No-one can be sure of the amount of people that are involved with Bitcoin, but I think it would be fair to say that there's something like 1-3 million people using Bitcoin, at least somewhat passively, at most given times. I think the number of people who have been involved with Bitcoin at some point in some capacity numbers somewhere close to 10 million, but that might be a stretch. I personally have no idea what the actual numbers are, but I would think they're somewhere around there.

Yeah right dude is impossible to calculate the exact amount of bitcoin users. But I think if the state can support and participate I think that data collection can be done, but I think it will not come in the near future. it still took a few years longer possible for the countries in the world accept bitcoin

That is true that we can not calculate how many are the actual users of bitcoin, every time, every minute there is newly sign in or users start to using it, and we do not have data to know the list of users.

That is true that we can not calculate how many are the actual users of bitcoin, every time, every minute there is newly sign in or users start to using it, and we do not have data to know the list of users.
And all we can see that the number of users of bitcoins is already huge and since we are increasing in terms of numbers of users the future is guaranteed that the early adopters who invested will be benefited and could possibly make a fortune in bitcoin.

Is there a way to determine the number of people who are actually using Bitcoin till date? Who would have access to such information? Meaning a way to find out, how many new people have used Bitcoin in 2016 , so that we can say exponential growth is natural not artificially created by hoarders.
From an coindesk article there are more than 10 million bitcoin wallets available and the number of bitcoin users can not be known from this. I believe that there are few millions bitcoin users based on what I read on coinbase that they have almost 2million users. I too believe that users have reach into millions already and that is huge when it comes to the average amount they are holding. And if that will follow the increasing trend we could be huge in the future and would always give us the benefits for the early investors. I believe too that 2 million real people used/are using bitcoin but how much are currently active we can't know that. Also we should count that the number of people that are using altcoins most of them used or are using bitcoin which means that the bitcoin community is very large.

It's estimated to be 1.2 million or lower based on the number of active addresses with more than dust in them. It could be much lower because many individuals have multiple addresses.

It's not my estimate but thank you for giving me the credit. That's an estimate that a grad student got by parsing the blockchain for all the known addresses with coin in them. Remember that's a global number, not just your country.

To get true number of bitcoin users we need to start a poll in every country and we will not know ture accuracy cause not everyone will answer.
I think that poll can not help because not all users will participate that and every time more people starting to use bitcoin that is why can not get the real number of bitcoin users but one thing we all know more people are now using it. Yes it will be very difficult to know how many bitcoin user even do a poll not all will have care to join in a poll, and not all willimg to participate if one will not join I think it will not valid count.

I would think that the actual number of people using bitcoin is falling. It is being viewed more as a way to invest fiat to profit in even more fiat. So for most people outside this community is a commodity not a currency. If bitcoin is to be a currency and have growth in everyday usage then have salaries given in bitcoin. The bitcoin entrepreneurs have this responsibility. I believe blockchain.io give their employees bitcoins for the salaries. Others should follow.

We can never say that because the value is continuous increasing if the actual of users decreasing i think it has effect on price and it would goes down to, i only know there are more people starts to adopt bitcoin because they already know/see the potential that brings of bitcoin in the future.

Determining the amount of bitcoin users would be near impossible and couldn't be done just by combing the blockchain for addresses as you can't just say everybody just has only one address.

i think if you want to know the actual number of people "using bitcoin" then you have to see where they are using bitcoin and check the number of accounts/users in those places. for example in services like gyft or even using as investment so check out number of users on exchanges because people have only one exchange account. There are around 40k registered accounts on 8btc ATM. Hope it helps.
and there are 866K registered accounts on bitcointalk
