Just leave the forum up on your browser and go do your thing for 4 hours.

The newbie restrictions make sense in the context of the ID technology currently being used on this forum (and other similar forums), which essentially have an extremely low barrier of entry.
Isn't it however ironic that a forum based on a currency that uses proof-of-work still does not have access to an ID-platform which uses anonymous proof of work to prove the persistence of identity across time and space?

It appears to me that a simple and pseudo-anonymous way to provide access control to the forum would be for x BTC to be posted as collateral against user ID? (to be refunded after a trial period is over, or to be confiscated in case a user is banned).

BTC solves the problem of cheap ID?

I agree. It forces honest users to spam and does not stop real PM spammers.

I think it is a great idea... Means you actually have to read before you are allowed to open your mouth lol! A lot more places should be like that!

What I don't understand is that you have to actually post or click on links... the reading time in the threads is not considered as time logged in!!!

The software that runs these forums (SMF) has no way of knowing you are still around unless you click links / post threads etc.  If you're technically minded, you can read up on how HTTP is stateless.
