I understand this as a form of working protection (hopefully), but certainly quite disturbing. If it helps ....

So the "promotion" out of Newbie land is automatic, provided the user meets the minimum posts and hours requirement?

Seems as though most of us use this as an excuse to get a free post, so here I am.

Exactly. It might take a few minutes, though, for the posting rights to be granted.

What's with the timer? I've spent at least a couple of hours reading but my total time logged is 36min.

It's not really a timer, it's a page view counter that doesn't credit you if you are clicking too fast.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."
- Carroll Quigley, CFR member, mentor to Bill Clinton, from 'Tragedy And Hope'

Ah, ok that explains a lot. Sucks though if you are actually spending the time reading though the posts and not making much headway towards the 4 hours though. Friggin trolls ruining it for everyone else. Oh well, back to reading (and clicking). Thanks!

I'm not really a huge fan of the newbie restrictions, but for me personally, the amount information here is definitely worth it.

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts. If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic. Also: - You must have made one post in order to send PMs. - You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature. Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. Hello I'm a newbie to these forums but not to bitcoins. I was wondering what I had to do to post in forums I feel Important for me to post in. I am honorer-ed to have found this place and hope to be able to learn a lot from here, PEACE!

I guess we all have to go through the "newb" stage in order to join something...can't restrictions be 3 hours instead?

I think 4h is not that bad - if you register as soon as you read this forum. But many users don't. Why is it 4h online and not, for example, x hours starting with the first post?

I think the Newbie restrictions/time limits are justified given the mass of spam and trolling going on in this forum.
I have also noticed that if I just leave my browser window opened on the forums for a few hours while logged in it doesn't count that time in the 'Total time logged in'. I wonder how they know that people are afk/not on the forums?
