Im Ojsimpon. Finally decided to start posting. Lurker since 2011
Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Hi there!

Started today. I made my wallet and then I was looking for free bitcoins to pay a account on premiumize.me...
The only reliable way seems to mine in a pool.
I'm currently trying to mine with GuiMiner on slush's pool.
It's working fine and I get around 264Mhash/s, but I'm having some troubles to save my settings in GuiMiner and therefore created an account on this board.

What kind of issues are you having?

Gui Miner has had no problems saving my miner settings.

Hope it is ok, that we dicuss that in this thread.
I already tracked it down, kind of...
If I try to save (File>Save settings) there is no error-messsage but the miner-tabs still have an asterisk next to their names which (I assume) means they are not saved. If I quit the GuiMiner it aks me whether or not to save. If I click "yes" NOTHING happens, it won't even shut down! If I press "no" there is an Error:
See the logfile 'C:\Users\<user>\Desktop\guiminer\guiminer.exe.log' for details
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "guiminer.py", line 2028, in on_close
  File "guiminer.py", line 2056, in save_config
File "json\__init__.pyo", line 231, in dumps
File "json\encoder.pyo", line 201, in encode
File "json\encoder.pyo", line 264, in iterencode
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xf6 in position 10: invalid start byte

So the offical thread says the config is saved in "%appdata%\poclbm" as "poclbm.ini" but the folder is empty.

So there are two possible reasons for me:
1. No write access for "%appdata%". But "Run as Administrator" should solve this and it did not.
2. There is a diaeresis/umlaut (a german vowel) in my Windows-username. An ö like in "Motörhead". The "UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8'" indicates that this could be the problem. Any solutions for that?

I've been interested in Bitcoin since I first heard about it back when LulzSec accepted donations in BTC. Been doing offers online, but have less than .002 BTC Sad
I'm hoping to post some things in the services forum once my noob time is up  Grin

I'm a musician, and music producer hoping to sell a few mp3's.  I'm currency savvy so I know what a reasonable price is.  I you might like my music as well, So I appreciate any type of support you can give me whether it's praise or some bitcoins.  if you do like itthough I'd highly encourage you to buy my album on bandcamp Smiley

This shameless approach to selling a fine product is not my usual persona, however I'm very interested in this market because I'm not sure how much longer the federal reserve can keep up their shenanigans.  So I feel motivated by this.  anyway, good to meet you all!
I've posted a topic in the newbie forum if you want more details.

I've run my mining rig all night on the BTCMiner pool, It seems that if I turn it off all my estimated BTC goes to zero.  not sure what that means.  maybe you can help me understand how it works a bit better.

I'm a student. I was using bitcoin to make some purchases during the crazy price fluctuation the other day (what some call a crash I call free bitcoin), and pretty much doubled the amount of btc I owned on accident as a result. Now I intend to pay for my college tuition by day trading bitcoin. Watch my progress in my sig which I'll update weekly Cheesy

I also like photography, rocks, concerts, and being a hippy.

Introducing myself.  I suppose this makes post four.  I'm considering investing in BitCoins.  We'll see if it happens or not.  I'm going to watch the price for a few more weeks before doing anything serious, and, of course, the third batch of Avalons isn't out yet (and Butterfly Labs may never produce anything).

Hello all, I didn't realize I had to make posts in this section in order to post in others. Anyway, I've been fascinated with the idea of alternative currencies, and I don't like the direction fiat (like my USD) is going. So I see it as a worthy investment vehicle and something worth keeping Tongue

please do so! and get a post Smiley
don't be so negative, the 5-post-4-hour-rule is there for a reason: to get rid of the trolls. NOT to piss newcomers off.

relax take it easy and smile. Cheesy
