Hey I'm Umai.

Start bitmining in 2011 but I didn't think it would hold up so I ignored it. I wish I hadn't but hey it happens. If only there was a way to go back in time. Was going to post in services but I needed to register and now I'm here. Been reading a lot about ASIC rigs but they still don't sit right with me, they all sound fake except for Avalon and even that sounds fake.

Til then I'll stick to GPU mining, it's not the best but it's still good if I say so myself.

I really want to buy some coin, as in bitcoin.  I have 1000$ ready to throw into this awesome new currency.  I do though HATE the runaround it takes to buy any.  I haven't found a site yet that is easy to use at all.  Pain in the arse if I do say so myself.  I need a couple hints to make it easier so I can get started.  Any pointers?    Huh

A little late but Mt. Gox would be a good place to start.

Hello! I want to gpu mine for fun, and apparently I'll make about $25/month doing it, until the difficulty gets beyond the breakeven point. Just a fun hobby anyway!  Smiley

Hi there!

Started today. I made my wallet and then I was looking for free bitcoins to pay a account on premiumize.me...
The only reliable way seems to mine in a pool.
I'm currently trying to mine with GuiMiner on slush's pool.
It's working fine and I get around 264Mhash/s, but I'm having some troubles to save my settings in GuiMiner and therefore created an account on this board.

Hey everybody. I'm Husband. I've had my mining rig up and running for about a week and I'm at ~7 BTC so far.

I've heard this one before.

Hello BTC world. I like to mine and cannot wait for my BFL little single SC to arrive, that is assuming that is will actually arrive some day. Anyone have any general thoughts about the price of a coin going from about 20 USD to approx 40 USD?

SIGNW here. It's an acronym for something that I guess you'll have to dig up, heh.
I've mined for BTC back in 2010/11--but lost everything I had mined up.
I'd love to find a Path of Exile partner or two!

I'm looking to use BTC to buy/sell goods since eBay/Paypal have really been reaming me with fees, and that's what I love most about BTC--lower/shared fees for everyone.

On that note, I'll be listing a brand new sealed i5 3570K and an 8TB (2*4TB) RAID 0/1/3/5 SansDigital array when I'm out of this newbie hole, so hope to see some business soon!

hi all, testing the water. Bought some coins - took a while to figure it out. I'm guessing the complexities are what will keep non techies scared but the future looks bright.

Hey everyone!

I'm pretty new to this whole scene, but a friend of mine in college seemed really enthusiastic about the potential of the bitcoin project, so I decided I'd try and give it a go! I've been reading a lot about it and I look forward to being part of the bitcommunity! Smiley

I hope to see you all around!

Whats up, Im special (my momma told me so Grin) and my names Ed, no not really, but there is an Ed somewhere in my name, lmao. Anyway, after stalking these forums for awhile I thought I would finally join and say hi. Plus I can actually talk now, well after I get past the 5post limit anyway.

Hi all... very new on the Bitcoin scene. Read a newspaper article this morning, followed a few links, after reading a bit got myself a wallet, clicked on a few more links, solved capcha's and watched silly videos... and now, late afternoon, I'm on my way to 'Infinite Wealth'; a whopping 0.00005 btc is the gently beating heart in my wallet.

For the next few weeks I'm going to read a bit more on the Bitcoin, have a look around on this forum and probably have some questions left and right. Well, in the meantime, see you on the forum in the newbie section, I guess!

I'm currently trying to mine with GuiMiner on slush's pool.
It's working fine and I get around 264Mhash/s, but I'm having some troubles to save my settings in GuiMiner and therefore created an account on this board.

What kind of issues are you having?

Gui Miner has had no problems saving my miner settings.

Hope it is ok, that we dicuss that in this thread.
I already tracked it down, kind of...
If I try to save (File>Save settings) there is no error-messsage but the miner-tabs still have an asterisk next to their names which (I assume) means they are not saved. If I quit the GuiMiner it aks me whether or not to save. If I click "yes" NOTHING happens, it won't even shut down! If I press "no" there is an Error:
See the logfile 'C:\Users\<user>\Desktop\guiminer\guiminer.exe.log' for details
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "guiminer.py", line 2028, in on_close
  File "guiminer.py", line 2056, in save_config
File "json\__init__.pyo", line 231, in dumps
File "json\encoder.pyo", line 201, in encode
File "json\encoder.pyo", line 264, in iterencode
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xf6 in position 10: invalid start byte

So the offical thread says the config is saved in "%appdata%\poclbm" as "poclbm.ini" but the folder is empty.

So there are two possible reasons for me:
1. No write access for "%appdata%". But "Run as Administrator" should solve this and it did not.
2. There is a diaeresis/umlaut (a german vowel) in my Windows-username. An ö like in "Motörhead". The "UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8'" indicates that this could be the problem. Any solutions for that?
