I don't really understand. with the xpm difficulty and reward like it is, it doesn't seem like it will be worth mining soon.
If all you care about is profit, then yeah.

Well, that is why the vast majority of people are mining.
I keep forgetting how rare altruistic ideals are.

unprofitable things simply can not sustain themselves. its not about being a good person.

Except for everything that's free, non-profit organisations, charities, etc.

Non-profit organization is a legal term. it just means that the organization is not a business. but it still has to generate profit, as in, NET income, in order to sustain itself. Generally in the form of donations or sponsorships. Charities are the same.

This is a derailment, but what about volunteers?

I was shocked to get home and see I found a block today with a vdi of ubuntu running at about 3500pps..  Meanwhile a vps running over 8000pps hasn't found anything in awhile..  Starting to wonder if cpu's really make a difference or is it just a lottery.

How many XPM per block now?

The latest one I received is 12.38

...and the reward per block is going to fall slowly (compared to the first few days). Even if the difficulty reaches 9, there will still be a reward of 12.33 XPM.
But as the formula for calculating the reward is in Sunny's paper (and for sure in the code if you can find it) and has been mentioned in lots of posts, I think I can stop the calculations Wink

But it looks like the the difficulty needs to rise a bit more:
last hour (today, 08:44 - 09:44 UTC)): approx. 218 blocks solved
same time frame yesterday:  approx. 193
same time frame the day before: approx. 139

I think when GPUminer comes out, total PPS will raise, then diff too. May be we only get 6-7XPM a block
Less coin produce, price go up.
So what's the reason to afraid of GPUminer? Am I right people?

This is under the assumption that there is a level playing field and not a select few will have use of a GPU miner.

In that case massive dumps of coins for pure profit will occur. That is the way I see it unfolding should the GPU miner not be publicly and freely distributed evenly once created.
