They say that he was the best scapegoat that an Australian politician could get to show off, in any other part of the western world surely nothing happens and things are fixed with bureaucratic favors, but that they have only enforced the rules and a figure like NJ has to be the example, but...

Given the issue where we are, it is worth saying that he played it very badly, because if he does not proceed, his appeal faces a 3-year ban.

Quote
If Djokovic's appeal fails, and his visa remains canceled, he could face a three-year ban from Australia, the Australian Border Force told the Associated Press.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Djokovic clearly didn't meet the criteria to be allowed entry, and neither did Voracova.

But yes, it's certainly true that if Djokovic wasn't such a high profile figure, and if he had decided to stay at home, then Voracova and others would have been able to remain in Australia, and to play tennis.

The way I view it is that Australia allowed in some players in who shouldn't have been allowed according to the law, but no-one really noticed and so no-one made a fuss. But as soon as Djokovic got involved it all became very high profile, and the political wrangling started, everything got brought into the open, and so Voracova has now been deported, Djokovic is awaiting his legal hearing, and all other tennis players who were granted an exemption are now being investigated.

The fact is that Djokovic and other players should not be allowed in if they aren't vaccinated and don't have legitimate medical reasons for this; this is the policy, and it should have been adhered too. But it wasn't, and no-one really noticed this until Djokovic got involved, and now it's become all about political positioning. But regardless, he doesn't meet the criteria for entry.

I think that you have a point. Maybe these things happen often now and then, as there is a chance that the fed often allows players who are not vaccinated, but it goes unnoticed but as a high profile player like Djokovic did the same thing, the media boomed with the news and it went viral.
But whatever the case might be, a player as high profile as Djokovic should not be breaking the law and rules and it's quite disappointing.

this is a pure political decision due to the upcoming elections, and an obvious example of double standards, and not a rational decision based on medical reasons.

Yup, Đoković's team will for sure use her case to put additional pressure during the court hearing on Monday.
This clearly shows the double standards - if it wasn't a famous player everything would have happened unnoticed. Afther the backslash from Australian citizens it simply had to be revoked to keep the peace.

Why would they allow him to get on plane and now to not allow him to enter the country. This is all stupid political reasons from Australia and trying to get a few political points. They dont deserve to host such a big tournament with this kind of laws honestly

As far as I understand from this story, which is neither simple nor decided until the Australian court gives its verdict, Djokovic was granted a visa to enter Australia in accordance with the law.
Do you want to say that the Australian authorities violated their own laws in order to first approve the illegal visa for Djokovic, Voracova and other tennis players, and then only after great public pressure did they decide to start applying their own laws?
That doesn't make much sense to me.
I think there is a lot of illogicality in this case and I hope that the Australian court will finally resolve this confusion and make a fair verdict.

I think both the government and Djokovic are to blame.
As firstly everyone wanted to play it cool, maybe Djokovic thought that he might get away with it but he didn't. Maybe the feds also let him in but as soon as the public got enraged about the news, maybe the government took a U-turn and made Djokovic the sole victim of it. Whatever might be the case, only time will tell what the actual story is.

Details have just been released on how Djokovic's lawyers will appeal in court.
I'm not a legal expert, but it seems to me that Djokovic has a solid case.
What do you think?
This will be a very interesting court hearing.
If Djokovic wins, it will be a great embarrassment for the Australian government because they will be shown to have broken their own laws.
Details below

''In court documents released on Saturday, Djokovic's lawyers say the tennis star had every reason to believe he was entitled to travel to Australia and play in the tournament - and alongside his visa he had a document from the Department of Home Affairs saying his travel declaration had been assessed and he met the requirements for quarantine-free arrival.''
''They will argue that the correct procedures were not followed in revoking the document - for example questioning whether the player was properly informed of the move to cancel the visa and whether he was given the correct legal opportunity to respond.''
''Another key argument will be over whether border officials misconstrued the guidance around what constituted a medical reason not to be vaccinated, the documents suggest.''
''Professor Donald Rockwell, an international law expert from the Australian National University, told the BBC that "any revocation of the visa requires justification... and there are certain legal processes that need to be followed for the visa to be revoked."''

What I heard from a reporter living in Melbourne on the radio yesterday evening was that
AO and the Victorian state granted a number of medical exemptions to carious players, the
Australian governmant and Australian Border Force notified AO and the Victorian officials that
a medical exemption would not be enough to gain entry to the country, visitors would have
to be fully vaccinated.

I think everyone is in agreement that its getting very messy, but it could have all been avoided
as Nadal said, the rules were in place for months.
Djokovic had to go the "Last minute . com" route.

The most logic outcome would be that Djokovic doesn't win the case and needs to leave Australia. I just hope that this drama will soon be over as this has also nothing to do anymore with tennis. It is a drama that could have been avoided and in the end there are no winners only losers.

Okay, maybe it’s time to take a break from Djokovic and dedicate ourselves to other tennis players  Cheesy
I just came across this news:

''Japan's Naomi Osaka has withdrawn injured from the semi-final of an Australian Open warm-up tournament, but the defending champion says she still intends to play in the Grand Slam.''
''She wrote on Twitter: "Sad to withdraw due to injury from my match today, my body got a shock from playing back to back intense matches after the break I took. I'll try to rest up and I'll see you soon!"

Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/59920101

After all the problems she had last year, I was really hoping to finally see her again on the tennis courts.
I would really be sorry if she had to give up playing in a tennis tournament again.
If she performs at the GS in Australia, what do you think about her chances after such a long break from playing tennis?

Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-59904833
The most logic outcome would be that Djokovic doesn't win the case and needs to leave Australia. I just hope that this drama will soon be over as this has also nothing to do anymore with tennis. It is a drama that could have been avoided and in the end there are no winners only losers.

If somehow Djokovic wins the case, it will be very embarrassing for the Australian Government as it seems to me that somehow Djokovic was not made aware of the rules or something.
Or maybe the government thought it wouldn't make much of a fuss if they let Djokovic in and make him play as a matter of revenue was also taken under consideration. But their carelessness is now evident. Let's see how the hearing goes.

I think we should move on until at least there is a coirt decision on Djokovic, we have it
all well covered here anyway.

Yes I heard that from Osaka, thats a pity because she was playing really great especially
after a 4 month break.

She wont be giving up just yet, she came across as actually enjoying herself and
seemed her old self in lost match interviews had the audience laughing, thats what
so many of us adore about her.

And in other news Barty won the Adelade tournament and is looking like taking the doubles
title too. I had a bet on her singles win.

Just watching Felix AA v Bautista Agut ATM - SUPER MATCH.....

OK I agree that we have been talking a lot lately about Djokovic but given the huge interest in this case in the world I have to share one important news.
The hearing on this case starts tomorrow morning at 10 am local time and at midnight Central European Time (CET)  and will be available to follow live here: https://secure.quickchannel.com/qc/create/mainshow.asp?ID=nobroadcast&STATICLIVE=1&PRODUCER_ID=ability1421&SESSIONID=34AB945B00000000306141321DCEAE14&VMR=room20@fedcourt.gov.au

Source: https://www.index.hr/sport/clanak/saslusanje-djokovica-bit-ce-u-izravnom-prijenosu-evo-gdje-ga-mozete-gledati/2331094.aspx

Who will watch the live broadcast?  Cheesy

Update from the Australian government:
And then, in their conclusion, Australia makes clear that even if Djokovic is successful on his appeal of the initial decision, they retain the right to re-detain Djokovic immediately again.
So a Round 1 win for Djokovic, legally, could simply mean the beginning of a Round 2.

Source: https://twitter.com/BenRothenberg/status/1480140627639558144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1480140627639558144%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.index.hr%2Fsport%2Fclanak%2Faustralska-vlada-prodje-li-djokovicu-zalba-svejedno-ga-opet-mozemo-odmah-privesti%2F2331153.aspx

So even if the court releases Djokovic tomorrow and allows him to enter the country, the government may remand him in custody?
It seems that the Australian government is ready to fight to the end against Djokovic and they are ready to do anything to prevent him to perform at the Australia Open, even despite the decision of the Australian court?

If she performs at the GS in Australia, what do you think about her chances after such a long break from playing tennis?

It would indeed be nice to see here back on the tenniscourt. If she can come back at the same level as before and is mentally stronger, than I think she could win multiple more grand slams. Probably the AO will come a little bit to early to go all the way but it will give us some insight at what level she can perform right now.

BIG WINNER!

Barty and Sanders won the Adelaide final as well as the singles final, It looks like she
is in great form for her "home" tournaments. Hopefully Osaka can make a great comeback
for AO and challenge Barty.

...and team Canada defeated Spain in two matches in the ATP Cup, Felix AA looked
really strong especially after being hammered by Medvedev yesterday.

Re. Djokovic's hearing, I wont be watching, every dport news journalist will be all over
it so I will hear the result at some stage.

They made a farce out of nothing. Djokovic tried to get vaccination exemption and it should have either been granted/denied and end of story. Now it is all about muscle flexing and proving points and I am sick of it.

The Australian government published a letter stating that there is no such law for a non-Australian to get into the country when the government denies to enter the country. Which makes sense, otherwise anyone could be traveling freely just calling the courts. So even if he wins the first step in front of a court, there is no doubt that they can and perhaps will keep him stuck in a quarantine hotel or send him home.

It has turned into a real farce. He is still holding back the information about his vaccination status, which makes it quite ridiculous. It is questionable for the best tennis player in the world to claim there are medical reasons for not getting vaccinated when so many world sports starts are vaccinated.

Just look in soccer at Ronaldo: when somebody takes of all health markers possible, I guess Ronaldo is one of them. Nadal says it is easy: get vaccinated and play, or don't get vaccinated and don't play. And we all agree that Nadal is most likely also paying attention to his health. Wink

So now Djokovic has won his appeal... a crazy situation get even more absurd!

They've been ordered to release him from detention, reinstate his visa and return his passport, so he's free to compete in the AO...

... or is he? What has actually happened is that he's been released on a technicality because the judge has said the way they cancelled his visa wasn't right. This has zero bearing on whether he should have actually been granted a visa in the first place. The Australian immigration minister can quite easily still intervene and re-cancel it, and I imagine he's under quite a lot of pressure to do just that.

It looks like the case will just rumble on for a bit, until we've heard from the Australian government.

A truly shameful situation for Australia - they have no idea what they are doing. Ultimately it will be a political decision - where the Minister of immigration can again cancel his Visa - and his decision is due tomorrow.
It's a truly bizarre situation - Đoković can now freely enter Australia and go to a movie or eat at a restaurant - and tomorrow he can be deported because he isn't vaccinated.

Nothing like this should ever happen in sport.

It's always weird when politics and sports are mixed or one is used to influence another or stuff like that. It happens a lot especially in before big international events like the Olympics, just look at what's going on now with the winter Olympics in china where some nations already declared that they won't send political representatives to China.
That whole situation with Djokovic and the Australion Open is even weirder to me though, because of all that back and forth that is happening. First it looks like he gets an exception, then the government won't let him enter the country, now it looks like he can enter again, but it is still not sure yet and even if he can enter it is unclear if he can participate in the AO, what an embarrassment for everyone involved.

A govt of such a country should never do such things as the Australian govt did. This is really embarrassing for them. Whatever happens, I think that the blame will somehow go to Djokovic as the govt will somehow try to escape the fact that they are also to blame.

The Australian government really needs to get their shit together and come to a decision. As this has already become a huge mess and the supporters along with the public are also really enraged about this back and forth decision. Only time will tell if Djokovic will be able to play the AO or not.

Yes the Immegration minister (Stephen Hawke) can use his ministerial powers to
re-instate the ban. If he does that Djokovic will not be able to enter the country for 3 years.

I think it would be wise for Djokovic to actually leave the country anyway just in case
that ban is re-instated.

There is a report that Djokovic declared he had COVID on the 16th of December but
2 days later was at a public event. Very controversial, but thats Djokovic isnt it?
