I think some of you have forgotten that Batch 1 customers have had the most to loose in this whole process. We provided the seed money to make this happen in the first place. I was under the impression that these boards were going to be designed, manufactured, and shipped from Australia. I believe having a second batch and manufacturing the boards in China is what caused these delays. If you disagree, then you are welcome to buy out my order (bobsag3).

Added: Quote from initial post in this thread "Assembly and production will be done either here in Sydney or San Francisco or both."

I too was under the impression that this was being designed and built in Australia, that's why I let people know about the project in the OCAU forums, several of the people there bough batch #1. I know we have several automated SMD production facilities in Australia, I am extremely disappointed China was chosen.

Do we have an idea on how long until they are shipped now?

I am most likely going to have to sell my board as soon as I get it to pay for my recent huge power bill anyway.  Cry

Guys, just as a business decision, with BTC nearing 500, these boards are profitable. Separate emotion from rational here. Anyone who sold their boards, you lost further money. Do the math on the Genesis Block calculator.

Yes, us 1st batchers took a chance and it would have been much better to have bought BTC. But, unfortunately the same has been true for most miner purchases in the last 6 months or more.

As I mentioned in my last post or so, I just want the company's info that is responsible for this so we can let our wallets do talking on this forum. They outright lied to Barntech and Co. That is where we can direct our feelings once shipped.

Now I have a mission. The Chinese Co. Will be known on this forum.

What's the black box with the green USB plugged into it?

That's the Plugable 7 port USB2 hub.  It's one of the few hubs out there that can both power and be used with a Raspberry Pi without any power issues or crashing issues even if all ports are filled with power hungry peripherals (like miners).  It has zero backfeed on the upstream port and provides 3A of power to the downstream ports.  Most hubs will struggle to power both a RPi and peripherals at the same time and cause the RPi to be unstable due to lack of power.

You can get it from Amazon here: http://goo.gl/hoK8kx

Here's a Youtube Video about the Plugable 7port Hub being used with a Raspberry Pi and peripheral setup with all ports filled with power hungry stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDA7MxFtoS0

You can get more info on USB Hub compatibility with Raspberry Pi's here: http://elinux.org/RPi_Powered_USB_Hubs

I see the first post in the thread was updated to have pricing in USD instead of BTC.  Assuming this is because BTC is hitting/approaching the 500 mark now.  Too bad it looks like no more boards available. Sad

Question on the final version of the Thumbs and Boards:

It's been stated earlier in the thread and on the website that the voltage/ov'clock buttons would be tested and may or may not be included on the final thumbs/boards.  Did they make it to the production versions or are we going to have to rely on software/firmware updating to push these guys?

What kind of compensation is being offered to Batch One buyers for this fiasco, because this is totally unfair.
This coming from a guy who's negative Trust score almost matches his activity number?
Comical.

Seriously why does that matter in regards to a GB that was paid in full?  Group one buyers are getting screwed, and thats undeniable.

Oh no, trust rating, on your precious forum  Huh  What do I do I will never be able to function in society again   Roll Eyes

Neutrally and from the outside looking in, probably because:
Next to your name it says - "Warning: Trade with Extreme Caution."
Rating of 5
Hadn't posted in over a month and then you posted here and are not involved.

That isn't against you, just showing you what it looks like from the outside. So, people might wonder if you are trying to stir things. I am not sure, just trying to answer your question.

Hello.

First things first, the new parts are set to arrive tomorrow and production will continue. Our timeline will pick up from there and the miners should be shipping by the end of the week. I can't promise that, but they should. We are doing everything in our power to make things go as smoothly as possible.

Thank you to everyone has come on here with kind words. As always, it is a pleasure to get such positive vibes from you all. Thank you for keeping the excitement and warmth in this project despite news of delays. Great to see the enthusiasm still flowing. Jedi, Spotswood, the case is looking great. Good work. I might have to get some those from you.  Smiley

To everyone getting heavy and freaking out, i hear you and i know its frustrating, trust me, i am more frustrated than you are. This is my every waking breathe these days, and after spending months of my life dedicated to this project, seeing things get stalled right in the final phase is devastating. There really is nothing that can be done at this point to make things go any faster, so please be patient and respectful. If you are really fed up and don't want to continue being a part of this, write to me and i'll refund you your full USD amount. Obviously i'd rather not have anyone pull out at this point, but if you are not into it any more you're welcome to leave.

Also, i'm not really that into people onselling their boards for profit. We agreed as a group quite a long time ago to not do the onselling presales thing. If you want to get rid of your boards, write to me and we can sort it out.

I also need to clear a few things up. Firstly, batch 1 and batch 2 doesn't mean anything anymore. It is an old concept. All the chips came at the same time, actually batch 2 chips came about three days before batch 1. What i have is one continuous order queue from the first person who placed their order to the last. That's it. In no way has the existence of batch 2 hindered or delayed batch 1. It is all one batch.

That said, some people joined early, some people joined late. Massive thanks to the people who placed early orders and helped build this thing from the beginning, it's true that you gave gave us the initial momentum we needed to get this project going. Much appreciated. You will all be the first packages sent. You also got free miniplanes.  Wink

As for producing in China, yes the initial plan was to produce in Australia or The States. I already had things in place with an Australian factory and had several other quotes and info from various U.S. manufacturers. In the end we chose to go the way we did because it promised much faster turnarounds, getting you all you miners quicker. That, and because we trusted the people helping us over there. We had no reason to expect that they would stuff things up. A mistake in hindsight but didn't feel like it at the time. Unfortunately going this route has cost us time rather than saving it, but honestly it felt like the best way to go when the decision was made. Americans and Australians are also capable of stuffing things up so maybe going a different route would have taken even longer.

Now please calm down the bad vibes. Please don't write me rude and abusive messages. I would much rather be working on completing this project than having to having to read abusive message from people i have been working on behalf of for months. Why do so many people on these forums think they're so entitled?

That said, hope you're all doing well. We'll all be mining soon. I'm still damn excited regardless of any of that shit. Nice to see bitcoin totally kicking arse. This makes much more of a difference to potential mining goodness than a short delay.

Cheers

Yes, it became too crazy having prices in BTC. Its always different. Thumbs are now $130 USD. There may be some more boards available soon so write to me if you want one.

As for the buttons, they didn't make it on the boards, these setting are controlled in software. You could however solder your own buttons on if you wanted to.  Wink

Barn, keep up the good work. Yes it sucks that it is taking longer that what was originally planned, but that is life. Those that want out should just sell your boards on ebay once they arrive, you will most likely make a bit of profit. I wish I had more funds available as I would have ordered more than one board. Sending good vibes your way Barntech.

I can say that personally, I am totally behind you and this group buy.

Every question i`ve had has been answered courteously and quickly.  and although this delay is understandable, it is incredibly frustrating.  I`m sure at the time, with all the information Barn etc had at the time it was a sound business decision, and I applaud them for taking a risk to attempt to get this thing done quicker.

Things haven`t worked out quite how we expected, but then, what does? EVER?

Bitcoin is kicking off.  Lets all be happy to be part of the fiscal revolution eh?

Keep it up guys.  You are playing a blinder Smiley

Barntech,

Thanks for the update. Stay focused and don't pay too much attention to the whiners. Setbacks do happen and reasonable people understand that.

On a side note, I find BFL comparison totally out of place. BFL endlessly lied to their customers and even stole from them by mining with the customers' equipment. I don't see anything like that happening here.

Also, do you have any plans for the future development? I'd be interested.

Cheers!

I've been pretty much keeping quiet on this GB, more of just standing by watching cry-babies bitch and make inappropriate comparisons (really, comparing to BFL, come the heck on...). Personally Barntech has kept is demeanor, provided updates when possible (for those of you wanting daily updates, I understand the want, but be honest, daily updates will accomplish nothing if there is no update to be had), and has been nothing but a all-around nice person to deal with.

Some people need to learn when to calm down and when to be aggressive. When you have someone doing everything within their power to produce the best quality item they can do for you, that's not when to jump down their throats and be and ass about things. As if they wanted to churn out products fast and didn't care about quality, I'm sure they could, which would cause more issues than just waiting another couple weeks.

Aside from Drillbit's web form (lol), I've had nothing but a good experience and await my boards.

Now with the proper fans installed:

Just some questions:

1) Why do you use other (separate) power supply for the USB-hub? Why you can not use the power from the main PS?

2) Can you tell how this aluminium profile is called? I want to try to find it locally (ordering over sea will make them made from silver Smiley )

Cheers.
