Clicked! Looks long. Getting a fresh cup of coffee. Now only if I knew how to freeze MFC until I get back to them. MeSoSExxY has a new outfit and I wanted to see it live. She only needs $3.68 more donations before she puts in on. My lost I guess. Getting coffee now, then to the reading.

Inaba hasn't said anything about the demise of bASIC yet.

How much of the "update" do you reckon will focus on that?

I'm betting on more than 0%.

It was approximately 0%. There was a small remark about better power consumption but I think that was aimed at Avalon.

Tldr; chips finished last week of Jan, packaged first week of Feb, soldered into units the week after then shipped ~mid Feb. <1 month to get through all pre orders.

Timeline forgot to include shipment arrivals.

Also you notice how he keeps saying "as soon as we have everything nailed down" which means nothing is nailed down. Just more "just wait a little longer guys"

LOL!

One minor detail... they still don't know IF their chips WORK.... There is no mention of any chip-testing in that time-line.... Might have to be amended early Feb....

Good point. No tests have been mentioned. So um...are we back in the timeline of like September of last year?

No tests? wow...yeah that will be a smooth process over the next 30 days.

Functional testing can be done in about a day if they have everything set up; give another day if minor firmware changes are needed (likely). He gave a week for packaging in that timeline, but packaging can go much faster than that. They'll have the first chips in functional testing while the rest are being packaged.

And if testing doesn't go as planned?

Just because you test doesn't mean everything will go 100% smoothly.

Edit: I think the issues will be  more towards the actual ASIC chips themselves and NOT the firmware.

mm hmm.  Changing the package type sounds pretty significant.  I doubt they can just hand tweak the existing synthesized logic to make that kind of change, so that means a whole new synthesis.

Of course they were already screwing with the clock tree to begin with.  Not exactly a minor change.

Yup so point made. Hoping that tests go 100% smoothly is like hoping that everyone involved in bitcoin will profit. We are all going to be rich!....can't happen.

All theoretical objects behave as theoretically planned for ..

Reality which is still to be seen re ASIC is still theoretical...So sure make all the changes you want as it wont affect anything in the theorectial plane of existance where BFL live...

bASIC just left & entered reality and we saw how their chips behaved on the reality plane

I dont think many saw that un-expected behaviour  (me included)...lol

Not sure if this has been addressed, but will units needing external power have a US-type cord if shipped to a country that has different outlets? I'm aware they make adapters, but more curious than anything else.

Well thought-out post, Josh. I'm sure it'll now be pecked at like a free-range chicken in Jody's garden.

augustocroppo - don't bother there is almost nothing in this thread worth reading except the latest update on the BFL site.
I'm not vouching for it's validity, just simply pointing out that there is almost nothing else worth spending the effort to read even 20 pages of the crap in here Tongue
