Guys, how to make a full backup of the wallet? Sorry for a noob question, couldn't find that info... Thanks!

To make a full back up follow these steps :

 -  Open your wallet and navigate to settings

 -  Click on "Full Backup"

 -  Set up a password, Keep "Compress Slider" On for compressing backup data file (it's optional). Then click on "Export".

 -  A "Save a file" windows dialogue box will appear. Save the backup file into your computer and store it safely.

Is there smartcontract feature on byteball, turing complete?

Not turing-complete:

Quote
Byteball does simple, human-readable contracts to perform simple actions.

Read more about it here: https://wiki.byteball.org/Smart_contract
How do you understand Turing complete, ETH claims that they are turing complete, but I still don't understand the true inside. It seems like a commercial speculation way for those people without CS background. btw, I am a researcher in EE CS area.

I am a supporter of byteball platform. But I think the distribution of bytes through WCG can be improved as well as the distribution as whole though a sustainable way. Some people complain because it changes in a very short time without previus anouncement.

For exmple, why not distribute the remaining bytes in a fix number of year by a fix amount of bytes? Mimicking the distribution of bitcoin. And it will become a profitable distribution organically.

For example, If I have 300,000 Gbyte to distribute in 30 years, it would be 10,000 Gbyte a year.
It would be around 30 Gbytes a day fixed distribution for 30 years to the WCG.
The 30 Gbytes a day should be divided by the total number of points of WCG.
Or 15 Gbytes to WCG and 15 Gbytes for Byteball core team, or 10 and 20.
Or 3 to wcg and 27 to byteball core team.
Or 10 to wcg, and 10 to full nodes and 10 to core team.
Whatever the amount or method is, fix it, do not change it tomorrow.
It will become profitable eventually, and people that are already mining other coins will switch their hashing power "to mine" Byteball.
The amount of Gbytes to distribute per day should determined and study by "the experts" or open a public debate.

This model of distribution I didn't invented, it works for bitcoin and some other altcoins. I think it is sustainamble for the price, and the investors and trader will know what to expect next day, next month, and next year.

If I could unfix the distribution of Bitcoin because "I invented the Bitcoin" and I start distribute it to steem user at my will because I think is good, then next day start ditributing Bitcoin at my will to the students of a Venezuelan University, then next day I start to distribute Bitcoin to souvenir merchant in Milan, next day will sell bitcoin to pay for developers and marketing at my will, the price of Bitcoin would be 125 USD per bitcoin today.

Nice work guys, really appreciate the efforts! It's always good to get a little compensation for computation. Smiley

I had missed the fact that World Community Grid distributions had resumed. The money might not be much, but it will be of help as some people could sign up to WCG just to benefit from this. We need more such innovative ways of distribution, although nothing could beat the airdrops. Wink

I haven't tried this feature, but as far as I remember there's a claim back link on the sender's transaction page. What wallet are you installing btw (iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, etc.)?

‘the graph is very complex now, which makes validation very slow, and it is still performed in sql. So large complex graph became possible after we allowed spending unconfirmed funds. Trying to do urgent performance improvements now’

Wasn't the scalability of DAG supposed to be much, much better than blockchain? I thought that was the selling point of Byteball and other cryptocurrencies based on DAG. But if validation becomes slower as the graph becomes more complex, then we really don't have a competitive advantage in using DAG,.

That’s a valid concern but please mind that we have mostly unoptimised code here. IMO the underlying SQL server is the bottleneck here, there’s no flaw in the DAG scalability. This was already discussed several times but the optimization of the database functions was postponed because other improvements seemed to be more urgent.

What about now though, will more emphasis be placed towards optimizing database functions? It appears to have quite some impact.

They'll have to - this latest episode has exposed that they can't handle large volumes of transactions yet.

Byteball might not be able to handle large volumes of tx yet, but that's not what this latest episode was about. See this statement from Tony on Slack:

Quote
tonych [2:32 PM]what happened:
- on Friday (the 13th) 10 out of 12 witnesses crashed due to a bug. The 2 surviving were recently updated and didn't have the bug
- among the 2 surviving witnesses, was the steem attestation bot which continued to post transactions very fast, and since it didn't have to wait for confirmations, nothing could stop it and the unconfirmed tail of the DAG has grown very large
- the 10 witnesses updated and restarted but they started adding their units to the old part of the DAG they last witnessed, which caused massive rebuilds of the main chain each time a new unit was added.  This made validation of new units very slow.
- I had to urgently find and apply a few optimizations that matter only when the DAG takes such unusual form.  They made validation faster but still way slower than usual
- when the optimizations were ready, another issue popped up: calculation of stability point gave unexpected result.  I had to investigate the new issue, which took another day, and found a mistake in the algo. The fix breaks compatibility with the old (flawed) algo, and makes the update mandatory for all full nodes.

tonych [2:43 PM]
there were other performance improvements we've ben working on for the past several months, they affect a lot of code and any small mistake could cause a consensus split, and i didn't feel it is right to roll them out in such unprepared manner.

It's a very good news to see such a crisis to have been solved so efficiently. When launching a totally new tech, it's inevitable that bugs can pop out even after a long time. To be able to solve issues fast and safe is only making the coin more and more stable. Keep on the good work!

There's a dev-net too if I'm not mistaken
The dev-net is where you develop your applications or new features. Then you can move it to the testnet, that is almost identical to the main net. And if everything still checks out fine, you can go to main net
So Dev net -> Test net -> Main net

Is there a limit to sending money?  I have two wallets one has 72M of and I want to combine it with the other wallet. When I click send all money. It only transers about 769,000 Btypes. When I try to transfer a large ammount manually (say 50M) it says could not spend payment: not enough spendable funds) I am puzzled as to what might be going on...

It is my opinion that too many crypto projects are at each other's throats. It was refreshing to see a project like Byteball, running on a completely different consensus algorithm, venture to reach out and work together with Steem. I haven't seen anything like it. I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

People should use the Byteball explorer (https://explorer.byteball.org) and search for the wallet of the user they think they should have received a referral reward for. Then check if that user did get a reward or not. If the user didn't get e attestation reward, there is no referral reward either.

not only download  but also install it  and  to be aligible you should have steem account created before  July 12, 2018 and your steem reputation should be  as high as 30, at least. Byteball can do a lot of things like contracts, coin sending via txt messages etc.

Up until recently my rotating media disk drive could keep up with the traffic on my full node wallet.

With the new version I can no longer keep up.

I would like to move the data files to my SSD.

Can I get instructions for moving the data files?  I am hoping it is something like:

1) Stop the program.
2) Copy the data files from where they are to a location on the SSD (which files to copy, where are they?)
3) Edit a file somewhere to point to the new data file location (what file to edit, what to edit?)
4) Restart the program
5) Catch up

If possible, I do not what to have to reinstall from scratch on the SSD and sync from the beginning.

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

Yes. The Steem community is pretty big too, which means that Byteball's community has just expanded as a result of the airdrop.

The bigger a coin's community the more likely it will become successful.
