Hello all-- I have been bit-mining for 22 months and have spent much time on this site, but have never registered because of the nuisance.  Also a  Angry for whomever got the username "Bitter" before I could.

What finally got me to register is to warn people about giving too much control of the network to Avalon.

out of interest can you give a rough number of how many coins you accumulated in that time?
Just so I can beat my self up about it...I heard about BTC back then but never pursued it, as a computer gaming nerd I have had the perfect system for it for a long time.

I don't know exactly, but I would guess somewhere around 450.  That sounds great, but I have sold most of them already and for much less than I could now!  I only have 25 coins left. Tongue

I started with the card I already had in my computer and it was getting about a coin a day on 170 MH/s.  Now I am running 1700 MH/s and getting only .12 per day.  For the first year or so I was reinvesting the money in new hardware until I had 2000 MH/s.  Then I started to cash out and am now up a couple grand.  I haven't really kept track of the exact figures.  I have not purchased any new hardware in over a year and am very impressed at the reliability of the video cards.  I have one 6950 and 6 6770s and a 5750.  The only card I had fail was a 5830 which is bad, because that card was a real money maker.

Thanks Blockhead, how much longer do you think you can mine Bitcoins before it is unprofitable with GPUs?
Not sure if I should start on some BTC before switching to LTC.

Did some LTC mining tests over the weekend on Nvidia cards but have AMDs on the way. Electricity is pretty expensive in Australia, I will make a small amount of money on LTC so it is mostly for the giggles (and hopes LTC does 1/10th as good as BTC).

I can't guess the future, but where it is right now I am using 1200 watts non-stop and paying 7.5 cents a kWH.  This works out to U$D 2.25 a day.  The price is going for around 70 dollars a coin and I am getting .12 BTC per day at BTC guild.  So that is nearly 8 dollars a day on 2.25 in electricity.  I expect the difficulty to continue increasing and if the price stays where it is I will probably be throttling back when the summer heat hits in 2-3 months.

I might look into LTC, but it sounds like it needs even more electricity than BTC.  I think ASICs are the future, but we need more competition if bitcoin is going to stay widely dispersed.

paying 7.5 cents a kWH

And that is where I am done in...around 26 cents per kWH here and more rises expected. In all calculations with GPUs half the profit goes to pay the bill with either BTC or LTC.

That is at present prices though, if the coins keep going up (and down) and up in value the equation works out better.

Cheers for the info.

hello all- im so very excited about entry into community.  I've known about bitcoin for just under a year now.  When I first read about the bitcoin I was fascinated.  Finally, I knew I needed to get involved or otherwise stand on the sidelines.  I hope to bring some ideas to the community that will be value added.  Thank You & I look forward to participating as much as I can! -cromba

Hello everyone, my name is Bothi. I have recently moved, but once I get a new forge set up, I will be selling handmade custom knives for Bitcoins. I have traded various other good before, and will likely continue to do so through bitcointalk and the Bitcoin community in general.
