Where would the wallet.dat file be located on mac?
Default place would be:

~/Library/Application Support/Quarkcoin

You might need to actively look in the 'Library'.  Look up how to access it depending on your OS version.

Quark
I was recommending Quark way back in July 2013. It's since appreciated 50X. Let's see if the case still stacks up.

Q1: Inflation: The inflation problem is solved, most of the coins have already been issued and the inflation rate is now 0.5%. You'll hear people complaining about the 'pre-mine' – that's a really bullish sign. People don't complain about coins with unfair pre-mines, they ignore them. If there are complainers, it means they want in . . . but . . . yesterday. Well done Quark. (3/3)

Q2: Development: Community effort based on donations – same problem as Bitcoin (0/3)

Q3: Decentralization: Quark attempts to solve the hardware centralization problem through complexity. The proof-of-work algorithm is complex, so it's difficult to program for GPUs and GPUs are poorly suited to that kind of work. It'll slow down FPGA and ASIC development too, but they'll show up once the reward is high enough. Overall, a good effort – (2/4)

Quark Verdict (5/10) – There are still possible 100X returns with this coin.

Can  anyone list the exchanges currently pairing QRK?
Among them, which one does not require ID verification to deposit / withdraw?

I think cryptopia doesn't need ID verification.

I have an issue of my own though hopefully somebody can help with.

On a newer laptop I've downloaded a new wallet and replaced the wallet.dat file with the one from my old wallet.

There is still over three years to catch up on however I had earlier transactions than that which I would have thought would be shown by now.  Is this a sign that something has gone wrong or does it need to sync right up to date?

Quark the fidget spinner coin Wink What's the story with Shaq Fu 2?
What's the reason for sudden price spike?

The spike is from BTC38 moving Quark from the BTC exchange to the CNY exchange.  A sign of a higher price ceiling.  On the new side of the exchange, you can use yuan to directly buy Quark, where before you had to purchase Bitcoin and then do the purchase of Quark with the bitcoin.  No story with Shaq Fu at this time.

Quark dev team has restarted work and are close to a new POW/POS algorithm.  Which we assume is why BTC38 has made their change.  It looks like there are better days ahead.

Hope this helps...

Can anybody tell me whether I need to wait for my new wallet to completely sync before the transactions from my old wallet show in the balance?

Ah, I've worked it out.
I had renamed the backup wallet.dat file as something else which caused the new wallet to create a new wallet.dat even though I had already deleted it.

Deleting that and renaming the original back to wallet.dat has solved the problem and I see my quarks.

I thought I'd type this in case anybody has the same problem in the future.

Nice! Glad you got it worked out.  I was perusing the quarktalk forums, but I could not find anytning to help you.

Glad you are good to go!
