UGH . I cry every time I see those cables. I've got a small handfull of them from old gps's. It would have been more funny to have a usb3 micro plug on the boards though.

Well to be honest i do like these simple cables and that connector they are more sturdy then all the other types i have besides the plain FAT usb 2 / 3 connectors

And gladly widely available the smaller types are fragile and do damage more easily

You can hook them up any many different ways, there is no standard. eg. 1 board, 4 boards, 8 boards, those 3 configurations will typically have different case requirements, and then of course you need to add a power supply, some people may use ATX supplies, some may not, that's what DIY is all about. I am not going to bother with a case until I have a board in my hand, probably make a simple frame out of 12mm x 12mm pine, it will take me half an hour to organize and cost virtually nothing.

Any update on delivery of chips?

I'm wondering the same thing. Here is my post from a few weeks back.

I sent an email to Megabigpower and they replied quite quickly actually (Yvonne Paull) and she said:
"We expect to begin shipping reels near the end of next week. You will receive an email when your order is ready to ship."

So, thanks for the quick reply Megabigower. I hope our reel is included in that. (The end of next week is around Oct 10/11th).

12volts would be better in every situation due to the current design of PS's (heavy on the 12v side, light and running another converter on the 5v side). So yes, 1 mid sized PS could power hundreds of watts with no problem. Check the thread I linked to above. That is where the PS discussion is.

Well these might be the best deal going for hardware delivered in November, at least under $1000. However, mining dashboard shows I'll never reach ROI on these, even with a conservative 60% monthly growth in the difficulty. Looks like 1.7btc is the break-even number for pricing on these... (?)

I was looking on ebay. It is amazing what Miners are selling for. For example, look at what you can buy a November delivery on a 500+ GHash/s Jupiter. ($5000 through KNC).
Now look on Ebay, I see them going for 7k. I really think some people can't or don't want to buy BTC and are willing to pay a premium.
Also, we were all taking a chance to profit on these, but I want to take part in Bitcoin. If miners stay unprofitable then I will take part in other ways, but
I am really looking forward to doing this regardless. Still a huge hobby for us that gives back some money. Indoor metal detecting anyone?

Let me help you with the typing,

The last 3 on ebay in the last 2 days (in hand) sold for: (There were more auctions with high buy it now prices that didn't sell.)

($8965 average)

So, 500 Ghash/s works out to an average of $17.93 per Ghash.
I got 4 boards or 1 miniplane. The latter should get me around 80Ghash/s at $1300 w/ shipping. (Not including taxes).
That is $16.25 per Ghash/s. Now it is going to come weeks later but for a smaller unit to compete in price with a larger one is pretty nice.

The point though, is judging by how much miners sell for on Ebay, if you chose, you could probably get back more than you paid. (at least for the next 2-3 weeks.)

Still, for us small guys, a hobby that might pay for itself (and judging by BTC's future, will return a profit, probably a large one. Not as much as buying BTC's now, but still, not bad...)
And to have helped out the Network and taken part in the greatest social experiment of all time (and one that might change the world), I'd say the value is...

Yes, a difficulty drop HAS happened before. Quite a big one too. Look at the chart history of difficulty.
