see it live). Maybe changing to a new coach bring the best out of him and motivated again to duplicate his performance from last year. Based on the scores it is a complete dominant win and will go on the 3rd round. So we will see if this is not a fluke and hopefully he can bring back her career because she has a bright future.

Osaka though and Sakkari is out already.

This is what I was talking about the other day, about how women's tennis is so unpredictable. In Madrid, we are now through to the last 16... so in theory most matches should be a player seeded 1-8 vs a player seeded 9-16... except out of the top 8 seeds, only the #8 seed is left, everyone else got knocked out already (alright, Swiatek withdrew before the tournament started, but that's the exception). There's no-one (other than Swiatek) that I'd feel confident betting on.

To be honest, that's one reason I usually stay away from the women's side, because as you have said it's unpredictable.

I look at who beat Osaka and she is Toribes Tormo, maybe she has the advantage of the weather. Nevertheless it is still an upset because I expect Osaka to at least move into the next round and chances are, if she is going to bow out of the tournament, it should be against rank opponent.

Round 1 of Madrid Mens kicks off shortly, there are some interesting match ups but
the headliner is Andy Murray v Dominic Thiem, thats a very interesting match.
TBH I'm a bit surprised to see Thiem as favoirite, 2.3 - 1.6 on Rollbit. Does Murray have
injury issues coming into this tournament I wonder?

It will be interesting to see if De Minaur can carry his from from Estoril into his match
today against Martinez ... and beyond.

I don't really consider those surprises. Don't get me wrong if I knew underdogs would win I would made a bet on them and cash out heaps of money but both those matches were very suspect to me so I skipped them.

Sakari has terible H2H with Kasatkina, they played 4 times and she lost all 4 matches. Something in the Kasatkina game gives her big problems.
Osaka actually lost last clay encounter against Toribes Tormo with 6:0 6:3 and this match was played in her home country, red flag for me.
Colins and Muguruza were bigger surprises for me but again clay is not Muguruza favorite surface, very strange for Spanish players who probably grew up on it and Colins lost to Andrescu. Andrescu is just outside top 100 at the moment but I remember her from some past matched and she is worth much more. Not really sure what happened to her so that she is so low down the ranking.

For me the surprise od the tournament so far, one that killed my otherwise winning ticket, was Sonego. He lost against WC player who can barely stand on clay judging on the past results. And to make it worse he lost in straight sets.

Rafael Nadal has labelled the ban on Russian and Belarusian players from this year's Wimbledon over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine as unfair, saying they are not responsible for the war. The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has barred the two countries' players from competing at this year's grasscourt major in response to what Russia calls a "special military operation" in Ukraine. Belarus has been a key staging area for the invasion. AELTC's decision has been condemned by both the men's and women's tours as well as several other players. There is more and more discussion on it. Will there be any changes in the upcoming weeks.

I have read before that Wimbledon banned German and Japanese players after WW2
so the move to ban Russian and Belarusian players must be in line with some rule they
have IDK.

Anyway I said before that everyone knows Tennis is an individual sport and players
are not playing for their country. Its a non-sensical way of sanctioning both countries,
there are many other ways to do that.

I recon if every player opposed to the ban were to boycott the decision by not attending
it would be overturned!
