if a global ledger can be derailed by one sad, mad old Brazilian then that don't reflect too well on the ledger or the Brazilian.

he is on a payroll of a serious enemy of bitcoin. banks? swift? WU?

if this guy would dedicate the same amount of effort into fighting the obvious ponzi scam ONEcoin, then - and only then - i would believe he isn´t a paid anti bitcoin professional.

incredible how much damage one fucker can do.

Only damage he did was get his name on some report that the SEC used to extend the date of the rule change in order to facilitate yet another of the 100s of ways to get bitcoins. Which they would have done anyway.

I can still get paid and live on bitcoins. Bitcoin user not affected.

Agree. He's of no significance to the SEC or their decision. Cases like this are long and take a lot of legal effort in order to get to a fulfillment point. In other news, what I fail to comply with is the fact that Stolfi after all those years he spent around with us he had 2 major disasters:

1. He STILL fails to "get" it
2. He never bought while it was low but kept being in denial up until now.

Came back into this mess to say congrats to our dear prof. Jorge Stolfi. A truly fantastic piece of text written by arguably one of the best bitcoin trolls on Earth.

STOLFI!!!! YOU BASTARD!!!!!!

Quote
After the initial application in June, the SEC set a 45-day period for comments. It received six — most infamously one from Bitcoin critic Jorge Stolfi in July. The Brazilian computer science academic referred to Bitcoin using terms like “ponzi” and “penny stock”.

That's just hilarious. You've got to laugh.

Oh, Stolfi.

The joke's on Stolfi TBH. That stupid idiot fails to see that only 6 (!) people in the entire world bothered to comment at all, and none of them are heavy-hitting, big money industry or finance people with any clout whatsoever needed to sway anyone.  He is a nobody, and his comment is equal to a random troll on the internet commenting, has about the same weight.

So the ETF will get approved.... his silly commenting will have zero effect.

Only just noticed that, Stolfi the creep, what's his game? He's just butthurt because he knew about bitcoin for years, didn't invest therefore losing himself a potential fortune & now he wants to fuck everyone else.

I often have asked myself how someone can have so much hate for something with such a passion like Stolfi.
And you could be right. When he knows about Bitcoin since the early years and never had invested any dime, your thoughts would absolutely make sense.
Poor bastard that guy!!! Cheesy

...half a dozen 'writeoffs' indicating he is a fool having no effect. I think we underestimate him.

I vehemently disagree with nearly all of Stolfi's conclusions, but I disagree his actions have been ineffectual.  He already has had an effect. The newest publication by the SEC, its language and questions were steered by his submission - along with the others.

He has spent a few years building credibility as a 'professional Bitcoin opponent'. But why? Everyone has motives for their actions. I always to try find the simplest explanation (which considers ALL available data).  Increasingly, it appears his was visibility and exposure, so that when the time came for a surgical strike, i.e. SEC commenting, his comments would not be waved off as the ravings of a lunatic.  This is a long term investment, with past efforts now coming to fruition and hurting Bitcoin.

It is easy to write that off as the efforts of an obsessed curmudgeon or luddite.  I've long wondered whether he has ever received compensation for his efforts.

The good news is, very few people fall into his camp.  Conversely, there are a large number of well-known, articulate Bitcoin advocates.
My hope is that his publication serves as a clarion call to proponents.  It matters not whether that call is heard by both sides, as respected proponents outweigh respected opponents.

Best case, this most recent comment request will address each SEC-generated question multiple-times-over by proponents, in order for them to fairly weigh both the advantages and disadvantages of many of their legitimately-raised concerns.

Stolfi and having credibility? Man I hope you're kidding!
No one here has ever taken this guy serious! He is nothing more than a joke and a lost, frustrated soul!!
And as others here already have mentioned, if it wasn't for Stolfi's comment, the SEC would have found other reasons to delay the decision for an approval.
Let's see it positive, more time to accumulate more Bitcoin for a good price! Smiley

Only just noticed that, Stolfi the creep, what's his game? He's just butthurt because he knew about bitcoin for years, didn't invest therefore losing himself a potential fortune & now he wants to fuck everyone else.

I doubt that it is accurate to assert that Stolfi has a direct financial interest or that he is butt hurt in a financial way because he fails and refuses to invest any money into bitcoin.

I do take Stolfi at his word, at least in respect that he is not investing in bitcoin at all because he wants to maintain some kind of academic and intellectual neutrality.

On the other hand, even though he proclaims to be a neutral skeptical academic, he is a fucking troll, who misleads and selectively picks facts, frequently selectively avoids many material facts that are not in his favor, emphasize petty immaterial and speculative (not very likely facts) while ignoring downplaying the more relevant.

Stolfi may frequently employ decent logic and analysis, after he has selectively chosen his facts, yet he remains disingenuous because he tends to show that he is smarter than that and his selectivity remains a kind of intentionality... I believe that there is nothing wrong with being a skeptic, a bitcoin bear or someone who choses to either not invest or bet against bitcoin, but I do find a problem with intentional purposeful and misleading selectivity in dealing with known material facts.

I seem to recall that Stolfi is pretty much mid-to-late 2013 when he started to look into bitcoin.... He had asserted that this forum was one of his first places to begin to discuss and look into bitcoin, so you can look at his registration date as a decent approximation of his bitcoin start date.

Actually, this is a very plausible and likely status of Stolfi.

And, at least, if he is not on the payroll, he is irrationally and purposefully doing their bidding with his nonsensical mostly unspoken loyalty.

It is common knowledge that those in position of mass influence are often paid to promote.

Various public disclosure records have shown lies by government officials, scientists, pastors, teachers, food suppliers, chemical industrialists, software developers, google, youtube, nearly all mainstream media and the list goes on.

It is then important for community to discuss among themselves the issues and resolve them through direct decentralized democracy.

Opinions, reports and news from people of mass influence cannot be trusted......

Is this is all he got?? Clearly he doesn't know what a penny stock is, thus can't tell the difference between a "penny stock" and a "ponzi schema" as he's not even sure what to equate bitcoins to  Huh Might as well write that bitcoin will eat all your children or start a war!!, you know one of those barely relatable, but most importantly, VERY BAD THINGS!!

Going back to our beloved brazilian friend we all know the SEC will not take a decision based on an individual opinion. I mean the US government loves bitcoin, they got so much money out of it with those auctions.

They'll get even more from the ETF approval

Weak sauce indeed. Stolfi is capable of some astute insights but economically he often makes bizar claims.  Replace the word bitcoin with gold and you see how ridiculous these claims are.  "But this gold bar has no staff I tell you, so it must be a Ponzi ! "
Lol, reminds me of Nagle.
