Heartbreaking to read, but I'm sure he isn't the only one. Storing coins and keeping them safe is hard work - there is always the worry of hackers or other scams out there.
I agree, but I would not store such a sum in one wallet. It was thoughtless. It is safe to use several storage places ...

It will be nice to have some link to read about this, but if it is true it is one of those mistakes that is going to haunt you for the rest of your life I have lost some money in the past,The point is that Bitcoins were worth nothing back then. And there was no way to predict they would become so valuable in future.

This is real.. Very many people leave even a small amount on their wallets, which are then burned down. And such cases like this, in general, are amazing. Why did you start doing something at all and forget about it. Very strange.

We couldn't do anything for that in order to get it back. For I know once it was lost it won't be back anymore for it was gone. What the guy should do now is trading and trading as long as he can to get back the 103 bitcoin. It takes more time to earn that kind of amount.

I think a lot of users are in this situation, where they either forgot the password or the wallet seed or simply do not know where they have taken the back up of the wallet. Sorry for these people, I condone them.

This guy has lost 103 bitcoins he mined back in 2011 and then lost his wallet dat file similar to what I have done but wow this guy must be gutted the amount of money he has lost compared to me

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

I think this is the cause for bitcoin insane high price, many peoples lost their btc and the circulating supply became very limited.
i wonder if you can access your wallet without the wallet key. Did you using private key back then ?

We can't do anything to get it back because you made a mistake and we can't blame other people for that mistaken but it is a lesson to learn for it so we need to be more careful especially in our private key. I know it is hard to accept it but you need to be strong so you will overcome this situation.

oh my god that's the saddest thing I have heard this week. If I had such an amount I would backup my private key 10 times. I wonder how he actually lost it, must be some very bad luck as I'm sure he had backup but then he lost it and never recovered it again. I do think that this happens and sometimes it happens for a reason God controls your life so if he did not lose the bitcoin maybe there will be something will happen to his life or bad happen but we really don't know. If I was the guy it would be really sad and disappointing but everything happens for a reason and what he can only do is to move on and keep earning with bitcoin

Yes this is true! I checked by myself.. You can check here: https://blockchain.info/address/166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL

Obviously this is very very sad situation.. 103 BTC makes $670.000 and it's a very large amount of money. I wouldn't be in his shoes. I could never sleep again if i was him...

That's one disadvantage of being your own bank. Once you lose the keys to your vault, nobody could find it for you. I guess even using BFA to get his private keys would take ages.

That is really something to be disappointed with,
It is a really huge amount of money specially now that the Bitcoin price is rising high he couldn't really do something about it.

people must be careful with their wallets especially if they have such big money. I don't think that this case is a single incident and many users lost their bitcoins so noone knows how many of them are available.

Exactly. Since you've had so much collected, why did not you check every now and then what's going on in your wallet? A strange situation. I wonder how much BTC lands in the basket for such situations.

This is a huge sum of money. Losing such a huge stack of money would hit me hard and almost anyone no matter how rich they are, but this clearly demonstrates the importance of securing our assets for the future. If any of them falls into wrong hands you are finished.

Previously who mined the bitcoin never thought it will reach to $20k and I think they consider bitcoin as very serious money and this makes them lose the day files because maybe he changed the laptop. There are many ways to consider about it, but really it is a very big loss to him.
