... Yet the price of Tether haven't really crashed. BUT... what has crashed is all the crypto market which I think could be related. What if it was Tether/Bitfinex that had USDT somewhat backed.... NOT by USD but by a mix of USD, BTC and many other crypto?
If that were the case they would have been forced to liquidate those crypto assets to maintain the USDT peg stable. And, having to back more than 2 billion dollars overnight requires a lot of dumping, which causes panic and many other people dump too. Also as the price of the crypto assets go lower, more (coin units) dumping is required to extract the same value.... and there you have your doom circle.
Is that what has happened? Maybe, or at least it has been one in many factors behind the "crash".
Good post. What if I told you that actually a Bitfinex employee (bfx_drew) (accidentally?) blurted out exactly this a few weeks ago? Most of us know that it is highly unlikely that institutional investors have wired 2.2 billion $ and 85 M € to a sketchy entity like Tether. However, it is entirely possible that Tethers are actually backed by cryptocurrencies. E.g. exchanges like Binance make a ton of income in trading fees, but they collect it in various altcoins and not in fiat and they surely would prefer to hold it in a stable coin like USDT instead of random altcoins. That this could be a problem in the event of falling prices is obvious as @bitserve correctly pointed out in his post. That would also make some sense as to the timing of the Friedman LLP audit being terminated.

Was out of the office a couple of days. Today I heard a couple of collegues actually sold at the bottom! Shaking out the weak hands really works..... =(
Never owned more bitcoin than I do today. I am a lousy trader, which fortunately I know, so I haven’t had so little fiat for quite a while. Many are in for gaining dollars, euros or whatever fiat currency (not judging, perfectly normal). Few want to take the risk of accumulating a fixed stake in a truly decentralized ledger with mostly still unknown potential. I feel fortunate being able to spend most of my pay so frivolously. Minor quibble: The potential is known. The degree to which that potential will end up being realized, and the timetable, is the unknown.

At least the crash made the fees go lower.
I was able to send bitcoin to a brand new wallet, to claim my BTG using the old one.
However, I just discovered today, after synching the entire BTG blockchain, that this altcoin have no replay protection.
All the operations were replayed in the BTG chain. Im very sad, cant reclaim it.
I will be more careful with those forks now.

What are you talking about? It does have replay protection. In fact BTG have different addressing than BTC. What did you use to claim it?

Then you should still have the private key or seed for the new address

Its actually "Life on Mars" and yes sound waves can propagate thru the martian atmosphere but not at the levels found on earth. ei..the martian atmosphere is 1% of earths at sea level. http://www.planetary.org/explore/projects/microphones/sounds-on-mars.htmlCCMF

I used the BTG qt wallet in their website. Use Coinimi android wallet, it’s really easy to just sweep the private keys to claim your free BTG. If you had bitcoin’s in those addresses prior to the BTG fork then you already said you have moved your bitcoin’s, so use Coinimi to claim your BTG.

I do indeed work in standards as my day gig. However, ones of a very different nature. Without the standards I work on, none of this shit would even start working. I thought you were too crypto rich to have a day job. I have previously explained the discrepancy. Around end of 17Q3, I tendered my resignation, effective end of 18Q2. The projects I am shepherding have a long development cycle. I feel I owe it to the industry to complete two of these longer term projects. Even with the comparatively long runway to ceasing employment, at least one of these projects will continue for another quarter or two. But I will no longer be responsible in that interim for other things my (at that time previous) employer might otherwise find for me.

I tried another copy of my previous wallet, and it worked now.
However, this copy had a segwit address in it. Dont know what happened, it is very strange because this segwit address was added after the fork, not before, as a experiment at the time.
The original wallet was bugged for no reason, there was no address in the addresses list, in the BTG version. The list was intact in the BTC version.
