I think due to all the controversy regarding the first few weeks of the currency in the market, some serious investors may stay away from it for a while. This was the only coin I saw worth more than one Bitcoin, and after that the currency only fell in price, and many people lost money on it. I think it was not a good idea to distribute it that way. Perhaps the zero-knowledge proof tech makes the currency reach a wider market, but that percentage that goes into the hands of developers will also generate controversy.

Bitcoin except when provable anonymity is needed. And the decentralization of GPU/CPU vs ASICs.
Asking for a crypto "usage" is like asking for the reason of the dollar. I mean - it just depends on what everyone else values it on the day you're ready to buy / sell it. Not. That. Hard.
i know that's the claimed usage, but i'd like to see if there are any actual projects or vendors planning to make any use of it considering it has some heavyweight backers. what does it have that xmr don't? Their anonymity features are different. Ring signatures vs essentially a ring signature back to every transaction back to the beginning of time. Zcash = better privacy technology. paid heavyhitting bets. Monero = Fairer / no presale launch. Been around longer. Less stress on the blockchain from tons of transactions.

I do not think that it is the best time to invest in Zcash as the price is declining and if you look at the graph it is not that good.It is a good coin to mine at the moment so that you could make a good money with it at the moment.
Well, I think that we would have to wait at least 4 years after the launch of ZCash to be able to see the true price of it. That would be the time when the founder's reward would end, thus having an impact on ZEC value on the markets. In the meantime, it would be ideal to invest into other Zero Knowledge Proof coins, until ZEC becomes usable and stable enough to hold onto your wallet. I've been earning some free ZEC using faucets, even if the payout isn't much at all. It is a good way to store those earnings for the future, as it would make a nice addition to your profits, once you decide to invest into ZCash. Nevertheless, I hope to see some good development and innovation for ZEC by the end of this year. Just my thoughts.

Forget ZEC, go for Zclassic instead...
The situation of Zclassic now is pretty similar to Bitcoin in 2009... Great coin, little visibility, but massive potential, we'll see

Better anonymity. More elite (and more) devs - like the best in the space. I can't remember about the blockchain size. XMR has more projects because it's been around for 2+ years. Right now it's purely driven by speculation. And low supply due to coin release schedule similar to bitcoin (vs XMR releasing all upfront.).

It's the same Doge joke. Except that it is 1.0 trillion coins of Dogecoin, While Zcash are 100 coins. A joke. The acronym ZEC is ridiculous and reminiscent of the children's show Power Rangers. Zec, inspired by Power Ranger's Zack:

Looking at the history with these type of "fair" distributions I'd personally go for ZCL.

I'm really glad I sold all my Zcash coins when the price was $50. I got them from mining, so it was still profitable for me, but holding the coins in a long term doesn't seem like a good idea anymore. The price keeps falling down and I don't see any big announcement or anything what could change the situation in a near future. It's good to take a look on it from time to time and if anything changes, we can rebuy it at a lower price than is today.

I was voting about ZCL much better than zcash. with fair distribution and it looks like ZCL was starting from the reverse way of the ZEC with his fake hype. and totally crap hype of zcash.

Thanks for your reply. ZClassic would be a viable investment nowadays, due to its active community and fair distribution. It resembles Bitcoin's path, perhaps making it a very successful Zero Knowledge Proof coin in the long term. The competition is fierce among many ZCash/Zcoin clones, but only those who can provide constant development, an active community, and usability, may be prone to survive in the future. Nevertheless, I won't invest into ZCash until I find its price to be stable enough among the markets. Since it's in its first 4 years of mining for the founder's reward, its price would become rather unstable. I hope that after that, its true value would be revealed among the popular exchanges. Just my thoughts.

i haven't been into Zcash as much, I just know that there's people mining it like it's Bitcoin or Litecoin so the coin might have potential but with the other coins that are getting released within 2017 it is really hard to say if purchasing Zcash is worth it or not.

No, not worth. The share of mining for the founders is a turnoff and the hype is now over. The price is slowly falling and i wonder how the guys who bought zcash at 7btc on launch are feeling right now

There had been mentionings of blockchain bloat regarding monero. And RingCT seems to escalate that further. The mining subsidity of Zcash is unacceptible, there even exists a "classic" fork (inspired by ETC probably) to avoid these.

Yeah you are absolutely right it had so much hype when it released and many people even believed it is the next bitcoin and god knows what all they started thinking but if you see now it just like those coins which come and go. I wouldn't recommend anyone to invest in zcash for now.

Yes. That is one of the things that it should be of concern to Monero developers, as blockchain bloat would cause huge delays within transaction confirmations, as well as limit its ability to scale at any time. In the case of ZCash, it had a bad launch and unfair distribution, so it would render its ability to rise in price and traction anytime soon. The founder's reward, in my own opinion, looks more like a premine to me. No, not worth. The share of mining for the founders is a turnoff and the hype is now over. The price is slowly falling and i wonder how the guys who bought zcash at 7btc on launch are feeling right now
The hype is one of the things that caused ZCash's price to rise exponentially, but it only lasted for a few days, making it now a huge loss for those who invested into it, in its early days. Maybe after the founder's reward period is over, ZCash's price could rise back up to its initial levels, but it would be up to debate whenever the same could deliver usability and worldwide acceptance from individual, businesses, and companies. In the meantime, we would need to be patient until the markets stabilize and reflect ZEC's true value. Just sharing my thoughts.
