Do you think these spikes can be the reason why my rig freezes? I will describe my problem a little.

I have a 7970, a 280x and two fury nitros. During the last couple of weeks I have been trying to run my system stable with no luck. Freezes can happen at any time after starting to mine. Sometimes minutes, sometimes hours.

Rig specs: Asrock 970 extreme4. Sempron 145. 8GB ram. EVGA 1300 G2. Sapphire 7970 ghz edition, sapphire 280x vapor-x, 3x sapphire fury nitro OC. Tahiti cards undervolted on bios, fiji cards on msi afterburner. No OC on furys. Win 10. 12.6.3. CM 11.1.

First I changed all risers to v6 ones.

Next I upgraded the processor to athlon x2 because I noticed that I was getting less hashes when MSI afterburner was on and I thought the system would be more stable.

After a couple of days more I changed the mobo to asrock h81 pro btc with celeron 1840.

Still no luck.

I thought that the power was insufficient so I added a corsair rx1000 linked with an add2psu device.

No luck, freezes persist.

Changed EVGA to corsair hx1200i. This psu is powering mobo, raisers and tahiti cards.

Nothing changed.

I stopped undervolting. Still same freezes.

One fury died the day before yesterday. No fans, not detected in win 10, not detected on ubuntu, mobo not booting when the card is alone.

I changed risers again to the furys.

I used separate cables for each riser.

I powered the offending fury card with one cable for each connector. Still the same.

I tried catalyst 15.12. Same effect.

Sometimes I see 511 degrees in the fury card on CM log prior to freeze, sometimes it just stops hashing without any error and the watchdog doesn't restart the miner, sometimes all 4 cards go to 0.000 hashing without any error, sometimes after gpu reported incorrect temperature 511°C.

I'm already out of ideas.

Any hint, anyone?

Edit: typo

I have the exact same issue as you describe.

2 x 7990 & 2 x 7950
Enermax 1500w Maxrevo
Celeron cpu
Asrock Z97 Extreme 4

The worst part is it cuts out randomly, sometimes it can be 10mins and others 12hours.

When I have seen the cut outs it happens exactly the same as if the PSU cuts from being over loaded.

I had also observed the power spikes in GPUZ and it normally happens when a share is accepted.

I had guessed that it might cut out, say, in the rare instance that 5 or 6+ shares are found simultaneously which causes a huge spike cutting the PSU which would explain why it cuts after an arbitrary amount of time.

I have no watt meter, however, I assume my cards are running the PSU near to the limit but but I can't check.

I have never really got to the bottom of the problem, however, it seems running Afterburner -20 power limit core at 1050mv leaves my system stable indefinitely.

I thought one cable is insufficient for one card with power spikes. For some reason it could be that the psu is unable to deliver the necessary power if the 12v line is weak. I mean, it could be that from the six or eight pcie connectors on the psu, some can deliver less current?

When I wrote my post, I had started to try with two cables on one card and I thought it crashed because I was at work and the pool made me thought the miner crashed. But my wife checked it and it was still running. I'll post if that is the solution.

If it still fails, I'll boot on linux and test more.

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Question for all...

I have an issue I've never had before.  I have 12 rigs running, half msi 480 x 6cards and half R9 Furys x 5cards.   Two of my Fury rigs have some type of oily liquid leaking.  It's coming from one of the cards on each rig. Ever since I switched to 11.1 and started messing with the intensity did I notice the leaking.  I pulled the cards and am going to RMA them, was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them.  The temps of the cards aren't even close to the max rated so I'm not sure what the cause is.  The ambient temp in the room has been the same since I started mining 2ish months ago, fans blowing on all rigs.

I had a similar issue with a bad batch of MSI 280x fans a few years back.

Apparently the fan hub/bearing includes a gel lubricant, which when run at high speed over an extended span can become liquefied and be forced out of the fans.
I had several rigs with every card partially coated in a very thin layer of the stuff, one even had a slow-motion drip suspended from the bottom edge of the PCB.
Thankfully I'm told the gel is non-conductive, and I only noticed the issues when the fans began to seize up.

MSI should RMA them no sweat, there's just no guarantee they'll send more Furys. My most recent RMA of R9 290s was replaced with 6GB GTX 1060s

could be flux.  I wouldnt worry too much if it hashes correctly.  Send an email to the manufacturer and ask.  Or as the above poster said, gel.

Hey, its probably coming form the cooling fan bearing. A couple of years ago I had a couple of sapphire reference 7950's. they were on dual slots over under in a tower. The top one (which always runs hottest) dripped that smudgy fluid (grease or flux) out and down onto the 2nd card below it and shorted out the pcb circuit board due to where it was leaking out from above. After that card died, I looked at the one above and noticed a thin film of that horrid grease in and around the blower housing and fan itself. Long story short, they blamed me for spilling water or some liquid substance on it and would not honor the warranty. But they finally did come back after I had to become an Azzhole with them about it and gave me a new sapphire dual fan card for a discounted price,,, (which I still mine with to this day  Grin) and was the best they could do he said. However it was there crappy designed fans that were leaking.

I also do computer repair for a living..... it was the fan bearing grease of sorts.

I have been using the latest drivers with no issues.... some may argue others are better.... but for me its the latest.

On my r9 390 I am getting 315 hashes at stock settings.

huh? seems fine here... I think lol I'm hashing as normal it seems. However flypool has not found a block for an hour which is odd, Just looked at dwarf and it found a block 50536 a minute ago? so

Edit: Something peculiar is going on tho... maybe some massive farm joined the network....

ok, flypool just hit a block!!

Hashing has nothing to do with it.

There is an overhead of z transactions that seem to delay t transactions.  After 35 minutes block found, and then another, but i still have transactions with 0 confirmations...

Yes, in 50537 came my money,  118851 B, big block!

something fishy here. crap I hope there is not an issue or bug! or broken chain, I have a lot to sell yet Shocked

EDIT: just got another deposit and all are confirming now  Smiley 4 in all, weird

Delays are normal if the block is geting bigger, but that has a point in Bitcoin where the 1M limit is almost always full.

In Zcash, 20 or 100 K is not so big to cause such delays.

I suspect that has to do with the shielded transactions, they somehow "consume" a lot of resources in the block.  If you see inside the latest blocks  (https://explorer.zcha.in/blocks) they are many of them.

The Shielded Value Distribution is increasing, 40800 Zecs:  https://explorer.zcha.in/statistics/value , which is nice of course.  It will have a positive impact on the price.

makes sense, but this is the first I have seen this "lag" in the transactions.

ok thx for that info  Wink

Hi,
I need your help.
I have 2x 280X cards and I was using the v8.0 miner (because that's what the pool I'm using directed me at).
Everything was working fine, until I upgraded to the newest amd driver 2 weeks ago. After that the miner would get stuck in a loop at random times, telling me that there was an issue with the gpu.
I've downloaded v11.1 and tried that, but the problem got worse. The miner will get stuck immediately after startup.
I downgraded my driver to 15.12 hoping that would fix the problem. It works more or less now. I can only use my primary card, in the upper most pci-e slot.
For diagnostics I took that one out and started the miner with the other card in the second slot. I immediately got an error message, telling me that no opencl gpu was found.
Is there a way to get my second card running again? (It will neither work with the v8.0 version that was just running fine before the driver update)

Did you use DDU to uninstall the existing drivers before installing the new drivers.

Claymore,

Would it be possible to add voltage control for the older cards, such as the 79xx series? I know some older miners had those options. If its a easy copy/paste job it would be much appreciated. If its difficult, its not a serious issue.

Thanks for all the hard work.

I'd like to know if there were some methods to query each GPU/CPU hashrate ,not only total hashrate . Via TCP/IP socket (ip:3333) I can send
{"id":0,"jsonrpc":"2.0","method":"miner_getstat1"}
to query total hashrate, I realy want to know how to query each hashrate, would you like to tell that ? Thank you very much~!

is there a way to monitor my rings remotely from my phone? at this moment I use time viewer to periodically log into a loos standing pc on the netwerk. The network is firewalled to reduce the chance of being hacked so connecting directly to each rigs is not possible.

I see there is an app on play store but not sure if it safe to install and connect to my rigs

Im using Claymore Dual Miner Monitor. In miner i use -mport -80 option to disallow control from outside. Just to watch rig stat.

Problem with app is that it dosnt run on background sometimes.

BR/ RAKOT

And of coz you should have static ISP IP set and port forwarding on your Internet router

Thank I did the same now. set the port to -3333 so that miner can't be changed. The app, Claymore/optiminer Monitor seems to work fine when I connect to my VPN via the GSM network. Better than using TeamViewer, that is for sure. I wish it had a widget or alarms but as the VPN will disconnect frequently when coming it is better not to have alarms.

Not that keen to setup port forwarding at this time. I have been hacked before so VPN provides an additional layer of protection.

VPN is needed for sure. Im using 80 port only for reason bkz my corp. FW where Im working doesnt allow nonstandart ports. So Im using 80 or 443 to watch the rigs.
Anf of couse I can browse the miner log in browser by entering http://ISP_rig_address or http://ISP_rig_address:443
