I am in trouble with the 3 fresh Saphires. 2x 56 (bios modded to 64) and a 64. The rig (these 3 sapth + 2x64 and 1 56 all powercolor) , like 10-15-20 mins, and then suddenly the miner stops.
I've tried several different sets of settings and mods - same result. They are all connected to one 1000W power supply, the 3 power colors that I had for more than a week have zero problems (running at 1407/870 and 1100/850), they are attached to the other power supply.

It seems like the problem is not the memory - with my other rig, the memory crashes were happening way faster. I guess its the voltage, but how exactly should I identify the card that is causing the crash?
After the xmr stak hangs, windows crashes when I close it. And every time, the last card to remain full red before the restart is the one on the PCE-E 16 slot.

Also, at the times where I get real time read on the restart, when pressing H on xmr stak, the first thread of card 0-1 has N/A as value, for a few seconds. But how can that be - it has been working great with even lower voltages and higher memory than the values I am using atm?

As I am already fighting this for straight 16h, I made it stable at 1100 core/875mV and 1025 mem/875mV. Hashing measy 9600 H/s for the 6 cards ... but at least its working since almost 90 mins.

My basic plan for tomorrow:

1. Reinstall drivers, and put the 3 power color card that have been flawless first. Mod em, make sure they work for 2-3 hours .
2. Add a single saphire, mod it , try differnent voltage settings until it works stable.
3. and so on ...

But is it possible, that adding the saphire causes issues with the powercolors? As the whole mess just doesnt make any sense Sad Any ideas how to continue the fight?

Click the miner window and hit Q just like you pull up the stats with S key.

4x vega 56 w/ 64 bios and 800mem bios

manual set 1350/1100
i also tried 1350/1050

I have an annoying issue where the cast-xmr will crash. upon reboot the drivers are back to stock voltage etc in overclock.

pretty much have to DDU.

Anyone had this issue before and figure out the cause?

i checked into the logs, it's asif the drivers are getting corrupted..

Can you clarify something:  are you applying  a SoftPowerPlay registry modification, or not?  I ask because like you all my Vega 56s have been flashed with the 64 bios.

If you are using a SoftPowerPlay mod, you can leave it at a stock, safe setting that at least safely reboots.  Then, after rebooting, you can use OverDriveNTool to load whatever custom saved profile you wish.  Only takes a few seconds to hit "load" and then "apply".  No need to retype all the values after each reboot.

I'm using the 800 mem powerplay table as per hellae's reddit.

I then push up the mem to 1100 and down the gpu to 1350.

are you saying i can use that saved profile in odt even without applying the registry setting?

i have some questions for you or anyone who's familiar with this card

I installed 5 vega 56. flashed them and in the windows registry, instead of seeing just 0000, 0001 to 0005, I see 12 folders 0000, 0001 to 0011.

some of the folders mention rx vega but I didn't check all of them.

I ran DDU twice and i still see 4-5 folders and except for 0000, the other folders contain just 1 line of generic info.

if i still see 12 folders again, Do i still run the reg mod file and edit the target folders for 0001 to 0011?

Easiest way to identify which ones to flash is under device manager.  Right click the GPU you want to look at and select properties > Details tab > scroll down to Driver Key.

Looks like this.

The important part is resetting the GPU's to default in wattman after you have used the registry edit on all of them and rebooted.

Depends which route you take.  I prefer OverdiveNTool and not even install amd software, but most people start off with wattman.

I'm confused.

the definitive monero guide says use 1 of 3 reg files (1100MHz HBM @ 905mV,1050MHz HBM @ 905mV, 850MHz HBM @ 905mv) then the page references a youtube video that uses reg files from a overclocknet page, morepower vega64.  so which is it?

My main PC (win 10 aug 23 drivers, vega 64, 16Gb DDR4 ram)
At first I tried the 1100MHz HBM @ 905mV file but after a while it doesn't work anymore and I ended up using 1 of the morepower reg files and I have no idea which is the one I used. How do I tell which is the one I used??

Also, gpuz ver 2.4 doesn't show the power draw, in fact it shows very little data. I had to use hwinfo to show the core and memory power usage of 56w and 27w respectively.
https://i.imgur.com/1UYdsHV.gif

2nd PC (G4400, biostar btc250 pro, 4gb of ram, 50Gb of virtual ram, windows 10, oct 23 drivers)
either way, I can't seem to get 1 of the cards working. whenever I have 5 cards together, there will be 1 card that shows a code 43 error. overdriventool says gpu is not recognised or driver not installed. But when I tried 1 card at a time, it hashes ether nicely but draws too much power. Gpuz ver 2.4 says it draws 220w.

overdriveNtool behaves in a weird manner as well. 1 of the P states for the core shows 1420mhz  and P3 state for the memory shows 1150mV, power target is blank and when I tried to set the limit to 70, it gives me an error about being unable to set power limit. After closing and restarting the ovedriveNtool, it suddenly shows the stored values of the profiles I used for my main PC (above)

Just out of curiosity, (doing a little research and planning, couldn't find a thread on the subject), anyone here have any crypto rigs mining inside a "hydroponics" grow tent?

I've got a couple dozen Vega 56s and I am wondering what is the maximum operating temperature for the Vegas.  I already plan on moving about 720 CFM of air to the outside.

I remember one thread here about that.  It works quite well in fact.  Vegas dont like heat though, as they will throttle.  720cfm is good airflow, but the tent will still be very warm.

So I completed the tent project for the 24 Vegas.

https://imgur.com/a/RdnGr

Here's where to buy the tent:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SUEHYJ8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's the 8" duct fan to carry away the hot air:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CAHM75W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's the 4" duct fan to carry the heat to a room (for cold winters) above where the tent is located:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M7S46YZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also use 2 8" personal fans to blow in cold air at ground level into the tent.

The tent is in a basement.  I had to bust through the brick and install an outdoor register vent.  Mine is just above the basement doors.  I connected about 10 feet of 8" insulated flex duct to that and into the tent.  I bypassed an existing 6" flex duct and routed it to the tent, stepped it down to 4", to heat the room above if needed.  The fan for that duct is controlled by the web power switch outlet.  The 8" fan runs continuously to the outside.

Inside the tent, which has plenty of room for more rigs if this experiment works, is a simple 4 shelf wire shelving unit.  Six open air wood frame rigs fit nicely on them.  I suppose one could just build their rigs directly on the racks.  The ethernet switch, web power switch, and monitor (when needed) fit on the top shelf.  I access these headless rigs with TightVNC.  I had previously run 3 separate, dedicated, 20 amp circuits to this room. 2 rigs (4 GPUs/each) per circuit.  (Having said that I doubt that I will run more circuits down to this area of the basement to fully utilize the size of this tent.  I have a little buyer's remorse and now recognize that I could have gotten away with a tent about half this size.)

The Vegas are stock 56s and using XMR-Stak as described here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MoneroMining/comments/74hjqn/monero_and_vega_the_definitive_guide/
I use the DevCon batch file to initialize the miners. They average 1800 h/s/GPU.  The GPU fans are set to keep the GPU at 70F with OverdriveNtool. (I may BIOS mod and registry hack later.)  Just concerned with heat dissipation currently.

Now for the heat details:  I approached this problem as if the temperature inside the tent would be analogous to the temperature inside a gamer's computer case.  Most sources I found stated that those temps could easily be in the 50C range.  So I knew I had to beat that to protect the hardware.  Sapphire tech support got back with me and stated that the maximum acceptable operating temp for the Vega 56 was 92C. WOW!  The average temperature of the basement is 64F now and never higher than 70F in the summer.  I utilized the motherboard's temperature sensor as well as an independent simple outdoor thermometer dangling from the top support inside the tent.  Without the 4" fan in use, the tent got up to 112 F (44C).  That was good, so I used some other ideas to see if it could be improved.  I placed four 20" box fans behind the rigs.  As was previously stated in this thread, it hurt the cause, it did not help.  Unlike when in use behind double dissipation GPUs, the blowers on the Vegas already direct the exhaust "forward." So the box fans remain, but are turned off.  With the 4" fan in use, I got the temperature down to 102F (39C).

I hope this helps anyone who is contemplating going about trying this tent concept.

I reconfigured 4 of my old Asrock 970 Extreme3 r2.0s and setup 2 new Asrock H81 PRO BTC R2.0 LGA 1150.  The downside of the 970s are limitations to 4 GPUs each.
