bitcoin without altcoins is just like dollar without poundsterling, euro, or anything else.
to trade a commodity, we need an alternate to compare the quality (price) when it flooring on the market.

i agree that some of them are useful, since they have a different aim and goal then bitcoin. but i do not thing we need them to compare the quality (price).
imagine the whole world would use just one currency. it would be a lot easier and you could still have different prices for food in different regions of the world.

yeah to make bitcoin to the top cryptocurrency it needs alternatives to compare. The reason that it will be extremely difficult for any altcoin to gain a larger share of the market than Bitcoin is the reality that Bitcoin’s much larger market cap is actually what allows it to hold onto that top spot.

There is still lot of room for many good coins and this diversity is healthy for bitcoin and for users. They can choose which technology is best for them, if they want fast transaction or anonymity.

nobody ever compares bitcoin with altcoins and if you do, you are doing a wrong thing. it is like comparing apples and oranges. because all the altcoins so far have been a pump and dump scheme and died after a while.

Right, because bitcoin and altcoin I think is very different. Bitcoin can live without altcoin, but altcoin without bitcoin will die.
Because the altcoin price is still cheap then it can be very easy to dump and pump by dev or a group, in contrast to the bitcoin price is already high in this case would be difficult to pump and dump bitcoin for people who have little capital haha.

Right, because bitcoin and altcoin I think is very different. Bitcoin can live without altcoin, but altcoin without bitcoin will die.

i don't see things only as black and white. altcoins won't die without bitcoin.
there are actually many good innovations in altcoins too, i am not going to name any names because it will attract a lot of hate but you can check out some of the old altcoins in the altcoin announcement boards and see some good projects with good innovations.
although this doesn't mean they haven't been getting pump and dumped !

I did the same. Mining altcoin is the way to get some bitcoin. I  then use the bitcoin to buy graphics cards to mine more ETH.

I can't see bitcoin being that much affected without altcoins, Bitcoin is still the core and the main thing and I think it can easily recover if altcoins diminish or lose their popularity, I doubt the opposite (if bitcoin is gone) would be true since BTC is the pricing item for each new altcoins (And those trying to change that like Ripples are not working).

well I agree bitcoin is the beneficiary of any other altcoin that go to market. Every altcoin made had a chance to trade to bictoin and the bitcoin pice always moving up and down, thats the mostly use of bitcoin trade with other altcoin if many altcoin will build many bitcoin will be needed to make it pump.
