Barrel of oil equivalent = 6.1178632×109 J Antminer S17+ 70TH/s rated @ 40J/TH
6.1178632×109 J/bbl x 600 bbl = 3,670,717,926,540 J
3670717926540 J / 40J/TH = 91,767,948,163.5 TH
How many bitcoin can I mine in 91,767,948,163.5 TH?
The probability that any give hash will lead to a valid block is 1/(232D), where D is difficulty currently D = 13,912,524,048,946
So, 91,767,948,163.5x1012H x 1/(23213,912,524,048,946)/Block = 1.5357666489943172022545931579071 Blocks (currently 12.5BTC/Block)
= 19.197083112428965028182414473839 BTC
Wow. I thought it would have been much more. We're killing the planet!!
We're about to mine BTC900/day so that's 46.8821223895886 barrels per day, that's probably less than heating costs for one bank

A lesson to us all - the crash will eventually come and it will be like nothing we've seen before.
One by one, all rationalisations for 'no fear' or as others call it, 'cartoons', will be demolished. The moment of ultimate fear is not far away.

Oil at $0.01. So basically the entire population could buy a barrel, HODL in the backyard and make a 100-1,000x+ killing in a short period of time? Pass me 20 barrels please Try -$40 for WTI May futures

Trading fees from lowest to highest: Kraken<Coinbase Pro<Gemini, but not by much (0.10% lowest, 0.35% highest)
Not quite. Coinbase Pro maker trade fee is zero, if you do $50million USD volume in a 30-day period.

er, maybe a different number (or not). one barrel is 1700kwh, calculate from there considering that S17+ is 2.8kw

Big chance we are going up hard here... soon.
FTFY If you've ever read any of my posts you know I am not a BTC bear... but markets do not make sense right now. Which is an understatement. I am hopeful, very hopeful that BTC starts to shine... right now. But the markets are about to set new lows. The draw on BTC is going to be pretty damn hard. I really really hope I am wrong. I mean... who knows. Maybe the S&P closes up or even today? Lol. Unlike... EVERYTHING... else, bitcoin can not be faked. It has a limited supply. The amount and degree of manipulation even theoretically possible is infinitely smaller than the legacy markets. Hodl strong.

**CME REPORTS WTI FUTURES TRADE AT NEGATIVE PRICES FOR THE FIRST TIME.
WTI MAY @-0.01 -1.43 -7.3 -40
*I cannot even stay behind this.
wow, just wow
Please note that there are no more options on this contract. It's only a future expiring tomorrow. Everyone long this future (banks, speculatore etc..) now HAS to close the position unless willing to go to Cushing and get the delivery of the oil.
-37 USD im impressed. was watching this on the news and even the talking heads didnt know what to think of it.

It looks like about 390 barrels per block if the above numbers are correct. Even after the halving, this won't change unless the difficulty goes up. If we mined on oil, that would be 56,160 barrels per day. I think the vast majority of bitcoin is mined on cheap renewable energy like hydro or thermal though.

Not quite. Coinbase Pro maker trade fee is zero, if you do $50million USD volume in a 30-day period. yea, but only for market orders. I guarantee that you would slip (be carried by coinbase) by more than 0.15% (around $10) on a large market order.

probably simulate all that analog gear with a raspberry pi now. well except for the analog "sound" perhaps.
Fairlight CMI - Computer Musical Instrument. Not much of that 'analog' sound. that whole wall on the right is Elektor Formant modules, nary a 1 or 0 in sight Yet Herbie was playing the Fairlight, was he not?

You cant, it's a futures contract. If you buy now, you physically need to go and get the oil. That's why the crash happened and people were closing positions. The next futures that expires trades at around 20$ currently, but this freefall will probably affect that one too. Whoever is currently holding an oil futures contract is playing a dangerous game.
