Bitcoin Classic 0.11.2
@gavinandresen gavinandresen released this a day ago

Bitcoin Classic Release Announcement
We are happy to announce Bitcoin Classic version 0.11.2, the first release of Bitcoin Classic.

If you installed beta 2, there are no changes except for the version number.

About this Release
This is the first Bitcoin Classic release, focused on doubling the transaction capacity of Bitcoin.
It includes a consensus rule change that increases the block size limit from one megabyte to two megabytes.

Bitcoin Classic 0.11.2 is based on Core version 0.11.2, and is compatible with its blockchain files and wallet.

Roadmap
Our next release will be based on Bitcoin Core version 0.12, and is expected to be ready in the next weeks.

In parallel, we will focus development on features that have been requested by miners and companies for a long time now, and that will help Bitcoin scale on-chain:

Faster block validation
Faster block propagation
These features will help alleviate bandwidth issues tremendously, and will make sure nodes & miners can continue to operate properly, without requiring super fast connections.

More importantly, this will enable Bitcoin to scale to a much higher transaction volume.

We would like to thank everyone who helped realize this

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

So, now it is Blockstream against Bloq Inc...

Quote
Bloq has five customers, including bitcoin startups Circle Internet Financial Ltd, ItBit Trust Company LLC, and KnCMiner AB, and expects to soon add Foxconn Technology Group, which assembles iPhones and other electronics. Garzik said Bloq has raised less than $250,000 from his co-founder Matt Roszak's Tally Capital. The company's board of advisors includes bitcoin experts Andrew Filipowski, James Newsome, Nick Szabo, and Gavin Andresen.

If you want your own altcoin based on bitcoin hire Bloq guys?!

Bitcoin was intended to have a scripting lang   like Ether, but it was taken out for security concerns.
with Ether we can have our "smart contracts" and what not without having to expose BTC  to security issues.
good good.

Not taken out - just had some functionality disabled.

Segregated witness fixes this problem. It will allow bitcoin to run more complex scripts and opcodes than currently possible.

Well, thats the theory anyway...  I suspect that actually trying to implement this will create new holes that will require a great deal of time to fully investigate.
But if its done right, then it should *could* be functionally capable as Ethereum.

Just as we start to raise into mid 380's these classic people make another bombing run and we are back in 370s. Hopefully coinbase and block-chain alliance buddies do not release any supporting statements and classic continues its fade into obscurity. This will mean price increase.

Bitcoin is too inflexible for what Ethereum is trying to do and vice versa. With Bitcoin Ethereum has a safe and reliable store of value which it can integrate into its systems. With Ethereum Bitcoin has a platform uniquely suited to expand its potential. It's a win-win situation.

When and how did Ethereum solve the two-way-peg-problem that is required for it to "use Bitcoin as a reliable store of value which it can integrate" ?

Ethereum will not work like a sidechain. Distributed apps running on ethereum will run Bitcoin wallets and operate them through smart contracts.... I think.

ETH is seeing the bubble meant to be for bitcoin. Everybody is "waiting for the consolidation" to get in...

Sounds familiar!? > ETH is 2011 all over again.

Nuts. Angry
Because it requires Bitcoin to purchase, if it gets to a much higher price, then a competitor-clone to ETH will replace it and use less bitcoins.
