But surely, that's around a minimum deal (at least) and not the usual deal he is used to back in Cavaliers.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the details of his contract. Thankfully we have good members here. Thanks, man. Please correct me if I'm wrong or there is a new update. He is UFA (unrestricted free agent) for 2020-2021. https://www.rotoworld.com/basketball/nba/player/29684/tristan-thompson/contractHe's young, athletic, and aggressive below the rim. I guess he could be a target for the next season of the Lakers. Just not that much salary as he receives in Cavs but a chance for a championship. Then, his "Big Brother" will be there. Lebron will get a teammates that he like, he even help JR Smith to get signed with the Lakers, so there's no doubt about Thompson, if he likes to play with him. Actually, Lakers already has a lot of big guys who can step up, I think Davis and JaVale McGee are good enough for this team, and if in case they'll add, just add a young players that are willing to play all out to save from big salary expense.

Well, this off-season and next off season combined will finally see the players from 2016 spike that got too much money finally be off the books and that is going to make a lot of changes in NBA. Ever since those days teams decided that you either get a superstar and surround them with minimums, or you just do not pay players all that much and tank, there are very very few contracts that you can consider like Deng or Mozgov of Parsons type of contracts anymore, teams do not make that kind of mistake anymore.
Luol Deng getting 5 million per year TO THIS DAY from Lakers, or Whiteside getting 27!! million dollars, they are all ending soon. Which is why I think 2020's of NBA will be much more ruthless and we are going to see a lot more teams fighting for a title thanks to it.

There are length maximums to length but I get your point i think there will be a pullback of loose contracts. The problem is the lack of talent depth in the NBA right now so when I fringe star becomes available they get big money because teams tend to max out their cap so why not.

JaVale McGee have 1 more year to play for the Lakers. Dwight is UFA. So they have some free space but that aint enough. They will need to let go some of the players to put a fair salary for Thompson. Whoever it is, we dont know yet. I just know Lebron James demands will be granted. The perks of being a star in Lakers just like Kobe.

I just changed the title to 2021 NBA Season. It looks like it won't start on December 21st, Adam Silver just announced that teams disagree with the decision. We probably won't see any regular season games this year. They think about mid January to start and that means a big revenue loss since they miss the chance of playing exclusive Christmas games.
Hey, thanks for being active. I didn't notice that you are the author of the thread. Any suggestion for poll of the thread?
I can't think of any other poll but the same as before of who will be the next season's champ.

With how he helped JR Smith to signed with them is ain't impossible for him to bring whoever he wanted to play alongside with, it's really the advantage of being the star not just he got a huge salary but everything under that he can simply ask for it. Consideration might be there but more on granting what he wanted is more possible as always.

I think this idea for the poll is a little early because many good players are having the status of free agents at the current moment, and we don't know how many teams will be favorites in the next season.

There are 5 unrestricted and 2 restricted free agents in Lakers right now that the future of these players with the team is still not sure. Anthony Davis has a player option but he is more likely to stay with the Lakers after winning a chip. There are lots of rooms for Tristan Thompson even not taking a small deal. He is just 29 years old so a late prime unlike JR Smith and Dwight Howard so they accept a small deal with requirements. I thought he's now a veteran lol. Any suggestion for poll of the thread?
It's ok if there's none. It's not necessary for now.

I can't think of any other poll but the same as before of who will be the next season's champ. Which teams do you see as this year's favorites? It's pretty early, we didn't see draft, trades and transfers yet. Honestly I don't know which teams to put on voting poll.
Lakers should be there as latest champions. Heat, Celtics and Nuggets are also contenders as latest conference final teams. What about Clippers, Raptors, Rockets and Warriors this season? Will they create strong teams again or lose their best players? There are too many question marks here.

I think this idea for the poll is a little early because many good players are having the status of free agents at the current moment, and we don't know how many teams will be favorites in the next season. Which will be good for the league as more and more franchise are now willing to recreate their team. Taking 3-5 stars and composed it with good role players will deliver your team to a good chance tripping to the final slot. Let's talk about the poll after that for now, those movements and rumors are good to begin this new season as free agents are the big thing to see which direction the players will go.

There are not much activities in the off-season yet. Let's think of a poll later on. If I'm not mistaken December will mark the year's free agency and draft. We can start adding poll by January as it's 90% for me that NBA will start their next season in January. Anyone with the update of the salary cut? If I remembered correctly, the cut officially took place a few weeks after the NBA cancelled the 2019-20 season.

There's no update of the salary cut yet but there will be for sure as they will continue to play the same set up which is the bubble, and in the bubble they will not the same projection of revenue they get during the normal seasons of the NBA, hopefully this new normal would end soon.

Any suggestion for poll of the thread?
Since I had read this question I had been thinking all night what could be the poll for the thread. It starts with the season and teams are getting stronger. i.e. Miami, Nets, Nuggets, and Clippers might go back strong this year trying to correct what had gone wrong. So the poll could start with which team will take the top rank for East and West. East especially will be less predictable this year.

Yes, that was 25% of their salary because of the pandemic. There is still no update on what will happen this season. I am guessing they will stay with the same course while meeting with the players union to decide if it will be increase. 25% is not that bad if we consider some people don't even have a job right now to avail pay per views of NBA live streaming. Domino effect.

He's very active in Gambling Discussion and he's been posting on other threads too, I just saw his recent posts and you can say that he really is a fan of sports betting/gambling. Since there are still a lot of rumors about signings and trades, I guess we could just make a poll about another stacked team since duos are quite popular.

NBA is a business, so it's understandable that they'll also adjust at the current situation, what more cut we will witness if the pandemic still continue, hopefully we are not going to see it last anymore.

This is really the problem nowadays that business were really affected by this pandemic and the people that are dependent on others business like working to get a salary will have to be patient at the moment for pretty sure they will get little less during this pandemic. This is not only in the NBA but also in other aspect of businesses. I agree with that hopefully there will no more cut to be made by the people getting that are depended in this business they like the most.

Something that they have to thank of because they are lucky to still have a job despite the cut of the salary, other people are struggling because they lose their job since some of the business have really struggle due to the pandemic. The NBA will continue to provide the entertainment, and they have already proven a bubble concept is a success, so probably when the season resume, we can expect a more exciting bubble as all the teams will be playing in the regular season, unlike the last bubble where they just finish the remainder of the season.

Indeed we are lucky. Some members will just leave threads that last too long like this. Mock draft of CBS. https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/2020-nba-mock-draft-lamelo-ball-falls-to-michael-jordans-hornets-warriors-cant-pass-up-james-wiseman/1. Anthony Edwards - Minnesota 2. James Wiseman - Golden State 3. LaMelo Ball - Charlotte What an intriguing title for an article. I don't really understand why they are hyping LaMelo Ball. Did Dad pay up a lot of money for it?
