Exactly..................sheesh erk,there you go again earning your name  Roll Eyes

BFL=1 YEAR LATE!!!!!!!!

Avalon=3 months late

Drillbit=on time!!!!!!!!!!

 Cool   Grin   Cool   Grin

"On time" is a little bit charitable. The original shipping date was expected to be mid-October to early-November. We're now into mid-November and nothing has shipped yet. Given the updates, it's reasonable to expect things to ship soon, so we're far, far, far from a BFL or even Avalon situation, but we also aren't "on time" either.

Correct,BUT,even a few days late or a week for that matter,I would call "on time"  Wink

Considering they were designing it themselves from the ground up with a small team, I'd say they've done relatively well in terms of the overall time frame, along with a forgivable delay due to issues beyond their control.

Hey guys.

We have more delays. It breaks my heart to tell you this, and it just straight up breaks my heart that it's happening. Please know, I am just as excited about this project and eager to get these miners as you guys, and just as disappointed that they are not yet ready. The last weeks of delays have been absolutely killing me.

The story is this. A while back we made a decision to engage a third party to assist us with completing our production in China. The reason for making this decision is that they are on the ground in China, have direct contact with multiple factories and suppliers etc, and promised a really fast turn around on getting everything made. In theory, getting these guys to help was going to get everything done and shipped out faster. That was the idea. They seemed competent and professional through all our initial discussions. It felt like a good decision at the time. Unfortunately, this has totally back fired and instead become the cause of many delays.

Bit by bit it has become clear that this third party don't really know what they're doing. It frustrates the hell out of me. I really really wish i had not let crucial parts of this operation out of my hands as i believe we would certainly have shipped by now had we maintained control of the manufacture and done it here in Sydney. The wisdom of hindsight can be a real bitch sometimes.  Embarrassed I take full responsibility for taking the choice to work with these people. God i wish i hadn't. As i say, at the time it seemed like a good move. I am sorry for this. We have been seriously let down.

The cause for the latest delay is that we recently discovered that said third party had ordered largely substandard inappropriate substitute parts for our boards, not the ones we specified. We are lucky we found this out when we did. Going ahead with the manufacture with the wrong parts would have caused all sorts on unknown instabilities on the boards. People may well have received them sooner, but there would be a  large chance they would not work properly, not get decent hashrates, and perhaps not work at all, or break soon after being plugged in. Dealing with this problem after the boards had been made would have been a nightmare.

So, we have ordered all the parts again ourselves from trusted sources. They are now being sent to the manufacturers. They will arrive early next week. This is the absolute best we can do under the circumstances. Trust me, the delay is worth it for the peace of mind that the boards are made properly to the specs of the design and will work. The production will continue as soon as the parts arrive. All things being equal production will happen on Tues. Basically we are put out a week by this. I am so sorry this is happening. It absolutely kills me to still not have these miners done for you.

As for the BFL comparisons, i resent this. Please have some perspective here. I have not lied to you, i have not been rude or offensive to anyone, the delays have not been months and months with no explanation. We are a couple weeks late, and i am sorry for that, truly, but i have kept everyone informed along the way, and been fighting my hardest to keep things as on track as possible behind the scenes. You have no idea how many hours i've spent on skypes and calls trying to smooth everything out. I am here with you. I am here for you. Please note also, we are not a multi-million dollar company, we are 4 guys with an enthusiasm for Bitcoin who decided to get together and make this project happen. We don't have funding, offices, secretarys etc. This is DIY. I have been working more than full time for months now to make this project happen for all of us. I am not getting paid for this. I can guarantee you that whatever profit we might end up with at the end of this will come nowhere close to a wage for 4 months of full time work. Please have some perspective on this.

Of course it is only a few who talk like this, and honestly in general it has been a pleasure interacting with everyone in the group. In the world of notoriously spikey bitcoin people, you guys have been an absolute pleasure.... mostly.  Wink I have thoroughly appreciated everyone's input. There have been so many interesting discussions, ideas and concepts bounced around on this page. Thank you all.

We ARE almost there guys, though i can imagine its feeling like an eternity right now. Trust me, it is for me too.

Well, I have a nice Drillbit open case from Spotswood that's just waiting to get its boards  Cheesy

Nevermind the 80mm fans...those are just placeholders.  The real 120mm fans are on their way.
I already have a 24pin plugin/test adapter so no need for the use of a paper clip.
Also still waiting for another Rpi plate from Spotswood so I can mount the USB hub.

Hang in there Barntech... we (at least quite a few of us) believe in you and appreciate the hard work you and your team have put into this project.
If there were ever anyone who's the opposite of Josh, that's you.

Barntech - once again thanks for the honest, forthright explanation of the sh&tty news.
So that none of us get mixed up with the bungling Chinamen please let us know who they are (pm fine).
If the boards ship next week this will still be the fastest I have received a "from the ground up" GB miner.
But please, no more f*@kups if it can be helped.

Jedi - nice!  Can't wait for my Spotwood.  Can you give me a link to the fans you ordered?

I've just paid 3.243BTC for two drillbit 8 boards - wanting to make sure I dont miss out!

I had to guess the shipping price for within Australia - couldn't find it anywhere but I thought AUD$20 should cover it. Itching for confirmation that I have not missed out and there will be two boards in this batch for me!

I know I am a latecomer to the game but I can see Barntech is one of the most (if not THE most) open and receptive fabricators in the game and I have absolute faith that everyone will have their gear as soon as possible!

Couldn't find any info on heat sinks without reading 90+ pages of this thread (I've read up to pg36!) can anyone tell me who/where/what??

I went with red Coolermaster JetFlo 120's. I don't mind the noise so wanted something that had high cfm and could run forever.  The red LED's also will match the red Drillbit boards nicely.

You can get them from Amazon.com here: http://goo.gl/9Kto4p

May well be an incentive to shift manufacturing operations back to Sydney for a future round as part of quality control.

 Angry  Sad  Lips sealed

I suppose, in the end, it's a bit like backing a kickstarter. Delays ought to be expected. But every delay is still utterly infuriating. It doesn't matter who is at fault, and though the honesty and transparency about it are very nice, every delay after delay just makes me want to punch a baby.

I am glad we didn't end up with boards full of cut-rate parts that weren't what was specified in the design, however (welcome to the wonderful world of Chinese manufacturing, it seems). I just wish we didn't have to deal with additional delay to get the quality that was expected by everyone, including the designers, from day 1.

Did I help you out, or otherwise say something useful? A handful of satoshis are a great way to say thanks! - Address: 18JUKdmE1Satf8HJUU3pf7iu5ymQX8AzER

Barn,
I appreciate your being open about any issues.  It is good that this issue was detected before the boards were made, as defect rectification later would have been much more difficult. You have my support on this.  Probably need to put this episode into the 'lessons learnt' for any future batches.

what's so intriguing about it? you ever built boards? no? dealt with suppliers? probably no, but talk like this is some easy shit... barntech seems like a standup guy and so far dealing well despite the setbacks..

again, thumbs up! This is the way to handle such issues, communication and correcting errors when they are detected, instead of sweeping them under a mat.

I'm in another preorder fuck up, and of course there are delays as well, but these guys keep silent and give a fuck on the feelings of their customers. And I can tell you, this is the worst part for me, the ignorance of my supplier in which I trusted, not the delay.

I feel your pain, and think you've done absolutely the right thing, both in making sure the parts ship to spec, and clearly communicating the delay. The insight into the production process is one of the most intriguing parts of the scene, watching how the process changes and evolves for each gen iteration. Can you offer an insight into which part in question was affected, for those of us who are following development with curiosity?

Good luck getting them out.
