Announcement Thurs AUG 22nd 11:30 pm Sydney time.

I am going to be away this weekend so I won't be around to answer questions or process orders. Because we are getting to the end of the chips, we won't be accepting any orders during the time i'm away. I'll be back on monday and will kick everything again off from there. We may be looking at a new approach to distributing the final chips via auction. I have disabled the paypal buttons. Please don't send through any BTC over the next three days. Thanks guys. Have a great weekend.

A potentially ugly, but serious, question: Is this a fair assessment for mining for 2 fully assembled Drillbit boards?  http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/ae24d25426

I've put in the current PayPal cost, power use assuming 1W per chip, and middle shipping fee based on the range Barntech has been saying.  I left the difficulty, diff increase, pool fee, and BTC exchange rate as the default values.  Set misc cables to $0 on the assumption I can fit the boards inside my pre-existing cases with pre-existing power supplies.

I'm curious what scenarios others envision?  Are we all just assuming the exchange rate goes up to make any ROI here?  Or are people betting diff increase isn't accurate?   Or are we resigned to be hobbyists?

I think you overestimate difficulty increasing over each month. I guess it would be around 40%. With that assumption, drillbit is OK, even with reduced environment (rate, elec, power drawn,...).
I do this bet with 16 boards with "adverse" scenario: http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/b7500f7ada
Also the BTC rate is something quite volatile, and we don't know what it would be.

I agree with Todamont, delivery after november will jeopardize ROI. The time delivery is something very important for the viability of the project.

My rule of thumb : it would be profitable if (when receiving boards):
BTC_Rate / Diff_in_Million > 0.5
for example at least 75$ with diff=150M

Barntech, have you seen what Burnin Mining has said regarding overclocking Bitfury chips?
He said this:

Quote
BitFury, and i will again be trying to push these chips further then the competition.
Target is 5Ghash/s per chip or more.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179769.msg2981334#msg2981334

Is this even possible? I know you mentioned 2.7Ghash/s or so, but this is almost double that. You might want to send him an email and this might explain why the price of chips went up 270%...

(Not trying to create any friction btw, this is purely something that could benefit us all.)

Thanks,
IAS

Cool, thanks for finding this out! Almost missed it.
If Barntech can introduce the cooling system together, pbb is better to get that with the boards Smiley

From all that we've read, pushing the chips much past 2.7Ghs is chip melting territory. That said, our board design has plenty of power and overclocking ability, so once we get the boards back this week we will push it as hard as we can and see what is possible. You will get all the updates. We'll tell you what we think a reasonable stable hashrate is, and what it is possible to push it to. See how the testing goes next week.

No, I mean something else.
If i order 4 drillbit boards you will send me free 4 stack Miniplane. Is that correct point?

What does it mean this sentence:
"The 4 stack Miniplane comes free with any order or 2 or more assembled drillbit boards."

"The 4 stack Miniplane comes free with any order of 2 or more assembled drillbit boards." Thanks for pointing that out.

Yes.  Grin

AH yes to be totally clear, you get one miniplane if you order 2,3 or 4 boards. If you ordered 6, you would get two.

Cheers

I'm glad that you provide a mini-backplane for each 4 boards, this is inline with your initial idea of "stacking". But I have a question regarding power supply.
Is it possible to supply mini-backplane by other way than ATX connector? Initially you stated we could stack cards 4 by 4 and then using a Molex connector for each, we could supply multiple stacks.
We need to supply mini-backplane with a smaller connector than ATX, if not we would need a ATX power supply for each 4 PCB stack, and it would be a shame! I can see 3 pins connectors beside ATX cnx, but I'm not sure their purpose. Or can we connect any of the 4 PCB with a Molex and it would supply other 3 cards?

Ok, so i'm off for the weekend. Signing off now. Please don't try to place any orders or make any payments for the next couple days. I'll be back here on Monday afternoon / evening Sydney time. Next week should be exciting with the boards coming back and the chip order basically filled. There will be the possibility for a few more orders and then we are done. I'm looking into opening up a second reel buy, but it may prove simply not achievable in the new pricing structure from Bitfury. See how we go. Next week i'll have shipping details and begin chasing up payments for assembly that hasn't been payed for and shipping. We will also be getting heatsink and case options happening soon. And of course news on the prototype. Have a good weekend everyone.
