It is going to take me all day just to jump to the initial site I was looking for.
Hopefully its worth the small effort.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

What I don't understand is that you have to actually post or click on links... the reading time in the threads is not considered as time logged in!!!

The software that runs these forums (SMF) has no way of knowing you are still around unless you click links / post threads etc.  If you're technically minded, you can read up on how HTTP is stateless.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Http
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_%28computer_science%29

Yeah life's a b*tch

Point is, to achieve 5 hours of logged activity I've been around a couple of weeks!

Thanks for making the forum available.  I'm brand new to bitcoins but need to get some into mtgox as soon as possible.  Guess I'm going to start reading some threads to figure out how to get them and who to trust.   Undecided

Having used this site previously but forgot my login/password I registered a new one.
I spent ages checking my email and trying to find out why I couldnt post here Sad
Really need to make it more obvious the new posting requirements.

It is really obvious.  When you click to register a new account there's some text below the spot to put in your information.  The first few lines detail newbie restrictions.

I have more than 5 post, and 2 days ago I was able to send a PM to another user. Today when I login, I could see the famous "Trolling" message in my screen. Some kind soul can enlighten me why this is happening now and no 2 days ago?

Thanks!

You need to pass the 5 post threshold and be on the forums 4 hours.

If I'd known about this 4 hour thing earlier I'd have registered before I felt the need to post. Eh.

Guess this is an introduction anyway.

In the meantime, if anyone else with a vague knowledge of banking/UK law wants to go over to the Intersango thread and point out the only legal reason a bank can freeze an account without explanation then please do.  Smiley

Yeah, seriously.  I don't just sign up for forums when I start browsing them.  I lurk until I feel I need to ask a question or contribute.

Don't waste that time, read up about the topic at hand.  Four hours is not enough to grok Bitcoin, it took me two weeks.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

- Carroll Quigley, CFR member, mentor to Bill Clinton, from 'Tragedy And Hope'

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted.

Lol, I hope not 4 consecutive hours loged....my internet loves disconneting a lot and I would never make it past the newb town if that was the rule  Grin

Remember that HTTP is stateless and you are considered logged in for 15 minutes since you last click a link. The time logged in does not need to be consecutive.
