In response to below yes TEK is not perfect we are looking good at this time though with known issues addressed and fixed. There is a nice support team building up over last few weeks that is very active.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

TEX is crap, read my complaints in the TEK thread. The client source doesn't compile so you have to use a binary you don't have the source for. ZET is better than TEK but ZET was a massive insta-mine so it has no credibility, hence little price support. All the newer sha256 alt-coins are crap so far. I am still looking for one. Only TRC and PPC are viable atm. both have reasonably high difficultly compared to the other sha256 alts.

I'm kinda bs'ing with unObtainium coins. They have no trade value yet but it seemed new enough to put it on the side with low priority and see if anything kicks with it. I grump every time I see adult swim say someone had bitcoins at the beginning and hit big accidentally.

If you've got better post in the drillBit forums and we'll see if we can get a leg up on some new coin. I almost want batch 3 to have at least one chip to run litecoins ,just so I can scare someone with a 2Gig Hash chip.

Like the info address for potential tips Wink

Hey Spotwood.  I have one of your cases for my Bitfury.  Very well made.
I am trying to picture how my unit would fit on these though.  I have 8 boards.  So I have 2 mini planes and then a double scroll holding the two mini planes.  Are your cases built for that?

The basic design can be adapted to almost all of the custom ASIC boards.  I don't have a model of the double scroll, but here's a quick mockup of what a case for it might look like:

(Imagine the double scroll mounted to the two support beams.)

What is the layout of the mounting holes on the double scroll?

Hey all.

So a quick note on the cases. Firstly thanks Spotswood for your work. Looking really nice. There is one element of the design that is a little counter-intuitive, which is that the fins of the heatsinks go length ways down the boards. (we couldn't find sideways ones at short notice). This means that the best fan position is going to be directly on top of the miniplane stack facing down, or perhaps to keep it sideways, the miniplane would have to be standing up. To account for this, we have added holes to the miniplanes so air can pass through. (see photo of actual boards beneath). For the doublescroll, the fan position will be best at the end. Not to say that shooting a fan across won't still be effective, but shotting it along the fins of the heatsink is ideal. Now i know this is a bit weird, and apologies for that, but it was the best we could do with the heatsinks we got. It will still work.  Smiley

Spotwood, could you have a look at factoring this into your design. Cheers.

Nice! I think that looks better anyway, like having the fans as a lid of sorts, or at least a neater looking top surface. Also gives easier access to dust filters on the fans, should people decide to install their own. Smiley

Also,

I have an update from our manufacturers. There is going to be a delay of about 2-3 days on our boards. I am really sorry for this. It is very frustrating from my point of view as it is entirely out of my control.

There has been an issue with the Atmel processor chips which are the main brains of our boards. Apparently the United States has particularly tight regulations about parts which have encryption capabilities and makes you jump through many hoops to get them shipped. Digikey U.S. was the only company that had enough of these chips in stock for our production. I thought this had been dealt with long ago but just found out there were still issues. Basically the states don't want to be providing China with spy capabilities or something, which is of course ridiculous in this context but has meant that the processor chips for our boards have been held up delaying assembly. Rah!

Anyhow, things have been sorted now and the package is set to arrive tomorrow and which point the assembly will proceed. This means that we will be looking at getting finished boards back on Friday or Saturday. Flashing firmware and testing over the weekend and shipping on Monday.

It's truly very frustrating to bring you this news, but there is nothing i can do. I'll keep you all posted as we go. And thank you all for your patience on this final hurdle.

Cheers

Barntech

I am just glad that we will see the birth of a new product and another day or 2 sucks but it is what it is and it is. Nothing like the year or more all the BFL people had to wait.

It's not as long of a wait, but the end result is the same: Profitability is out the window. Any future hardware buy is risky, especially with the way difficulty has been exploding, but it's still extremely frustrating.

Did I help you out, or otherwise say something useful? A handful of satoshis are a great way to say thanks! - Address: 18JUKdmE1Satf8HJUU3pf7iu5ymQX8AzER

BTC 511mill diff in just 90 blocks time.

The Drillbit batch#1 group buy started when BTC difficulty was just 31million.

+1000 for Barntech being honest and upfront, I would rather have bad news delivered this way than be bulls*ited along. Any delay sucks but hey am still waiting on BFL and some avalon boards.

Funny how my hardware always arrives in reverse purchase order.  Roll Eyes
